Egoiste Platinum by Chanel is a woody musky floral fragrance for men. Launched in 1993, this composition was created by perfumer Jacques Polge. The top notes unfold with lavender, rosemary, neroli, and petit grain; the heart reveals geranium, statice, galbanum, and jasmine; while the base notes settle on oakmoss, vetiver, cedar, sandalwood, and amber.

What a beast of a fragrance! Fresh, versatile, and sensible, plus masculine. Smells like the best after-shave you could have. It has stood the test of time through the years. An elegant perfume with a green, metallic scent. Smells like an office boss. For me, it’s the perfect contender to CK’s Eternity; it should have been back in its day. Launched to keep up, and Chanel’s quality is even better.

Chanel’s Platinum Égoïste was the first Chanel perfume I tried, and I had mixed feelings: I liked it but didn’t feel the need to buy it, until I tested it a couple more times and felt it blended well with my skin. Many say it’s Chanel’s answer to American tastes that couldn’t handle the original Égoïste, and while it has nothing to do with the original, it’s a fougère that’s easier to wear. Chanel tells us that ‘an eloquent and brilliant man is worth his weight in platinum.’ It’s a fresh, herbaceous eau de toilette that doesn’t have anything to make it stand out among so many perfumes, but what it does have is that it’s a Chanel. To highlight, its notes of lavender, geranium, rosemary, and sclarea give you the sensation of walking in the countryside all alone, making it a very pleasant fragrance.

  • I never liked the original Egoïste since it hit the market. However, I absolutely love this EGOISTE PLATINUM creation; it feels like a work of art in perfumery.

  • The fragrance that sparked my love for the world of perfume. To me, it represents how a man should smell.

Among my favorites from Coco’s house are Pour Monsieur from ’55, Antaeus from ’81, and the Egoïste from ’90. It smells like a real man—nothing cheesy or like those fake ‘convex sex’ caramels. It’s addictive. Rejects imitations. Worth the price even if it’s expensive; it adds character to a guy.

  • Chanel’s Egoïste Platinum is my second disappointment from the house regarding longevity. I’m not sure if it’s a reformulation, but the scent fades after an hour on the strip; I haven’t tested it on skin, but it disappears quickly there too. That’s my personal take. The note that lasts the longest is wild sage sclarea blending with petit grain.

  • A luxury barbershop scent. Not overly vintage, it’s clean, masculine, and quite versatile depending on the weather (not its best in extreme heat, but it still works). It’s the perfect signature scent if you want to convey neatness, maturity, and savoir-faire, though it calls for a look that isn’t too casual or sporty. As for performance, I have a 2022 batch and I can still smell it all day at work, even when I get home. A true marvel from Chanel.

It gives me vibes very similar to Calvin Klein’s Eternity; I love it. It’s sober, professional, and ideal for anyone over 30.

  • A timeless masterpiece that has been with me for decades. People recognize me because I’ve worn nothing but this for years, even giving up other fragrances to stick with it. It’s super versatile and truly all-rounder. And despite what people say about clones or knock-offs… no! Chanel is Chanel, and Platinum is Platinum. For me, it’s the best from the house.

Platinum Egoiste, what a great perfume. Clean, versatile, charming. It’s perfect for a man’s daily routine who knows what he wants. It has exquisite geranium and neroli notes, plus a woody vetiver part that makes it even richer. Among designer perfumes, it’s one of my favorites, and I don’t think it will take long before I get a bottle. To be fair, the only downside is that it doesn’t last more than 6 hours on my skin.

This smells like a businessman; I only wear it for special occasions or when I need to dress up. I’m not sure if the scent has changed due to reformulations, but the longevity isn’t bad at all, lasting 6-7 hours with moderate projection. This is quality because Chanel never fails. Now the downside is the price; I bought the 50ml bottle for almost €70. I understand it’s an expensive brand, but one must consider it has been on the market for over 30 years. At that price, I’d buy a new release from this year that lasts longer and projects more, but that’s what marketing does. When I run out of this small bottle, I’ll definitely go for the 100ml version.

  • Which perfume would you choose if you had to reduce your entire collection to just one? Scent: Uniqueness ★★★★★, Longevity: ★★★★★, Sillage: ★★★★★, Versatility: ★★★★★, Packaging: ★★★★★, Compliments: ★★★★★, Value for money: ★★★★★, Formality: Business, Usage: All occasions, Age range: Adult men, Unisex level: Men, Ideal application: 3 sprays. In short: ‘Ode to eternity’. Ideal occasion: Anything you can imagine. Alternative: Sauvage EDT (old version). Blind buy? Yes, absolutely.

