It’s a dark and mysterious scent, neither loud nor overwhelming. Upon spraying, the spices stand out, with a herbal tea-like touch, hints of smoke, and a very prominent myrtle. In the heart, there’s a spicy blend with lots of cumin, and a semi-smoky animalic base. The cocoa emerges more as it dries down, though I was hoping for a stronger presence. It’s sweet but in moderation, comfortable to wear, evoking the Sahara desert, a colorful sunrise, and tea to the rhythm of a darbouka. I like it more as it evolves. The trail is decent and moderate, lasting about 6 hours on my skin. I see it more for cool or cold weather, and it leans slightly masculine.

The official notes are bergamot cumin nuts periwinkle oud cacao and styrax. Thé Darbouka kicks off with a shy bergamot and smoky leathery nuances from the styrax. The bergamot fades slowly and the scent turns more resinous spicy and sweet on the base. In the heart it has a certain designer vibe but with better-quality ingredients; the smoky touch vanishes and the spices take over highlighting an unlisted cardamom and bringing in the periwinkle with liquorice and dry nuances. The dry down is my favorite: the texture becomes creamy the smoky and spicy touches disappear and you can detect liquorice with a very subtle trail of oud cacao and nuts. Overall the perfume is very timid. Performance is weak especially in projection; it falls short and lacks presence. Longevity isn’t bad but it clings to the skin too soon. I think it’s geared toward a male audience and fits almost any weather. Personally it leaves me mixed: it smells good and has moments I like especially the dry down which takes too long to arrive but the issue is it’s too timid from start to finish. It falls short in everything. A good attempt that isn’t bad but doesn’t stand out and at €1.4 per milliliter I’d expect something more.

The website lists bergamot cumin nuts periwinkle oud cacao and styrax. Thé Darbouka opens with a very restrained bergamot and smoky leathery nuances from the styrax. Gradually the bergamot fades and the scent becomes more resinous spicy and sweet on the base. In the heart it has a certain designer perfume vibe but with higher-quality ingredients; the smoky touch disappears and the spices gain strength. I detect an unlisted cardamom and the periwinkle enters adding liquorice and dry notes. The dry down is what I like most: creamy texture no smoke or spices with a liquorice note very subtle oud and lots of cacao with nuts. Overall the scent is very timid. Performance is weak especially in projection; it lacks presence. Longevity is decent but it clings to the skin too soon. I think it’s aimed at men and suitable for any weather. It leaves me lukewarm: it smells good and has moments I enjoy especially the dry down which takes too long to arrive but the problem is it’s too timid from start to finish. It falls short in every way. A good attempt not bad but not standout and at €1.4 per milliliter I expected more.
