Poker Face by Ted Lapidus is a woody spicy fragrance for men. Launched in 2018, this composition reveals lavender, violet leaf, bergamot, and mint in the top notes. The heart unfolds iris, cardamom, and black pepper, while the base settles on tonka bean, patchouli, and cedar.

  • It’s a good creation; it reminds me of other great perfumes but with a distinct touch—nothing generic because you can tell the quality here. The exquisite cedar, patchouli, and iris are the notes that make the difference. Anyone who said it resembled YSL’s Frozen Nuit was spot on. Now, the bottle: I don’t know what genius designed that horrible container; did they have to be drunk? But it’s worth it for the rich aroma. Everything is about the eyes; imagine beautiful John Varvatos bottles; people buy as much for the packaging as for what’s inside.

  • Paolo Kallfkurá

Could be the twin brother of YSL’s L’Homme line, fulfilling its role as an intimate, warm, and clean fragrance. The opening is striking with lavender, lily, and pepper, but that spark fades and it becomes subtle on the skin. What remains is a woody amber scent that adds creaminess. It’s a skin scent, sexy yet reserved.

Quick test: for the price, it’s a hit, but the opening caught me off guard with a dry wood vibe reminiscent of Palo de Sol, vaguely recalling Dior Homme or Boss Cantimplora Extreme. Once that phase passes, it shines sweet and elegant thanks to the iris and Tonka bean. I wore it alongside Yves Saint Laurent Nuit de l’Homme; Ted won on strength and longevity, though Nuit was warmer and had better olfactory quality. Bottom line: it’s not for me. It sounds mature and elegant, nothing youthful like I prefer.

The bottle and name don’t do this gem justice. It smells very similar to three beasts: YSL La Nuit de l’Homme, D&G The One for Men, and CK One Shock. It’s seductive, nocturnal, and a safe bet for cold nights. The price is ridiculously cheap compared to what it offers in scent, longevity, and projection. Thanks, Ted Lapidus.

  • I agree with the previous review; at first, what I perceive most is the wood (about 5 minutes), but it evolves into an iris that doesn’t resemble the ones in Dior’s Homme line. In this case, it’s a sweet, soapy iris, not powdery, which will dominate until the end. Cardamom and pepper accompany this sweet iris very well, without being jarring for the younger member of the Lapidus family. In this sense, it differs from the rest of its siblings by not having a pronounced opening, an invasive sillage, and ‘beast mode’ longevity. However, it lasts (on my skin) about 7 to 8 hours, projecting for 2 hours with moderate sillage. I think autumn is the ideal season for its use. Unfortunately, there is a strong divergence in execution between what one perceives when seeing the horrible bottle (and the cap that pops off easily) versus the great aroma it encloses. In summary, a good perfume with a clean, masculine scent at an excellent price. Scent: 8.5, Versatility: 7.5, Longevity: 8, Projection: 7, Sillage: 8, Value/Quality: 9.5.

  • I agree with the previous review: at first, what I perceive most is the wood (about 5 minutes), but it evolves into a sweet, soapy iris—not powdery—that dominates until the end. Cardamom and pepper accompany this sweet iris very well, without being too loud for the younger member of the Lapidus family. It differs from its siblings by not having a pronounced opening or an invasive sillage. It lasts 7 to 8 hours on my skin, projecting for 2 hours with moderate sillage. I think autumn is its ideal season. Unfortunately, there’s a strong divergence between the horrible bottle (and the cap that falls off easily) and the great scent it holds. • A very good price-to-quality option if you like iris. Examples: Dior Homme Parfum by Christian Dior, Gentleman Eau de Parfum by Givenchy. They are very similar. Poker Face is ideal for autumn/winter, the price is more than reasonable, and the bottle says nothing, but what matters is what’s inside. I agree with the previous review. Iris and tonka are not aggressive at all, but have good sillage, projection, and longevity. I like it; it smells good and is new, something different from this prestigious house. Being generous with applications, as always, it lasts many hours. Price: 10, Sillage & Projection: 7, Longevity: 8. Warm regards from Argentina.