  • Gentil vagabond

A good perfume with a slightly green opening. The dry-down is similar to CK Eternity, but not identical. It won’t fail in summer; it’s a great scent. I recommend it, even though it’s hard to find.

  • I have a sample given to me when I bought a Bleu de Chanel. I was excited when they gifted it due to the positive reviews, but after trying it, I couldn’t handle it: too much sharp grassy note, very vintage, reminding me of herbal shops or old barbershops. It’s worth noting its longevity and projection for a ‘fresh’ but hard scent: 6 hours with good intensity and 8 hours already very close to the skin, considering I applied 3 sprays on one arm because I didn’t dare to wear it out. I wouldn’t tolerate it; definitely wouldn’t recommend it blindly if you’re not a huge fan of vintage fragrances.

  • I take off my hat to Bofifa’s review. This fragrance reminds me of posters in my room, Walkman cassettes, summer family trips, and the 90s. The blend is spectacular, with a taste and class beyond the norm. The mossy, wet opening is incredible; the subdued lavender doesn’t bother me, and those sharp metallic notes… it smells amazing. The green notes punctuate everything with a precise rhythm accompanying the potent geranium. It’s perfectly balanced. This fresh bitterness has overwhelming versatility: it’s not citrusy, not sweet, not aquatic. On my skin, with a generous spray, it’s a beast: considerable projection for the first couple of hours and solid presence for over six hours without needing to reapply. It’s not my usual style, but I perceive it as spectacular, so magnetic that I’m considering it without taboos. It’s a classic; it smells like immortality. Maybe those sharp, vampiric edges will lose touch with reality someday, but for now, it’s got decades of enjoyment left. Long live it.

  • One of my all-time favorites; every time I wear it, I’m transported back to the 90s. It’s fresh and incredibly elegant—a boss-level scent. Chanel knows what they’re doing, and every euro it costs is worth it.

  • These days, many brands, even niche ones, try to modernize the fougère, that quintessential masculine aroma—green, soapy, and lavender-forward. Chanel played this game over 30 years ago, leaving behind a scent that remains completely current. It keeps that barbershop vibe but elevates it to something more contemporary, refined, and classy. It still boasts outstanding longevity, lasting around 12 hours. Those who claim Chanel lacks quality either have a biased opinion or only know Allure Sport and Bleu.

  • Hocicosensible

If you pluck your eyebrows, greet friends with ‘What’s up, BRO?’, wear ripped jeans, or think reggaeton is the only music out there… stay away from this masterpiece. Don’t desecrate this fragrance. Simply put, it’s not for you. THIS IS FOR MEN. You should go with One Million, Invictus, or JPG.

  • The ultimate fresh gentleman, a timeless classic that never goes out of style. I dare say it’s one of Chanel’s best; I’ve had it for 10 years, and at 35, I still get compliments. To be honest, it’s for personal enjoyment. A great scent for all ages, just for connoisseurs.

  • I love this perfume; it’s elegant, fresh, and high quality. It’s true that the scent recalls the 90s; it’s a classic and subtle aroma that doesn’t seek attention but accompanies someone who smells good. That’s how it should be. Not recommended for young people who like TikTok perfumes.

  • It’s a fragrance that has all the class and freshness that a Chanel perfume of that caliber deserves, but I just can’t stand it. It causes me nausea; it’s very cloying, and the rosemary with lavender is way too much for me. I stick with its original version, Egoïste.

  • Then there are the kids and teenagers using SpiceBomb, One Million, and other ambroxan-chocolate candies… and then there are the gentlemen who use this perfume and play in the adult league.

  • It’s a fragrance that has been with me for many years; it never goes out of style. It’s very versatile, suitable for both day and night, indoor or outdoor spaces, and you can wear it in almost any season. Personally, I think it’s best used in spring or autumn. I don’t have a great nose, but the jasmine notes hit me hard. Overall, it smells very floral but fresh. To me, it seems like a very good balance between floral tones and a fresh touch without reaching citrus. You don’t stand out too much with this because the trail isn’t huge and it doesn’t last long on my skin type, but people who have been able to smell it have definitely given me compliments.

  • The moment I applied it, Eternity by Calvin Klein came to mind. Very similar, always speaking from memory. One could say Egoïste Platinum is the refined brother of Eternity; it feels higher quality and less harsh. In its dry down, it has a very rich creamy note that sets it apart from other fragrances. It’s true that it also gives it an air of the classic XS due to the herbal note, but I don’t see them as that similar. The performance is mild, saving for the opening which is noticeable. Still, I recommend trying it if you’re into herbal scents because it’s delicious. That said, the price is high for what it offers nowadays since it competes with many other similar-cut proposals.

