Sundowner by Tauer Perfumes is an aromatic woody creation designed for men and women. Launched in 2021, this fragrance was composed by Andy Tauer. Its opening unfolds with a vibrant top note of cinnamon, orange peel, rose oil, and bergamot. The heart reveals a warm depth featuring tobacco, cacao, and cyperus, also known as nagarmota. The base settles into a silky foundation of ambergris, sandalwood, tonka bean, and vanilla.

With honor, I write the first Spanish review of this masterpiece. After seeing and reading several reviews (I wouldn’t call it a ‘fragrance,’ it would be an insult), I decided to buy it with high expectations and blindly. It’s one of those perfumes made to transport you through your olfactory memory or place you in a specific context. It smells like a summer sunset, accompanied by the person you love, relaxing smoking tobacco, drinking tea or coffee, and eating something sweet; sitting on a hotel terrace with a sea view, with hints of sea breeze and the scent of bronzed skin. I smell this and imagine a sunset; it’s magnificent. It opens with citrus to give way to tobacco or its ashes, which seem like vanilla (I perceive pipe tobacco and burnt notes), and cinnamon, a delicious combination, all over Tauer’s characteristic amber DNA. Most place it in autumn and winter, and I agree, except I’d prefer to wear it on a cold but sunny day. It’s for those melancholic days, remembering distant summers and vacation moments, and why not, summer love. Unisex perfume, for personal enjoyment, not to conquer, not for the office or night. It is definitely an olfactory experience with the quality Tauer is accustomed to. Its notes don’t include leather, but I perceive it very weakly in the dry down; perhaps it’s ambergris. I don’t recommend blind buying if you’re looking for daily or specific occasion use; if you’re a collector, go for it. Finally, it filled and exceeded my expectations. I won’t talk about performance or projection because that’s not my thing, but on paper it easily lasts 12 hours. I tested it on skin but showered in the middle, so I can’t detail its performance yet. I have more reviews and decants on Instagram: @ambar.gris.decants
The self-taught, dreamy nose behind these creations argues that for unique fragrances, you need time, patience, and creativity. It seems all of this exists in abundance when Sundowner crosses your path. It’s sweet but not cloying, although compared to L’Air du Desert it’s more sugared and less spicy. It’s interesting how, being the least novel and versatile of this oriental triad, any setting works: afternoon, night, or sunset. This guy puts love into what he does.
It’s not a bad perfume, but it doesn’t reach the level of Andy’s greats. At first, a blast of tobacco—blond? (it reminded me of the taste of Winstons I smoked years ago)—then it becomes warmer, ambered, coffee-like, and sweet. As its name suggests, it conveys the idea of an ideal fragrance to enjoy a drink on a terrace watching the sunset, or for autumn/winter by a fireplace, like By the Fireplace or Memoirs of a Trespasser. It’s that type. As I said, it’s not bad, but it lacks something to steal my heart (besides, I’m not passionate about this type of fragrance).
Simply the best tobacco perfume I’ve ever smelled; reading the notes makes it seem wintery, but I’d wear it in the heat without any issues. I imagine myself on the beach watching the sunset, with a cigar, a guayabera shirt, Bermuda shorts, and sipping cognac on the rocks; it will definitely make my Top 10.
Certainly, for me, it has been a very evocative scent. It transports me to the cigar factory where my grandmother worked, a place I used to visit as a child to find her. Sundowner replicates all those old nuances of tobacco evolution, from the leaves to the final product. I find this great perfume much better than others with more hype right now. It has very good performance and evolution on skin. If you love tobacco, want something evocative and different, you must try it. Andy Tauer knows how to do things differently!
What an evocative scent! It instantly transports me to the tobacco factory where my grandmother used to work—a place I’d visit as a kid to find her. Sundowner captures all those vintage nuances of tobacco, from the leaf to the finished product. Honestly, this masterpiece outshines all the hyped perfumes out there right now. Plus, it has great longevity and evolves beautifully on the skin. If you love tobacco and are looking for something evocative and unique, give it a try. Andy Tauer really knows how to do things differently.
An olfactory experience with that characteristic Tauer base. You can’t deconstruct it; you have to take it all in as a complete work of art. On my skin, ranging from 4 to 36 degrees, it’s consistent at first and gradually evolves into a soft, sweetened second phase—a true delight. Then it fades slowly, lasting over 8 hours and leaving a personal bubble of about 30cm before needing a reapplication. I loved it in spring and autumn without wind; I also enjoy it quite a bit in summer, so I encourage you to try it in the heat. It doesn’t fall into the floral sweetness of Golestan; it uses the orange from Orange Star subtly and hidden, with a touch of natural rose behind the vanilla-tinted tobacco and a powdery patchouli. Don’t expect tobacco like in Tabac Nomade or Herod; this is distinct and has no redundancy in my collection. For me, it evokes the memory of being a child with my grandfather watching a sunset, the day’s heat interrupted by a fresh breeze while he prepared to smoke and I ate candies, with a floral scent in the background. If you can, try Sundowner and enjoy it as much as I do.
Andy Tauer’s tobacco-focused perfume is pure bliss. Opens with notes of orange and cinnamon, followed by a creamy, sweet base of blond tobacco and sandalwood that lasts all day. I detect a fine, unlisted leather note in the dry down that gives it identity and signature. Probably the most underrated scent in Tauer’s line. Original aroma, great evolution, excellent performance, and usually a crowd-pleaser. Rating: 9/10
This Andy Tauer tobacco-focused fragrance is a delight: tobacco, orange, cinnamon, creamy, sweet, and cozy. Very well balanced, it opens with orange and cinnamon, then settles into that sweet, creamy base of blond tobacco and sandalwood that lingers forever. Although leather isn’t listed, I detect a very fine cured leather note in the dry down that blends seamlessly with the tobacco and sandalwood, giving it that signature Tauer touch. It’s probably his most underrated creation… An original scent, excellent evolution, great performance, and it usually pleases almost everyone. Final note: 9/10
