As CarCar says, green tea is a mystery in Argentina, so when I found out Kenzo had touched it, I grabbed the Poudre Matcha without hesitation and barely even tested it. It was a mistake not to test it first; we didn’t get along chemically. I love the opening, but it instantly turns into musk with pure vanilla (and I hate when vanilla swallows the whole perfume). Plus, its longevity is infernal. Wish I could test before buying.
I spent the week testing these new Kenzo releases and they deliver, though I still have more to discover. Here, there are no bomb-shells; they are open scents with good longevity but close projection, very ‘Kenzo bubble’ style. Starting with the Matcha: it combines the punch of green tea with a rounded base of musk and vanilla. The Fragrantica notes are wrong: they say ‘yerba mate’ when it’s green tea, who understands? Once it settles, it smells like musk, soft vanilla, a touch of fruity and floral similar to the Flower EDT 2020. That amount of musk gives it tremendous longevity, somewhat redundant, but the matcha never disappears, just fades, making it unique. Here in Argentina, green tea is rare; I only know the Elizabeth Arden one, so this is very original. I love the contrast between the fresh, powdery, and energetic matcha with the warm and sweet musk. Both accords intertwine, sometimes one wins, sometimes the other, creating something unpredictable and playful. Perfect unisex. It’s not my favorite for green scents, but I wouldn’t mind having it for the days it calls for.
