Intense Oud by Gucci is an oriental fragrance for men and women. Launched in 2016, this olfactory composition was created by perfumer Aurélien Guichard. The top notes reveal incense, raspberry, saffron, and pear; the heart unfolds damask rose, musk, and orange blossom; while the base notes settle on oud wood, leather, patchouli, and ambergris.

  • Exceptional perfume: woody, resinous, just how I like it—powerful, smoky, and balsamic. I love it. At first, there’s a strong load of warm, resinous frankincense; it makes a bold opening but fades quickly to reveal a background oud that’s shy and mysterious, slightly sweet but balsamic, with an elegant spicy counterpoint. Initially, the incense accompanies the oud smokily before gradually becoming very resinous, a touch liturgical but not over the top. Alongside the amber that appears at the same time, they create a creamy, very woody aroma with warmth and sublime sweetness. Then, the scent settles on a background of fine, elegant leather that emerges subtly as the amber fades, creating the final piece: an incense-oud on leather. Spectacular. As expected, it’s superb in longevity and projection. Tested, it lasts 12 hours on skin, intense; I went to sleep and didn’t know how far it went, but when I showered in the morning, it seemed to reactivate for an instant, though it wasn’t noticeable anymore. The projection is strong and noticeable for at least 4 hours, then fades but remains moderate until the end. Intense, perfect for cold climates and nights. High cost, but not disproportionate compared to other luxury scents; if you can afford it, go for it—it’s a pleasure. The official Gucci website lists: Top Pear, Raspberry, and Saffron; Heart Rose and Orange Blossom; Base Oud and Patchouli. I don’t smell a single one of those, so I believe Fragrantica’s notes are the accurate ones.

Darkbeat’s review looks great, and I say that myself. I lean more towards the Gucci notes, though I suspect they’re keeping their industrial secrets close. This is my personal favorite fragrance; I’m lucky enough to own three bottles of this masterpiece. A star among stars! A gorgeous, almost celestial juice. I bought it right when it launched for under $100 on Notino while it was still available in the US. Now the price has skyrocketed or it’s out of stock. In my opinion, it’s the best designer perfume that beats any niche.

I have a feeling this fragrance is going straight into my collection the moment I try it. I haven’t even heard it yet, but reading up on it, it has everything I love. Just look at my current lineup; any bottle you see that people use or have tried would fit perfectly on my shelf. I’ve been on the verge of buying several Gucci perfumes before, and while I haven’t heard this one, it seems incredibly close to what I’ve read and seen in YouTube reviews and forum discussions about my current favorites (Bentley for Men Intense, The One by D&G, Dior Pour Homme Intense…). I think it’s similar but a touch sweeter, maybe also reminiscent of my limited edition Hugo Boss The Scent Perfume… that’s the vibe I’m getting. I think I’ll fall in love when I try it… high expectations… might be a bust, but I doubt it… I’ll let you know… already added to my wishlist

Just tried it blind and already grabbed the 90ml. Rubbed it on my hands a couple of times after testing Tom Ford’s Noir yesterday, and honestly, it’s a delight. Gucci’s Oud Intense has the softest leather opening I’ve ever loved. The leather lingers, but then lets the subtle incense shine through—it’s enchanting. Like with Tom Ford’s Noir yesterday, this is just my first impression, but I like it and have no regrets on the purchase 💪🏻🤗

Honestly, I think this fragrance deserves more credit than it gets from reviews because it’s simply spectacular. My only minor complaint is that the longevity might be a bit short on my skin in the summer, though that doesn’t mean it’s weak; in winter, it lasts 8–10 hours for sure. What a delicate and exquisite scent. Gucci nailed it. Even though I’ve started exploring the world of OUD, this isn’t an OUD discovery fragrance, but rather a showcase for its leather, incense, and the clear contribution of the OUD. A 10/10 for my first Gucci fragrance in my collection.

