Palmarola is a masterpiece by Le Couvent, helmed by the great Jean-Claude Ellena. The name pays homage to an Italian island, and Thomas Fontaine drew inspiration from it to create this gem. The citrus opening is intense, though it doesn’t last long. It’s a vibrant bergamot and Sicilian lemon wrapped in a magnificent jasmine that takes center stage. The fact that it uses natural Philippine jasmine instead of synthetics (like many expensive perfumes) is a marvel. The Guaiac wood gives structure to a simple yet spot-on composition. It projects well for about 4 hours and easily lasts 12 on skin. Being floral, it has a feminine character, but that citrus opening with quality wood makes me feel very comfortable; it’s the only floral I wear. It reminds me of Mugler’s Alien but with better DNA, or Le Labo’s Jasmin 17 and Hermès’ Cedre Sambac. Designer pricing (80/90€ for 100ml) but with niche quality. The dry-down is simple yet superb. Highly recommended.

  • Delicious; the fresh and floral notes are what really hook me. After the initial burst, the oud settles on my skin, adding depth and elegance.
