Timeless by Avon

It starts bitter but turns soft and delicate; I loved it.

TIMELESS is inspired by the first Miss Dior from 1948; they say Dior wore it to shows. It’s eternal, just like its name—a true Avon gem that defined generations. My aunts used to wear it; it has that pre-vintage DNA. What started as something catalog-quality and affordable feels opulent when sprayed; Avon always manages to smell good and stand up to big brands. I’ve already finished a bottle; it’s addictive. That clean powder note is my favorite; it wraps the scent because I associate it with loving aunts and grandmas. I have another bottle I smell while writing; its vintage aura, even in the bottle, drives me crazy—it has history. I won’t criticize longevity or sillage because it’s undeniable. TIMELESS is a down-to-earth lady who pretended to be opulent and elegant, but without reaching millions or luxury trips; in a tender, kitsch way, she fooled many into thinking she rubbed shoulders with Parisian high society. She never used fakes, only clearance clothes; she didn’t steal or envy, yet she fooled many in the best way possible. She was a countess at heart and knew it. Was she born at the wrong time? When she was old and dealing with age-related issues, she wondered if it was karma from past lives. Her greatest feat was leaving a mark, however humble: ETERNAL.

I love its dry-down; it reminds me of Cacharel’s Eden.

As a teenager, my mom sold AVON, and I loved this perfume; I remember it deeply and mysteriously. Now I can’t find it in Spain, but I see it’s still alive in other countries. Before, it was super long-lasting; I don’t know if it’s now another victim of performance cuts.

In my childhood, my mom used this perfume a lot, if not every day. It brings me lovely memories.

It’s an excellent perfume. It makes me think of people who dismiss Avon perfumes. It’s totally vintage, yes, I agree. Not for everyone’s taste? Yes, I agree too. Is it strong? Totally. Strong, persistent, powerful. But it’s a beast of a perfume for such a low cost. You can always find it on sale if you know where to look, and it never disappoints, just like I believe all Avon perfumes do. I use it as a wildcard. I’ve even played with the idea that it brings me luck because every time I’ve worn it, things went amazingly well, so I attribute it to my magical thinking about this beautiful perfume. I hope Avon keeps it around. In my case, I feel the aldehydic opening strongly, but then, as it settles, the dry-down is a pleasure—so floral and powdery, with just the right sweetness; it’s a very well-crafted perfume. Not a clone or anything, but I relate to it via its power with Giorgio de Beverly Hills. Maybe they’re from the same era and share notes, but I find them in perfect sync.

I have more perfumes than I imagined. Although I still have many to try, I’ve learned a lot and now have what to compare, especially among classics. Timeless is one of my favorites in the collection. From Avon, who would say that? It far surpasses iconic brands that few question today. I’m using it right now and thought that, if I didn’t know it, I wouldn’t even say Timeless was of better quality than some Chanel dilutions I paid a small fortune for and sniffed blindly. I understand its intensity isn’t for everyone. It’s not sober, nor would I wear it every day. But I love it, it’s addictive, I don’t quite know why. It’s warm, cozy, resinous, and well sweet. Floral sweet, not cheap candy sweet… I’m fascinated! Long life to this jewel we can fortunately pay a few coins for.

It has an intensity not for everyone. It’s not understated; I wouldn’t wear it every day. But I love it, it’s addictive, I don’t know why. It’s warm, cozy, resinous, and nicely sweet. I tried the cologne and honestly, it’s not my taste (I’m a lover of sweet gourmand or floral scents, quite feminine). I find it very strong (I only tried the cologne on skin, imagine the Eau de Parfum). I feel very herbal with a sweet or honeyed touch, something unisex or so on my skin. Its longevity stands out; only the cologne lasted as long as other perfumes. I applied a bit at noon and wrote this in the early morning and still smell it. As it dries and time passes, it becomes subtler and I like it a bit more, though it doesn’t identify with me yet. I recommend it for women who like strong, herbal, woody scents with a masculine touch, potent and classic. Even if you only buy the cologne, it depends on pH, but it will probably last a long time. I’m going to give it more chances because I don’t like sticking with the first impression. I learned that some aromas don’t like at first sniff, but later can fall in love with them, so don’t stick with the first idea. That happened with many Natura and some Avon scents. Without a doubt, I’ll apply it again.

Timeless is a little jewel from Avon that shines like the brand’s star perfume. Beyond its repertoire, it’s one of its most pampered. It’s an amber bomb, earthy, with a bold vanilla that intertwines with resins and tonka bean. Musky, exuberant, suggestive. If I compare it to Guerlain and Coty, they share that amber, woody, vanilla halo. Especially the vanilla in the dry down brings it closer to Shalimar, but without leather. It also approaches Houbigant’s Chantilly (without spices and leather) and a bit of Revlon’s Intimate (without so much musk and civet) and Madame Rochas (though this one is more floral). Over the years, in reformulations, they lowered the aldehydes to give way to a more predominant vanilla. Broadly speaking, its essence wasn’t damaged, and at an accessible price, it still has optimal quality. The fixation of the first versions was off the charts, over 10 hours; now it performs less but for me, it’s enough. The bottle is a treasure, still available in the 70s format. For many it might be a mature scent, but for me, it remains Timeless.

It reminds me of my first year of high school, in 2004. Classes started at 7:15, so I appreciated the warmth of the perfume against the cold at that hour (except in summer). Yes, it has a very present talcum powder scent, but with spices and an earthy touch that fascinates me. Today I had a bottle in my hands again; I appreciate the time travel our sense of smell allows… it’s a strong scent, with character, for a confident person who goes beyond trends. It has a certain resemblance to Classique by Gaultier, another perfume I love.

The perfume isn’t ugly, it’s rich, but I smell baby powder in it and I think I’d use it to put on a pillow to sleep, but not for any other occasion. It’s rich, but it doesn’t convince me as a perfume.

At first I didn’t like it, but on a second try, yes. I was able to get it on Mercado Libre in Uruguay. What a pity my husband doesn’t like it; he says it’s very strong.

Timeless is one of the few glorious, very balanced, opulent, elegant, complex perfumes. Wow, I admit with a flourish that Timeless is a wonderful perfume, a well-earned 10. Timeless smells good (or good, it used to, I can’t find it for sale in my country anymore) of frankincense, aldehydes, tonka bean, amber, musk, patchouli, and in the background shone vanilla, white flowers, and woods. You could smell and decipher all its notes; at first it was a bomb, and as it settled on the skin, each note took its place, becoming companions, filling with balance, and turning a bit powdery. What a delight it was to smell this great perfume at such a great price. Timeless was so elegant and opulent; its trail and longevity were moderate. I miss those Avon glories.

It’s a powdery perfume (which isn’t for me) that reminds me a lot of my grandmother, who used to wear it. Personally, I don’t like it.
