Comandante by Xerjoff

If it’s true that within Xerjoff this could be one of their least challenging fragrances, the house doesn’t show any weakness, and the profile remains top-notch. I, who love the sharp edge of Le Male, Reflection, Darley, The One Parfum, and Ambre des Abysses, couldn’t resist trying Comandante. My conclusion is that it sits a bit close to some of those, especially Darley, but its middle notes create distance, bringing out the florals and that sweet layer. To me, it’s a modern man, aged 25 to 35, dressed casually and driving a GLA.

It definitely doesn’t hook me. It smells good, but I just can’t see myself wearing it. It starts fruity, sweet, and very bright; if it stayed like that, I wouldn’t like it at all. As it dries down, it softens slightly with faint notes of tobacco, spices, and woods. Yes, there’s that soapy hint in the air. In short, it leaves me indifferent. In the end, it smells like fruity caramel or a gummy candy. It’s unisex, performs well, and although it loses a bit in extreme heat, it still works.

Today I see it with different eyes: it’s a perfect transition between commercial and niche, easy and multifunctional. The opening is fruity and bright, with a base of tobacco and woods that recalls the DNA of Halfeti, but cleaner and without the spices. Although its evolution is linear, it works great in any temperature. I underrated it, but it deserves more recognition. Remembering traditional perfumery isn’t a reason not to enjoy it. Imagine the style of a modern fragrance with the quality of ingredients from decades ago: this could be the result. A few minutes later, new leather and tobacco appear, creating an animalic nuance, all balanced until the dry-down at 3 hours brings vanilla and a soft touch of ambroxan. It lasted 9 hours on skin and over 24 on clothes. It’s unisex, more masculine but wouldn’t be out of place on a woman. It evokes a presentable, sober, and intellectual subject, someone capable of handling any situation. Comandante doesn’t disappoint; it’s my signature and one of my favorites from Xerjoff; the more I use it, the more I like it.

Scent: 9, Performance: 8, Projection: 7, Sillage: 7, Longevity: +8h. Blind buy rating: 7—if you buy it, you win. Complexity: 5, Versatility: 8. Without a doubt, a true all-rounder worthy of being the best signature scent. The only catch is affording a Xerjoff for frequent use. If you want to dive into niche, Comandante is a sure bet.

This fragrance hugs you. It’s not just any Xerjoff—it’s different, challenging, a bomb. It reminds me of a hug with freshly washed towels dried in the dryer: fluffy, soft, warm, and smelling of the best fabric softener. It’s one of the best floral compositions I’ve ever heard, as masculine as it is feminine. This isn’t for going to a club to show off against the usual One Million or Invictus; this is a completely different vibe. I love it.

As it dries, starting from the first minutes, a base of leather and vanilla emerges, and if you inhale deeply, you can distinguish a sweet tobacco note, with a barely perceptible woody base. It’s truly a great fragrance that walks the line between the familiar and the exclusive. To me, it sounds somewhere between Memo’s Luxor Oud and Parfums de Marly’s Pegasus. It’s a real standout: power, elegance, longevity, sillage, and a great scent make it an absolute gem. I see it for intermediate seasons and slightly fresh moments, but if you want to wear it, there are no problems. Completely unisex, for people 28 and up, suited for semi-formal and formal outfits. Scent: 8.5/10, Sillage: 9/10, Longevity: 8.5/10, Projection: 9/10. Highly recommended for lovers of warm, sweet, and spiced perfumes.
