I love it! It’s a fresh, super-wearable oud, perfect for spring or summer nights. It’s not a beast in terms of longevity or projection like other Montales.

One of those ‘ugly ducklings’ in the oud world: undeniable quality but lacking the attention it deserves. It opens with an almost medicinal touch that reminds me of when I used tea tree oil on my daughters. Montale seems to want to move away from the conventional. Wild Aoud is wild and untamed, not seeking mass approval. The drydown is long; after a few hours, the tea tree fades and a beautiful woody accord emerges with cedar, amber, and earthy notes. It reminds me of Wood on Fire: raw, bare wood, slightly burnt, with the same DNA, almost like sisters. Performance is medium-longevity, typical of Montale. It’s clearly a masculine scent, dense and warm, perfect for fall and winter. It’s not for everyone or those seeking softness; it’s for those who value the authentic and the raw. Personally, not used to such potency, I sometimes feel it lacks something to balance it. I’ve tried mixing it with a grapefruit (Sunrise Paradise by Adopt) and the result is harmonious: the citrus adds brightness that counteracts the density, creating a captivating citrus-woody duo that lightens its weight. This way, I’ve managed to get close to the beast without it devouring me.

Very Montale style. It doesn’t leave you indifferent. Fresh notes dominate over the underlying woody tones. Upon application, it reminds me of gas station smells… rich, though the name doesn’t quite fit. And I get the impression it might be discontinued.

Very Montale: it doesn’t leave you indifferent. Fresh notes prevail over the underlying woody tones. When you wear it, it reminds you of gas station aromas… rich, though the name isn’t appropriate. And I get the impression it’s already discontinued.

Incredible yet true: this Montale had not a single review and it’s no surprise. I checked blogs and forums and almost no one mentions it, and honestly, you lose nothing by ignoring it. It’s not a fragrance an amateur or an expert should feel obligated to wear. The issue is its ambiguity. Wild Aoud smells like generic, rugged wood (very masculine) without conveying anything, as if it were unfinished. It smells good but doesn’t transcend; it lacks a unique aroma or a standout evolution, and the oud feels very diffuse. More than ‘Wild’, it’s ‘Flat’. What I feel most is sage, patchouli, and tobacco. In conclusion, it left me quite indifferent. And to be very frank, the only one from this house worth it is Black Aoud, a niche and oud icon. The others I find vulgar. Longevity is scarce for a house where fixation should be notable. It’s my opinion, but it doesn’t take away interest for those who want to try it.
