Another good Armaf fragrance. They say it’s similar to Kilian’s Rose Oud, but I don’t know that one to comment. What I do know is that it doesn’t smell anything like Joop! Homme as stated here. The opening is potent and spicy; although it has citrus, it doesn’t come out fresh, but rather dense and striking, wrapped in many spices. The rose is noticeable but not overpowering, well-blended with citrus and geranium. The citrus fade disappears quickly, but the floral notes continue to mix with spices and smoky trails, reminding me of dirty leather from an old wallet with very subtle floral notes. The dry down is nice: spicy and sweet woods, somewhat dry with that medicinal oud trail. I’m not an expert, but it’s similar to two perfumes I own: it’s very close to Kolmaz’s Arabi Cana but lighter and without the leather note, and also like Wajid Farah’s Enigma but with less power and fewer fruity notes, like an amalgamation of both. Longevity and trail are very good, surpassing 8 hours with a good trail for the first two hours before you have to get close to smell it. I wear it at night and in cold seasons, though it wouldn’t be out of place on cool spring or summer nights. Quality fragrance at a competitive price, who wouldn’t take the risk to try it?
Another gem from Armaf. Forget any comparison to Joop! Homme; they have nothing to do with each other. The opening is powerful and spicy; while there are citrus notes, it doesn’t feel fresh, but rather dense and striking, wrapped in spices and a well-blended rose with geranium. The citrus fades quickly, but the floral and smoky spice notes linger, evoking that dirty leather smell of an old wallet (though it’s not listed in the pyramid). The drydown is beautiful: sweet, dry woods with that medicinal hint of oud. I’m not an expert, but it reminds me of a lighter Arabi Cana by Kolmaz and an Enigma by Wajid Farah without the heavy punch. It’s a perfect blend of both. Longevity and sillage are top-notch, lasting over 8 hours with great projection for the first two. Ideal for night and cold weather, though it works in fresh springs too. Unbeatable quality and price, who wouldn’t take the risk?
This fragrance is magical! I’m new to this and don’t know much about how to describe it. I bought it blindly, and when I opened the first bottle, I was disappointed because it smelled like mosquito repellent or insecticide and faded quickly; I thought I’d been scammed. Then I sprayed more, about 6 sprays total, and I smelled that repellent scent again, but sweeter. Over time, I noticed the rose aroma, and from then on, it was exquisite—a sweet, attractive scent that made me keep smelling my hand. I felt wrapped in a bubble of woods and roses. The longevity is long, over 8 hours, and the trail is heavy. I didn’t get many compliments; it’s for oneself, not to please others. It caused an addiction because I always want to smell it. If I wear another perfume and notice a similar note, I want to go back to Shadeswood. I wouldn’t say it’s a safe blind buy because it smells strong, but if you already know the scent of rose and wood, buy it… it will hypnotize you.
The opening is intense, so don’t get too close at first. After about 10 minutes, a very masculine rose emerges alongside the oud, and it’s simply exquisite. An elegant fragrance for men, ideally for those over 30. The trail and longevity are quite strong, but as they say, don’t buy it blindly.
The opening is strong; don’t sniff it too close at first. After 10 minutes, a very masculine rose appears alongside the oud, creating a simply exquisite perfume. It’s elegant for men, ideally over 30 years old. The sillage and longevity are quite strong, but as they say, don’t buy it blindly.
I truly love it. It smells weird but it’s addictive. I thought it would be a typical rose-oud combo, but the geranium gives it an acidic and novel touch. It’s the most masculine rose I’ve tried, intoxicating and seductive. It transports me to a cool night in a damp garden full of freshly watered red flowers and trees with wet bark. The citrus opening is effervescent and fleeting, followed by the spicy notes in perfect harmony with the rose, oud, and geranium at the half-hour mark. It doesn’t last long on my skin, about 4 hours, but projects a lot until it suddenly disappears. Maybe it’s olfactory fatigue. I recommend buying it, but not blindly; if you know rose-oud and dare to try something different, go for it.
What a delight this fragrance is! I received it as a gift and can’t stop using it. The oud and rose are very noticeable, with the clove coming through strongly at first. The first time I was surprised by the intensity, but after half an hour it settles down and you start enjoying the nuances, which are explained very well on Fragrantica. It’s not for everyone, so be careful: don’t overapply because it smells strong.
This fragrance is a delight! I received it as a gift and can’t stop using it. The nuances of oud and rosewood are very clear. The clove note comes off with great intensity upon application. The first time I was surprised by the intensity, but after half an hour it calms down, and you can enjoy the nuances, which Fragrantica describes very well. It’s not for everyone, and watch out, don’t overdo the sprays because it has quite a bit of power.
