Penhaligon's Castile is a citrus fragrance for men and women. Launched in 1998, this composition was created by perfumer Olivier Cresp. Upon release, it features orange blossom alongside petit grain; the heart reveals a harmony between orange blossom, bergamot, and rose; while the base settles on musk and woody notes.

  • I absolutely love this fragrance. Very pleasant citrus notes, white flowers like jasmine, a musky base, a barely perceptible touch of rose, and wood. It starts very citrusy and becomes soapy, approaching Acqua di Parma but with its own personality. It lasts about 6 hours: projecting to a meter for the first two hours, then staying close to the skin until the end. Maybe many people see the price as unjustified since it’s not a scent that will blow your head off; only if you appreciate this style will you understand its value. Testers can be found for around 60-70€, which is a fairer price.

  • I absolutely love this fragrance. Potent citrus notes, white flowers like jasmine, a musky base, a barely perceptible touch of rose, and wood. It starts very citrusy and evolves into something soapy. It approaches Acqua di Parma but with its own personality. Longevity: 6 hours. Projection: 1 meter for the first two hours; then, until the sixth hour, it stays closer to the skin. Maybe many people, upon trying it, consider the price unjustified since it’s not the type of perfume that will blow your head off. Only if you appreciate this style will you notice what you have in your hands. Testers can be found for around 60-70€, which I think is fair.

  • It seems like the younger sister of the classic Acqua di Parma cologne, but with lighter woody notes. On my skin, it lasts short and leaves almost no trail. For a perfume at this price, even though it’s an EDT, one expects better performance. That’s why I wouldn’t recommend it, even though I really like the aroma. The Acqua di Parma cologne costs the same, shares the same DNA, and performs much better.

Castile kicks off with a lot of neroli and jasmine, then gently transitions to a strong dose of wild petit grain that tames itself as it blends with delicate rose petals. It smells like cleanliness and tidiness; my mind associates it with Marseille soap. Ideal for spring and summer. Performance is good for its category. Recommended to try. Fully unisex.

Castile starts with an excess of neroli and orange blossom that slowly gives way to a high dose of wild petit grain, which gradually softens as it blends with delicate rose petals. It smells like cleanliness and tidiness; my mind directly associates it with Marseille soap. Perfect for spring and summer. Performance is good for this category. Recommended to try. Fully unisex.

  • Clean and soapy with rich aromatic quality. The name immediately evokes Castile soap, very similar to Marseille soap. The orange blossom (not neroli) takes the lead, paired with a rose that has a metallic touch and petit grain for a subtly rough green nuance. The musks seal that soapy vibe, elegant like a luxury English hotel from the 19th century. While it could be unisex, it works better on me as a man. Despite being a niche fragrance, the price is acceptable for the quality (150€/100ml). It won’t blow your mind, but if you love soapy, clean, and fresh scents, this is one of the best. Great refinement and quality that makes for an authentic treat on a spring or summer morning reading the paper on a café terrace. It doesn’t project much—it’s a personal bubble—but the longevity is more than acceptable, around 5 hours on me. I’d recommend spraying it on clothes too to extend the wear. If you can afford it, it’s totally worth it.
