Total disappointment. Based on the notes, I thought it would be unisex, but it leans heavily feminine. They don’t list flowers or roses, but I’m sure they’re there. It’s super long-lasting and heavy; I wore it at night and it bothered me until I fell asleep. If you like feminine scents, this is for you. I’m gifting it to my wife, and if she doesn’t like it, it’s going to the secondhand market.
At first, it smells like new car floor mats. There’s a touch of burnt match or a dying campfire. It’s mysterious and intoxicating; you can’t stop smelling it while you write. It reminds me of their sister scent, Blackpepper by Comme des Garçons, in that sinister, dark spot, though this one is calmer and easier to wear. Perfect for fall and winter. After a few hours, it starts to resemble M7 Oud Absolu.
Honestly, I love the main scent even after an hour, but then it loses all its essence. I bought it on a whim after testing it, but I expected more longevity from those main notes. Still, I think it’s a great perfume.
After a few hours, it loses its main notes and is left almost entirely with sandalwood and incense. I like it this way, with smoke and spices, but without the initial fruit and floral notes, I’m not convinced at all.
Honestly, I love the main aroma until about an hour in, when it completely fades away. I bought it on a whim after testing it, but I expected more longevity from those top notes. Still, I think it’s a great perfume overall.
As for me, since I usually look for unisex fragrances, this one doesn’t feel like it to me. It smells much more feminine than masculine.
For me, who likes unisex perfumes, this doesn’t feel unisex to me. It sounds more feminine than masculine.
Well, I just don’t like this Floriental at all. It doesn’t smell bad, but it’s such a timid scent… Nothing special, and all I notice is sandalwood and a bit of plum at the start. The dry-down is supposed to be labdanum, but honestly, it’s totally negligible. Plus, the projection and longevity on my skin are ridiculous, even though I applied quite a bit of it.
Mikael Angel: ever since Puig took over Comme des Garçons, it’s been one letdown after another. The house’s greatest perfumes all come from the pre-Puig era.
Honestly, this Floriental didn’t work for me. It’s not that it smells bad, but the scent is so timid that it doesn’t stand out. At first, you just detect sandalwood and a hint of plum, and although they say it dries down to labdanum, it’s barely noticeable. Plus, the projection and longevity are ridiculous, even though I applied a generous amount.
If you check my profile, you’ll see that Comme des Garçons is one of my favorite houses; I’ve tried several fragrances and some are among my favorites, but… Floriental just didn’t work for me. In my opinion, they’ve abandoned their edge and stopped being bold and innovative. This was basically a commercial idea, riding on the house’s reputation for quality. According to Christian Astuguevieille, they wanted to recreate the scent of a flower that doesn’t even exist, blending florals and orientals to give them new meaning. Sure, the concept of Floriental already existed, with dominant floral notes and a background of sweet, warm oriental essences. What they did was name something that isn’t actually a flower. The floral part was replaced by an intense fruity note—plum liqueur. Using fruit to evoke a non-existent flower seems like a clever trick, but here it failed, and the result is just a fruity scent (with the inevitable CDG sandalwood). Add sandalwood and incense, and you get a super-familiar essence from the house. Bottom line: a fiasco with a misleading name and a formula designed to sell.