I bought it blind based on the reviews; I already owned Club de Nuit Intense, Tres Nuit, and Italiano Uomo by Armaf and loved them all. But this is a very heavy scent. It reminds me of an old lady with talcum-powdered rose upon application. Definitely not for me, even though I like strong perfumes; in fact, I feel like it makes me dizzy. Too heavy for my taste.
I bought it blind based on reviews, since I’m new to this and I used to love other Armaf scents like Club de Nuit Intense, Tres Nuit, and Italiano Uomo. But this scent is very heavy; it reminds me of that old lady with powder-puff roses who smells bad when she applies them. Definitely not for me, and even though I like strong perfumes, this one made me dizzy. Way too heavy for my taste!
Blessings, fragrance community! I thought about not reviewing Shades Wood because Darkbeat already said it all, but I decided to give it a shot. Armaf usually delivers personality-driven proposals: Club de Nuit Intense Man, Black Onyx, Legesi Homme, and Shades Wood. The last two are my favorites, probably because I’m 50 and love retro, uncommon scents. Forget that it smells like Joop! Homme; with all due respect, Joop! is outdated. Joop! is for dancing, Shades Wood is for an 80s orchestra. It starts with spices and citrus, the rose softens the pepper in the heart, and the dry down is pleasant with leather, cedar, and a touch of sandalwood. With 6 sprays, it projects well for 3 hours before settling on the skin with perceptible bursts until the 8-hour mark. Ideal for cold, rainy afternoons or nights. Recommended for men aged 35 to 100; those under 35 should test it on skin first. I don’t get compliments, but plenty of praise on how it smells. I imagine Al Pacino as Michael Corleone surrounded by old mob bosses listening to ‘Maestra Vida’ by Rubén Blades and drinking Johnny Walker Black. It’s a safe buy that will have its moment. Longevity: 8.5, Sillage: 8.5, Versatility: 6, Compliments: 5, Packaging: 7, Bottle: 8, Price: 10. Thanks, Darkbeat, for encouraging me. Greetings from Panama.
Hi, blessings to the community! I thought I wouldn’t review Shades Wood since Darkbeat already described it 90%, but he encouraged me. Armaf always offers something interesting: Club de Nuit, Black Onyx, Legesi, and now Shades Wood. The last two are my favorites, maybe because of my age (50) and my taste for retro and uncommon scents. Whoever said it smells like Joop! Homme probably has olfactory fatigue; I used Joop years ago, and there’s no similarity. With Joop, you’re dancing; with Shades Wood, you’d be out of context unless you’re in an 80s orchestra. The opening is dominated by spices over citrus; the rose makes the pepper bearable in the heart. The drydown is pleasant, with leather, cedar, and a touch of sandalwood. With 6 sprays, it projects for 3 hours, then settles on the skin but remains perceptible in bursts until 8 hours. Perfect for cold, rainy afternoons or night. Recommended for men aged 35 to 100; those under 35 should test it on skin first. It doesn’t get me many compliments, but it earns praise for how it smells. Imagine Al Pacino as Michael Corleone, surrounded by old capos listening to ‘Maestra Vida’ and drinking Johnny Walker Black. Safe buy with the right moment. Longevity 8.5, Sillage 8.5, Versatility 6, Compliments 5, Packaging 7, Bottle 8, Price 10. Thanks Darkbeat for the encouragement. Greetings from Panama, blessings.
Patch test 15 minutes in: it’s not the typical Cristal Oud or O Exciting rose-oud. My nose betrayed me, and I thought of my Fahrenheit decant; I tested it on the other wrist, and the resemblance was surreal. Olfactory illusion? Maybe, it’s very subjective. They don’t share notes except cedar, and the florals are different, but in Shades Wood, I detect leather—maybe that mix triggered my memory of Fahrenheit. My review isn’t technical: these are two perfumes on different paths. Just wanted to share a surprise; we’ll see how it dries down and lasts, maybe I’ll come back with something more objective. Fragrant greetings.
I’ve been wearing it for months, and it’s a tough one: a mature, almost decaying rose that’s very present, paired with a strong oud that makes me hesitate to wear it often. But like any good exotic dish, you just have to keep eating it until you accept it as it should be.
Shades Wood by Armaf is an adult yet contemporary fragrance, not for the 20s or the elderly. It has an old-school DNA but feels modern, very masculine and refined. Perfect for evening events: dinners, classy bar dates, or formal gatherings. It exudes an authentically opulent style. It’s a captivating jewel, my favorite among vintage scents. It’s not linear; it starts with an alcoholic note, but then the rose settles in strong, followed by the oud, adding exotic richness. Exceptional performance: 3 hours of projection and 8 to 10 hours of longevity on skin and clothes. Recommended.
