I picked up a vintage bottle of Facets a few months ago for just five bucks, and I absolutely loved the scent—it felt so familiar. Now I get why: I hadn’t smelled the original Dior Poison in years, and they are strikingly similar! They share the same notes, and since both are older fragrances, some ingredients have faded, but the common ones remain. Even though Facets is from 1988 and Poison from 1985, Avon probably commissioned this with the intention of mimicking Dior. The scent doesn’t last long, but it leaves behind that delicious touch of incense and sweet nard.
Sweet white florals, violets, a creamy resinous labdanum, and just a hint of incense. Soft, almost imperceptible moss and woods round out the base. What more could you ask for? Many compare it to Boucheron; to me, that one feels heavier, more serious, and has animalic musky notes. Facets is more relaxed, with that violet and nard blend that reminds me of Versace Blonde, though Blonde leans more toward Fracas later on. This Avon creation doesn’t lack elegance or opulence. It’s a cologne concentration, yet it performs like an Eau de Toilette. It’s not intrusive or sharp; it clings to the skin quickly and lingers, staying detectable for much longer. A delicious floral with interesting notes. Here in my country, Avon sells it as ‘Gem.’ I really wish that quality would return at this accessible price point. There’s no competition left to offer something good, beautiful, and cheap.
