Descripción
Acqua e Zucchero by Profumum Roma is a floral fruity fragrance for men and women. Launched in 2002, this composition evokes the freshness of a summer afternoon in Italy, where crystal-clear water meets the natural sweetness of sugar. Although the original description does not specify the top, heart, and base notes, the essence of the piece revolves around a sensory harmony that celebrates the simplicity and purity of natural ingredients, creating an enveloping and timeless atmosphere.

It starts with a strong hit of berries that gives way to vanilla and bergamot. In the middle, that mix of three creates a cotton candy sensation; in fact, when I recall the scent, cotton candy comes to mind. The dry down is almost pure vanilla. The longevity is very good and the projection doesn’t fail; I can smell it without issues for hours. I see it more for cool weather and perhaps for evening wear. Although a man could dare to wear it, I think it’s more focused on women, perhaps teenagers. The quality of the ingredients is noticeable, but there aren’t more than those three notes, few nuances. It’s a curious scent to try, but I wouldn’t buy it, and especially not for the price.
It starts strong with berries and then moves to vanilla and bergamot; in the middle it smells like cotton candy, just as I remember. When it dries down, almost only vanilla remains. It lasts a long time and projects for miles; I can smell it for hours without issue. It seems more for bold people, although I think it suits young women better. The ingredients are top-notch, but it only has those three notes with no further nuances. It’s curious, but I wouldn’t buy it, especially given the price.
I adore Profvmum Roma; I already have Confetto and Battito d’Ali and have been longing for Dulcis in Fundo for a while. Yesterday I tried Acqua e Zucchero at night, and although it was already being talked about on the English web… I was floored, it’s 95% Pink Sugar! I put it on each hand. Acqua e Zucchero doesn’t have that slightly ugly opening of Pink Sugar that smells like licorice. But aside from that minute and a half, they are taaaan similar that I don’t see why pay the €220 of Profvmum Roma when the Aquolina one is easily had for €10. As for longevity, like the rest of the line, over twelve hours, but Pink Sugar on me lasts 10 hours without problems, so that’s not a factor… Oh, for those who don’t know Pink Sugar: sugar, sugar, and more sugar, a touch of berries, and little else. Note, I love the scent, but only for wearing at home on those days I need a sugar rush. By the way, my partner, who recognizes no more than 5% of my perfumes, said yesterday when I wore it: Wow, how long has it been since you wore Pink Sugar! Sorry Profvmum, with this one, I’m not emptying my wallet.
I absolutely love the Profvmum Roma house. I already own Confetto and Battito d’Ali and have been eyeing Dulcis in Fundo for a few months. Yesterday I wore Acqua e Zucchero at night, and although I’d heard rumors on the English site… I was floored, this is 95% Pink Sugar! I tested one in each hand. Acqua e Zucchero doesn’t have that slightly unpleasant opening for my taste that Pink Sugar has, which I associate with licorice. But aside from that minute and a half, they are taaaan similar that nothing justifies paying the €220/100ml price of Profvmum Roma when the Aquolina one is easily found for €10/100ml. As for longevity, it’s in line with the house, over twelve hours, but Pink Sugar on me lasts easily 10 hours anyway, so that’s not a factor… Oh, for those who don’t know Pink Sugar: sugar, sugar, and more sugar, a hint of berries, and that’s about it. Note, I love the scent, but only for wearing at home on those days I need a sugar rush. By the way, my partner, who recognizes less than 5% of my perfume collection, said yesterday when I wore it: Wow, how long has it been since you wore Pink Sugar! Sorry Profvmum, with this one, I’m not emptying my wallet.
This perfume is Pink Sugar without the synthetic and licorice touch that Aquolina’s has. Acqua e Zucchero smells muuuuuuch better, it’s very feminine, and lasts and projects very well. If I had more money, I’d buy it because I love Pink Sugar but some of its notes don’t quite convince me, whereas in this Profumvm Roma one, they are perfectly blended and nothing clashes. I want it, but since it’s so similar to Pink Sugar, I probably won’t ever have it because it’s so expensive and Pink Sugar is only €10.
It’s an absolute injustice when I like a perfume so much that it’s so expensive. The world is so unfairly distributed. I won’t say what I think comparing it to Pink Sugar because I’d go to jail; I’ll just say Pink Sugar is also a favorite, but we compete in different categories. The subtlety and elegance of Acqua e Zucchero, plus its monumental performance, isn’t something you’ll find in a €20 bottle on a Primor shelf, no matter how hard we try. It might fix you up like methadone for a junkie, but Profumum Roma is a whole other level. I’d fill a pillar with this magical liquid and bathe in it every day. Plus, here at least they don’t call you an idiot when they charge you, unlike other trendy luxury houses that sell you 30ml of a Victoria’s Secret mist as if it were manna from heaven at a golden price, and then they get away with it.

Same thing happened to me as to others… it’s a scent I absolutely love. It projects incredibly; a lady walking by told me I smelled like sugar even though I only put one drop on my hand, which never happens to me where strangers comment on my perfume. Once I got home, I started thinking which perfume of mine was similar, and indeed, I have one called Soft by Al-Rehab (the only Arabic one I own), and I lost the urge to buy it because they are identical. I had one in each hand and they were practically the same, so I didn’t buy it; it broke my heart to spend €250 when I had one that smelled similar for €9… although I’d love to try niche perfumes again later.
I hesitated to leave a review because almost everyone has had a great experience with this scent; I even wondered if the travel size I bought was the original. After reading positive comments, I doubted myself, but then I found a review I agreed with and felt relieved: I wasn’t scammed, this perfume just isn’t for me. It smells like plastic, something synthetic, and conveys nothing. I tried it at different times of the day hoping my opinion would change, but nothing changed in two weeks. I’ll keep a little bit for another season to see if it mellows, but for now, I’m just glad I bought the travel size and not the full bottle. I get the feeling the perfume chooses you.
