Vanille Bourbon 2000 by Yves Rocher

I remember it with the green cap on the bottle. Yves Rocher’s Bourbon Vanilla was my first own perfume. I loved it; it lasted forever and smelled like baked goods—you’d think you were a walking cake. I remember going to school drenched in this: vanilla, vanilla, vanilla! What a delight, I wish they’d make it again… Sometimes I felt like the dolls were still smelling me, even after I’d showered and not worn it. I’d sweat and smell like custard… I haven’t found a vanilla like this again: so sweet, so bakery-like, unpretentious, and lasting a lifetime once you put it on… That said, it wasn’t for people who don’t like sweets… Because smelling it was like eating a six-slice cake all by yourself… What a rich experience!

Wonderful vanilla with a little extra—I read a while back it’s blended with fruits and white flowers. When these quality perfumes at great prices were worth it, this was my signature scent for nearly 20 years. I still have some bottles of the newer formats. The body spray doesn’t do it justice; what a pity they turned it into that.

At first, very intense, sensual, and extra sweet. It softens up after a bit. I wore it a lot during my university years.

Hi! At first, it’s powerful, sweet, and smells like caramelized almonds that make me hungry. But after ten minutes, that note disappears, leaving pure bourbon vanilla, with the bean and all, no dessert vibes. Imagine putting that bean in a glass and adding a good shot of honeyed rum: sweet but with its alcohol kick—that’s how this Vanille Bourbon smells. Maybe the alcohol note is due to my vintage 20ml bottle which already has sediments, so it might not be in perfect condition, but I love it. The longevity surprised me; it always lasts over 12 hours with a moderate sillage at the start. Perfect for all day in cold or mild weather. Great value for money, though I’m not sure how the current formula will hold up. It’s an affordable perfume for vanilla fans and mixes well with others. I’m not sure if Yves Rocher has reformulated their flavored colognes because I notice across the whole range that the sillage isn’t as strong as before. I remember this was one of my first winter colognes in high school, and I had to be careful applying it because the scent was noticeable everywhere, which could be annoying to people around me. Recently, I bought it again and had the same caution as back then. To my surprise, it no longer ‘floods the room’ like it used to, and I have to double the applications to get the same effect. Still, I really like this natural-sounding vanilla formula, more so than others from different brands.
