  • This is an intense masterpiece from Comme des Garçons, more oriental than chypre. The stars are cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg, which bring sweetness and character, softening with honey at the end. It has incredible sillage and longevity, perfect for cold weather and formal events, though if you overdo it, it can be intrusive. Once someone told me it smelled like an older, wealthy lady; I guess that’s due to its strong personality. In the end, like everything from CdG, it leaves no one indifferent, but in my opinion and nose, it’s excellent.

It has incredible sillage and longevity, ideal for cold weather and formal events, though it can be intrusive if overused. Once someone told me it smelled like a wealthy older woman, probably due to its character. • To me, this is a true oriental. Beyond the cinnamon, it smells of honey and a velvety rose blending with spices and incense. Unlike 2 Man, it’s not versatile and can be hard to wear. It’s another gem from CdG; even though it’s my predecessor, I do enjoy using it occasionally in small doses, just like I did with Egoiste. It’s a masterpiece that’s no longer made, but you have to use it sparingly and with caution.

  • This isn’t a chypre; it’s a spiced oriental at its peak. It’s pure fire, anguishing, and unsettling: cinnamon, cinnamon, and more cinnamon. Spicy like eating a Hot Tamales gum, with that powdery aftertaste of old-fashioned cinnamon buns. It smells like artificial Christmas cookies or a decorative holiday candle. I love that this strange fragrance for men and women slipped into a sober, minimalist bottle. A brilliant joke by Rei Kawakubo that broke clichés. It’s hard to wear, but I put it on occasionally just to suffer, for the pleasure of hating it, much like with Egoiste.