  • Rich. Very fresh and even slightly citrusy to me, but at the same time elegant. I felt the longevity was great; it lasted me a long time. Another masterpiece from Chanel.

  • A wonderful fragrance, but with ridiculous performance. It doesn’t last more than an hour on skin, and let’s not even talk about the trail.

  • One of the best perfumes I know. Although its longevity is low to moderate, the scent is totally worth it. For those who think Egoïste Platinum is similar to Croxato Man, I’m sure COVID damaged their sense of smell; that Croxato thing doesn’t even come close to Egoïste Platinum, and of course, it doesn’t have an olfactory profile similar enough to say they resemble each other.

  • It’s a distinct fragrance. Wonderful. It’s true that it’s the typical scent that depends on skin pH, creating a different trail and aroma intensity. In my case, it’s one of the perfumes that has given me the most compliments since its launch. I’ve had it in my collection since the 90s. In summer, it’s a bomb in warm and humid places. The presence is incredible; it overshadows anyone nearby with authority. The blend of ingredients is simply perfect.

  • Nariz Feliz

A classic fragrance, mature, fresh, clean, and as elegant as it gets. One of the ones I enjoy using the most, day or night, straight out of the shower, truly pleasant. If you like fragrances from the eighties and nineties, buy it with confidence.

  • I have a 50ml bottle I bought last year, so it’s from a recent batch. It’s true that my skin is very grateful with almost all perfumes, except a few, and this one lasts and projects (from close to far, of course) for several hours, many; in that sense, I have no issues. What happens is that people around me who have smelled it say it smells clean but old-man-ish. If this doesn’t bother you and you don’t mind spending about 80€ (for 50ml), get it because it’s a real beast of a fragrance.

  • Cleanliness and elegance in a bottle. Versatile for everyday use. The performance seems sufficient, and although the trail isn’t huge, it’s typical of a perfume that doesn’t seek to be exaggerated but presents itself as it is: something fresh, soapy, and classy.

  • Willie Coyote

Distinguished without being pretentious. Exquisite, to feel good with yourself and spread that positive vibe the scent has.

  • The ultimate green. It comes out very clean and fresh, with lavender and citrus, giving way to a soft floral part. The drydown is a bit drier but keeps that soapy touch of moss. I notice it’s very fougère. It’s super fresh and appetizing in temperate or hot climates. Lately, I notice these classic green and fougère scents are preferred over those sweet trash of today. They have personality, and current perfumes, which are clones of clones and smell almost the same, can’t reach them. It’s a classic, one of Chanel’s best perfumes. Just wearing it makes you look elegant, even if you haven’t dressed up, but if you are already dressed, you’ll look like a true gentleman.

  • Emilio E.M.G.

Gentlemanliness in a bottle. Versatile for everything. More than 30 years later, this fougère remains a work of art that doesn’t overwhelm but everyone likes it. It doesn’t matter if you’re a weird guy; if you smile and wear Egoiste Platinum, they’ll love you.

  • Jorge Serna

EGOISTE PLATINUM: there are beautiful things, and then there is this perfume bomb. It’s hard for me to be objective because it’s so evocative and I enjoy it from start to finish. I see it as elegant, ethereal, and with the finesse that only Chanel could give before. I bought a vintage bottle from 2006, and comparing it to the current one, the essence stays intact, though the old one feels denser and richer. If you’re looking for something fresh and spicy, go for it. Not much more to add to this eternal Chanel jewel.

  • raulsilva_parf

I liked the regular Egoiste less, but this one is elegant and distinguished. This smells generic, which is unacceptable for a brand that usually leads in pricing. Maybe because it’s a mass copy, I associate it with supermarket knock-offs, and I’m surprised by its success. If you smell it at Mercadona with the Deliplus label, you’ll barely notice it.

  • Tordo Uruguayo

Far from being unpleasant, quite the opposite—it’s super fresh, herbal, and citrusy. I get that because of those characteristics it doesn’t last long, but for Chanel and knowing what their fragrances cost, lasting only a couple of hours is a real letdown.

  • Who says Blue Intense by L’Bel smells like that? I guess their parents are cousins to understand such a weird opinion… It’s a herbal, timeless, and distinguished fragrance, perfect for work or a social gathering. It’s not one of my favorites, but I don’t dislike wearing it; at least, you won’t go unnoticed.
