  With Gucci’s new direction, Alexandra Monet launches a gem in The Alchemist Garden following Morillas. It’s a floral with chiaroscuro effects: a masterful blend of Sri Lankan black tea and Indian Sambac jasmine from the very start. The tea is relaxing, dark, and astringent; the jasmine shines without being indolic, accompanied by stems and leaves that give it a very interesting green, chlorophyll-like touch. It smells of soap, with a slight sweetness (perhaps undeclared vanilla) that sometimes gives a plastic or burnt rubber sensation, all over a high-quality white musk. If you like tea and white flowers, it’s an interesting option, though it moves away from Elizabeth Arden’s bright green tea or Nishane’s relaxed Wulong Chà floral. A distinct Gucci proposal where ingredient quality really shows, with moderate to discreet longevity as in the whole collection.