  • Jorgepucela

When Correos Express wants to… jeez, I ended up buying this and Tom Ford’s Noir in 50ml blind. I’ve been waiting all morning, more nervous than watching Pucela play in Sevilla yesterday, lol. I’m really going to fall in love with this perfume world; I’ll tell you all once they arrive. I have huge expectations for both, especially after dropping a fortune on them. By the way, my CH Kings by Carolina Herrera finally died today—officially joining the hall of fame of empty bottles 😏🥳

  • Honestly, for me, like almost all of the brand’s fragrances, this one feels quite weak. It’s a flat scent, lacking spark, boring, and worst of all, I can’t even say it smells good. It’s that typical overly plastic odor trying to represent oud wood, but it lacks the nuances and twists needed to make it interesting. It’s excessively dark and linear, consisting entirely of dry, dark notes like the oud wood, incense, leather, etc. It all feels like it has quite low quality. The performance isn’t anything special. Longevity is moderate (depending on how much you apply and if you wear it on clothes, since it lasts longer there), with a very weak sillage. If you like this type of very flat and dry scent, you might enjoy it, but there are much more interesting deals available, like CdG Wonderoud (which isn’t my favorite either) and fragrances of similar quality at 1/5th the price, such as Zara’s Exclusive Oud. And that’s without even going to brands that really know how to work oriental notes like Frankincense, etc., like Amouage, although their prices are indeed disproportionate.

  • Drakecito, I bought it blindly a month and a half ago and I disagree with everything you say, but well, that’s why there’s such a wide range of perfumes to choose what you like. I loved it and I’ll surely repeat it some day… totally happy with its performance in longevity and projection. What I like most is the delicacy it projects when you smell it; it seems like such a fragile object that could break at any moment. I discovered what aoud was in this fragrance, although it’s barely noticeable at first… this is the only Gucci perfume I’ve used, and the only thing I’d ask is for the 90ml bottle to go up to 100 or 120ml… In terms of price, it cost me close to 80€ without reaching that. I give it a high grade to this fragrant finesse.

  • Of course, Jorge. The truth is, I don’t get along with these Westernized ouds, nor with ouds in general. Not even with the legendary Montale Black Aoud, which has a legion of fans. Nor with the legendary YSL M7. Whatever… P.S.: Mine was also a blind buy.

  • Don Benjuí

The opening is pure incense. I’d add that afterwards, the rose is clearly perceptible—a deep, dark rose that gives it a slight powdery touch. I love this perfume; it lasts forever on skin; after 12 hours and a shower, it’s still noticeable right up against the skin. It feels like high quality, niche quality. Longevity 9.5, Projection 9.0, Value 9.0, Scent 9.0.

  • Perfumecrazy

Exceptional designer perfume bordering on niche. I don’t own it, but as soon as the situation normalizes, I’ll buy it since I tested it a week before the lockdown and got hooked on the scent and longevity.

  • My first impression is recognizing Gucci’s good work with the oud. Unlike other fragrances where the oud is heavy, here it’s balanced and sweetened by incense and frankincense, resulting in a dark, smoky, sweet, elegant, versatile scent that is very Western-friendly and easy to wear. It has a dark soul to shine at night, preferably in open spaces, but it’s not a bad option for a fresh or rainy day either. Sillage is acceptable; longevity needs checking. Very happy with the purchase.

Very happy with the purchase.

I’m glad I finally found a Gucci proposal with noticeable performance; I was almost losing hope. Gucci Intense Oud is unisex and leaves a trail of lovely sensations on the skin. Its main feature is the skillful use of oriental notes, blended in a modern way. It evokes sensations from mysterious countries like China, but also Egypt and lost perfumes from the past—intoxicating and attractive. Several elements define it: incense, cedar, and amber mix with a delicate oud, an essence that, when done right, is irresistible and hard to forget. Oud Intense is intense, but not in the oud. Rather, it’s fresh, spicy, woody, with spices in the background that take prominence over time. It also has a slightly fruity touch, not very strong. The oud is perceptible but wonderfully soft, smoothed over by sharp incense, patchouli, amber, and musk. It’s very restrained. At some point, I noticed similarities with Black Afgano; it could be seen as a nod to Gualtieri, but it’s more reserved and docile, not a twin, but a calmer type. I haven’t been interested in Gucci proposals for years, so I’m very surprised today with this Oud Intense (from the Sejano 77 collection) that accompanies me for about 7-8 hours with good presence and deep elegance, making me think about a future purchase.