Shades Wood is an adult yet contemporary fragrance. It’s not for the 20-year-olds, nor does it smell old; it carries an ancient DNA but feels modern, extremely masculine and refined. Perfect for night: restaurants, dates at classy bars, or formal gatherings. It exudes an authentically opulent style. It’s a captivating gem, ideal if you’re not a fan of vintage scents. It’s not linear: the opening is a bit alcoholic, but then the rose settles in strongly, and the oud appears, giving it a rich and abundant aromatic eccentricity. Exceptional performance. Scent rating: 9.0, Projection up to 3 hours, Longevity 8 to 10 hours on skin and clothes. Recommended.
I don’t know why no one mentions it, but this is a super clone of Tom Ford Oud Wood; they smell exactly the same. If you want to smell rich and exotic, try it.
This perfume surprised me quite a bit; I imagined something more challenging due to the cumin and oud notes, but I was pleasantly surprised: I barely smell the cumin. The opening is citrusy, and after a few minutes, an exquisite rose starts to emerge, one of the best I’ve tried, mixed with oud and those citrus notes that, although less prominent, are always noticeable hours later and are quite present. Elegant perfume, very well-crafted, with great longevity and projection. Ideal for cool autumn and winter days.
Distinct, dominant, and elegant. Excellent performance.
Niche fragrance in a very affordable format. It immediately reminded me of Tom Ford Oud Wood, which is strange that it doesn’t appear in the ‘reminds me of’ section. Powerful and invasive opening; I recommend not smelling it too close because it saturates your senses with a spice bomb that blocks out other scents for a few minutes. After about 10 minutes, the fragrance settles, revealing a rose with quite a spicy pepper note, and a smoky aroma in the background; eventually, the oud wood fixes beautifully and is exquisite. I recommend buying only after testing, because it’s not for everyone. It’s a strong, smoky, yet very elegant and personality-driven scent that can overwhelm if you prefer fresher or sweeter aromas. But for those who love powerful scents, this strengthens your personality: ‘I’m here, look at me, and don’t forget me,’ that’s the slogan this fragrance projects.
It’s a very good perfume, with amazing longevity and a great trail. A very nice oud wood paired with prominent spices and flowers. I don’t like the rose tone (it’s cloying for me). It’s a bit too sweet for my taste, so I don’t recommend wearing it in warm weather or climates. Still, I’m not regretting the purchase. It doesn’t smell good on me, but my wife thinks it smells great.
The first time I had to get rid of it was quick. It has good longevity and some projection, a rich wood scent and a very delicious rose… But there’s a smell that lingers from start to finish, a tire or burnt plastic odor that gives you a headache. If it weren’t for that burnt plastic smell, this perfume would be exquisite. Scent 6, Longevity 8, Projection 7, Price 8 (it’s cheap, but for the same money you can buy something better).
I got rid of it quickly the first time. It has good longevity and some projection, smells nice with wood and a delicious rose… But there’s a smell that persists from the opening until it fades: it smells like burnt tire or burnt plastic and gives me a headache. If it weren’t for that plasticky smell, it would be exquisite. Scent rating: 6, Longevity: 8, Projection: 7, Price: 8 (it’s cheap, but for that money you can buy something better).
For a formal occasion, this is spectacular. A delicious, well-placed rose note that blends perfectly with the initial citrus and the sweet herbal mid-notes, with the woody base adding elegance. And I have to say, the very woody aspect overwhelms me. If you like rose, though… this blows Moschino’s Toy Boy with its tedious pepper out of the water, and other rose-oud creations that get cloying and too smoky. Plus, it’s a steal, and the trail and longevity are through the roof. P.S.: Extremely similar to Blue Sapphire by BTV, but without having to sell your organs.
I bought it for myself, but after trying it, I didn’t like it and gave it to my brother. He smelled it and thought it was spectacular… it has an amazing trail, noticeable from afar… a very well-crafted rose. Pity the quality of the bottle and the atomizer, which leaked after a week of use and the paint started peeling. Bad in that regard.
Incredible projection and longevity. A fragrance with tons of personality and, for me, absolutely delicious. It’s packed with spices that make it aggressive (my wife loves it, but after a few hours of me wearing it, she’s not so into it); the clove and pepper actually sting your nose. Apply it moderately and stick to fall or winter.
It smells terrible. I tried to like it, kept it for several months thinking I’d eventually get used to it, but the opposite happened: every time I tried it, the smell was worse than the previous time. It gives off an insecticide-type aroma. Luckily I could return it; I just hope the person I gave it to doesn’t read this because I looked very hypocritical trying to convince them.
It gave me a nervous breakdown. I wore it for months, convinced I’d eventually get used to it, but the opposite happened: every time I tried it again, it smelled worse than the last time. It smells like pure insecticide. Luckily, I switched to something else; I just hope the person who wore it doesn’t read this, because I felt so hypocritical trying to convince them.
