I haven’t tried the original, so this is only about the 2021 formula. At first, it smells strong, like a makeup bag: lipsticks and pressed powders. At times it reminds me of Narciso Rouge with that waxy, powdery scent. Then it turns sweet due to the vanilla and petit grain, settling into a woody iris with balsamic galbanum. The projection is a soft cloud that lasts about 8 hours, dropping to skin-level by hour 6. I really liked it; it makes me think of Saint-Exupéry flying at night over Marseille. Although it’s adapted for today, it keeps that vintage vanity room scent that other versions lack. It’s cool, feminine, and has modern glamour, ideal for mild days. Pleasant: 8/10, Interesting: 6/10, Versatile: 7/10, Original: 8/10 for being the direct heir to the galbanum/iris blend.
On my skin, what dominates everything is galbanum. Most people find it strange and ask me ‘what are you wearing?’, but I love it. For me, this one, Vol de Nuit, and Sisley’s Eau d’Ikar are my favorite galbanums because they are so recognizable and persistent. If you don’t know it, it’s a great way to get into it, especially on skin, because from my experience, it doesn’t sit well easily. It’s very green, potent, and has a bitter touch.
I’m talking about the previous version, which I loved, but the current one I was gifted has lost all its power. Now it smells very subtle and I have to hunt for it with my nose, so goodbye to the old one. For those who haven’t known it before, maybe they’ll like it, but for me, the new version says nothing. As I always say: go and try it yourself.
I was really excited to try this, and while the scent is absolutely wonderful, the longevity is a total letdown. It’s barely noticeable at all, even if you press your nose right against your wrist; I’d say it lasts three hours or less. It’s a shame because it smells great, but it has no sillage. I sold it because, out of my 100 perfumes, not even the cheapest one lasts less than this. I’m obsessed with Guerlain, but I can’t stand having something that evaporates instantly and leaves me with nothing to smell.