  • EliteforEver

There’s nothing more to say about this beauty; it’s a true MASTERPIECE. A solid 10/10 in every attribute.

  • CardaGiorgio

Gucci Intense Oud is one of those rare finds in the general market regarding quality and concept. It’s a dark fragrance from start to finish, opening with wet incense and a background of oud and leather that feels medicinal and rough. Hints of saffron and a very subtle raspberry (like Tuscan Leather) add depth. The wet incense reminds me of Tauer’s Incense Extrême. Despite the references, it’s not an incense-focused perfume. Over time, the oud and leather take center stage alongside an incense that feels more like moisture than actual incense scent. The saffron and raspberry nuances remain noticeable as it dries. The evolution isn’t huge, but it’s noticeable. Performance on my skin is fantastic, hitting around ten hours with good projection for the first four. Gucci Intense Oud is dark, high-quality, and performs well. Undoubtedly one of Gucci’s most interesting proposals.

  • Batch 0295 Oct 2020. My nose just doesn’t pick up any oud, incense, or woods; what I caught was a start of cardamom, laurel, and black pepper with almost no evolution as it dried. Based on comments here, I think they’ve already reformulated it—it has nothing to do with what people say about it or its ridiculous longevity. I bought it on sale at Notino for 70 euros, which is way off from prices on other sites. These Notino deals are starting to smell fishy to me, very fishy. Watch out for this data point.

  • An absolute blast of a scent, way beyond the cheap tricks we smell these days. It’s a serene, confident man with personality. It’s a very European-style oud, reminiscent of Tuscan Leather thanks to those noticeable red berries.

The description of Darkbeat is spot on; I wouldn’t add a single word to the second paragraph. To me, it feels quite soft, with decent longevity and a moderate sillage. Sometimes it’s a bit subtle and hard to catch, but the other day, as soon as I walked into my parents’ house, they told me I smelled like flowers, even though I thought it had already faded. They said it smelled clean, like a freshly shaven man. That made me think and reminded me slightly of an old shaving foam from the 80s or 90s that my dad used, though I don’t know which one. After reading that it’s unisex, I was surprised because at first sniff, it felt masculine to me, but the dry down is definitely unisex. I expected it to be harder to wear, but it’s actually very flexible and elegant without forcing you to wear a suit. It’s mysterious, and I’d wear it in any season if it’s not too hot. I feel like it shines more on cloudy and rainy days, perhaps due to the smoky notes evoking a fireplace. There’s something about it that makes it increasingly addictive. I recommend trying it out, as I did, if you’re looking to get into oud or similar notes. As a lover of incense, I have little else to add—I absolutely love it, even though I expected more punch. I think it’s being discontinued since I can’t find it on the Gucci website anymore, and it’s out of stock on Amazon.

The description of Darkbeat is spot on; I couldn’t add anything. To me, it seems quite soft. Longevity is decent and the sillage is moderate; sometimes I have trouble smelling it and it fatigues me a bit. However, when I went to my parents’ house, I received compliments. It smelled clean, like a freshly shaven man, reminiscent of some old shaving foam from the 80s-90s my dad used. At first, I thought it was masculine due to the opening, but the drydown makes it unisex. I expected something more challenging, but it’s very flexible, elegant, and doesn’t force you to wear a suit. It’s mysterious; I wear it in any season as long as it’s not hot. It shines more on cloudy and rainy days, perhaps due to the fireplace notes. It’s addictive. I recommend trying it if you’re new to oud or similar notes. As an incense lover, I adore it, though I expected it to be more potent. I think it’s discontinued since I can’t find it at Gucci anymore and it’s out of stock on Amazon.

  • I haven’t had luck with these new Badges. I bought one a few months ago and sold it to a colleague. I gave it another shot after reading that longevity depends on the batch. Total disappointment. The scent is 10/10, but longevity is terrible: 8 sprays give maybe 4 hours on skin if you’re lucky, and the projection lasts only 30 minutes. Rating: 3/10. As of 09/07/2023, after six months of maceration, the change is astronomical. This has happened with a few perfumes, but the evolution is insane. It lasts about 11 hours on skin and projects a bubble 50cm away for 6-7 hours. I was blown away and regret my initial low score. Thanks to the maceration. It’s a masterpiece, but a crime against this perfume. Maybe it’s just olfactory fatigue.

