Even though it’s the freshest and least intense version, I still detect that woman’s lipstick note. I’m hoping the 2013 reformulation will surprise me and change this impression.
Even though it’s the freshest and least intense version, it still smelled like women’s lipstick. I hope the 2013 reformulation surprises me.
My love-hate story with Dior begins with Dior Homme Cologne 2007. In 2005, the original was an instant olfactory crush; it smelled futuristic, luxurious yet unpretentious, sober and cheerful. It was romantic with a naughty edge, a bottled masculinity that felt abstract. When this flanker launched in 2007, I expected it to be identical but lighter for the heat. It was: dry, powdery, with soft leather and spiced cacao. It works amazingly well in the heat, and while it’s less heavy, it allows for more skin blending. I even liked it more than the original. But in 2013 came the reformulation: it smelled like cleaning product, citrus, and astringent. I felt insulted, like they sold me deodorant. Although I eventually accepted it was due to low sales, I still hold a grudge over the mess of reformulations. Today, with my 2007 bottle almost empty, I consider it the greatest treasure in my collection. It’s art, 10/10.
My love-hate story with Dior: In 2005, DH gave me an instant olfactory crush—something fresh, futuristic, and undeniably classy without being pretentious. Luxurious yet effortless, perfect for young people, romantic with a touch of rebellion. In 2007, its cologne version exceeded my expectations: lighter, with a dry iris note, soft leather, and spiced cocoa, ideal for hot weather. I even liked it more than the original because it felt more natural and carefree, a romantic gem up close that blends beautifully with my skin. But the 2013 reformulation disappointed me: it smelled like citrus deodorant, nothing like the original magic, leaving me bitter and resentful toward the brand for messing with a classic. While the 2011 DH smells good, it feels more commercial and less artistic. Today, I cherish my 2007 bottle, my greatest treasure, as a reminder of that lost art, hoping one day I can enjoy it again. 10/10.
True to the Dior Homme line, iris stands out right from the start alongside bold notes like leather and cocoa. Although it’s a cologne, it’s quite dense and not exactly a summer scent, but for mild climates, it’s an absolute gem. It’s incredibly hard to find, which is a real shame.
Staying true to the Dior Homme line, the iris stands out from the start alongside characterful notes like leather and cacao. While the longevity is decent, it’s quite dense for a cologne—not too summery, but an absolute gem in mild climates. It’s incredibly hard to find, which is a shame.