  • Sweetalmond

Wow! This perfume drives me crazy. It smells phenomenal on my skin and blends well, but the longevity is an issue. What’s going on with Gucci? It’s a fantastic fragrance. Most of them don’t last like they used to, and I’m disappointed they seem to prefer cheaper ingredients now.

  • This is my first review and I’m not an expert, but I’m absolutely fascinated by perfumes. This one is an absolute beauty. It’s an accessible oud with massive longevity and sillage. On skin, it lasts forever and even survives a shower; on clothes, it’s eternal. It’s a sublime fragrance that empowers you and makes you feel amazing. After thinking nothing from Gucci interested me following Joyas, Rush, Pour Homme, and Guilty, I discovered this and my faith is restored. Don’t miss out.

  • Alanirde11

I’m not a huge Gucci perfume fan; their scents are usually nice, but the longevity is often terrible. However, this Intense Oud, which I found at Notino, is a total winner. I bought it blind without any hesitation: it’s a very well-behaved oud with incredible quality and lasting power. For me, it’s definitely niche-level quality, best worn in winter with elegant attire. If I were to test it blind, I’d swear it’s a Tom Ford—it has that exact vibe. One of my best purchases of 2023.

  • Designer niche. At one time it sold for a decent price, between 55 and 70 euros. Today, if you find it online (generally discontinued in department stores in Spain), the 90ml bottle won’t drop below 90-95 euros, watch out for deals. It’s synthetic oud mixed with floral and incense notes, a nighttime, elegant, and usable fragrance for women after drying down about 30 minutes. Mature and elegant aroma. Ideal for autumn and winter. It used to last 8-9 hours; recent reformulations say longevity has decreased a bit. I have a 2019 batch that lasts quite a while. If you like domesticated ouds and don’t trust cheap Arab scents, and you don’t have Tom Ford or Versace Oud Noir or YSL M7, keep an eye on this. You’ll like it, and maybe your girlfriend will too.

  • Barras_fragancias

The Batman perfume, super elegant, familiar, and very different. It brings back memories of Montblanc Meisterstück, Mancera Silver Blue, and Loewe 7. For me, it’s not as heavy as they say, maybe because I’m used to sweet bombs like Arabian Tonka or Layton. I feel it’s versatile if worn at night in special settings. It smells like raspberry at first and keeps that raspberry note all day, almost like Halls raspberry candy, with a faint pear sweetness. I sense a menthol tobacco note mixed with sweet leather, like shaving cream or menthol cigarettes. There’s a semi-medical oud and potent smoky incense, with amber taking the lead. It evokes coffee or burnt caramel. Longevity is questionable due to olfactory fatigue after 20 minutes, but I was told it smells great after 6 hours with good projection. It evokes comfort and good memories; maybe some say it smells like a grandpa, but in a good way. 100% masculine to me. The bottle feels luxurious. Great purchase.

  • Wood, incense, and leather with a sweet undertone and patchouli. It’s a less dense Black Afgano, from the underworld but brighter. I like it from start to finish, but it doesn’t last well; poor performance. What a pity. I prefer Black Afgano; it captivated me more. This fragrance is more wearable but not easy; you have to like that dark side. Nighttime, for cold days, and not very versatile. Pity about the performance, but still recommended.

  • Fragransimov

I tested it for several days and thought it was an excellent scent. It’s a wearable, well-executed oud, among the best in designer fragrances. I find it more wearable on a man, but it depends on personal taste. I don’t know what’s going on in the designer world; masterpieces lose their charm without decent performance. This is the case: after two hours, it’s gone, lingering only on clothes. If it had better longevity, it would be ideal for cool climates and evening occasions. Don’t buy blind. Cheers.

  • Click ‘Perfume for Men and Women’ WTF? This is a wild masculinity bomb, screaming musk, sweat, and testosterone. It smells heavy up close, almost repulsive and animalistic, but the trail is pleasant. Only for cold climates, not versatile at all, not for daily wear. Reminds me of the smell of sweat on dark skin on the subway without deodorant. A complicated fragrance.