Ted Lapidus is one of my favorite designers. This time he created something decidedly delicate and less potent, with fairly regular longevity that has its charm. Modern and elegant, the opening reveals itself as very aromatic; the citrus notes bring freshness, while the iris (not powdery at all, a bit raw) combined with pepper and the woody notes create an elegant and seductive cloud. It should be tested in colder weather; surely its performance would increase. Either way, a great scent with an excellent quality-price ratio.

  • An intimate, reserved, and elegant fragrance. Although it might seem generic, harsh, and lacking power, it works perfectly for certain occasions like lunch, dinner, or tea, especially when accompanied by others, so as not to be invasive or cause an unpleasant sensation when mixing with food aromas. While it doesn’t have the explosion Ted Lapidus is known for when perceiving the exquisite notes of the classic Gris, the darkness of Extreme, or the complexity of Alcazar, Poker Face fits better as subtle and somewhat unnoticed but present. It reminds me of James Bond 007.

I just bought this for my son, and it smells delicious. The opening is generic, but it evolves in minutes into something elegant and exquisite—I actually wanted to wrap my arm around my son’s neck for a long time, haha. The best part is the price: it offers more than it costs and gives the feeling of belonging to prestigious houses. Longevity and sillage are excellent. I loved the combination of notes; they are in perfect harmony. I give it 8.5/10, highly recommended.

Just bought this for my son and I have to say, it smells amazing. The opening is generic, but after a few minutes it transforms into something elegant and exquisite—I actually wanted to hug my son’s neck for a long time, haha. The best part? The price!!! It offers more than its cost and gives the feeling of belonging to a prestigious house. The longevity and sillage are excellent. I loved the combination of notes; they are in perfect harmony. I give it 8.5/10. Highly recommended.

  • anósmico

Another great job by Ted Lapidus. A delicate and elegant combination of iris, citrus, and wood, mainly, with notable longevity and medium-short projection. In my opinion, it’s usable in any season, even in summer.

  • peperinafragancia

Exquisite, a work of art. A scent almost identical to YSL La Nuit de l’Homme (soft, warm orange with subtle floral notes). It feels natural and of very high quality; I was truly impressed. It’s a delight at a price far too low for its quality. Truly a miracle. If you like La Nuit de l’Homme, it’s a blind buy, 100% recommended. I’ve read criticisms about the bottle and disagree; it’s beautiful, rectangular, with textured smoked glass, more attractive than Blue de Chanel or Armani Code. An unknown gem.

  • What a great fragrance! 👌 I’ll update later since it just arrived and I’m still getting used to it 😁. Update: The opening is unusual for my nose; it doesn’t smell bad, I like it, but it’s atypical. I suspect it’s the violet leaves. The dry down is the best part, as described below. It’s an easy but rich scent. The weak point is performance; it doesn’t stand out in cool temperatures. If you catch it at a good price, it’s a great option. I haven’t tried the one people say it resembles, but YSL scents don’t stand out in potency these days either. Finally, I don’t know what’s wrong with the bottle; it’s a classic straight-line design. The only flaw is the cap, which doesn’t hold well and risks falling if you grip it loosely. To me, a bad-looking bottle could be Toy Boy 😂

  • cvidalg2004

Excellent. Once dry, I can’t tell it apart from YSL La Nuit. The price-to-quality ratio is brutal; it’s a must-buy.

  • cvidalg2004

Excellent fragrance; after drying down, it’s impossible to distinguish it from YSL La Nuit. The price-to-quality ratio is overwhelming; it’s a must-buy.

  • 10/10 fragrance. The only downside is versatility; it smells a bit like a sharpened pencil or makeup, but compared to Dior Homme or Prada, it holds up well. For the price, it’s unbeatable.

  • Here’s a great fragrance at an egg price (though nowadays eggs aren’t cheap, haha). A scent that reminds me of YSL’s Nuit but with more flaws in its construction. Performance is quite good, lasting 7 to 8 hours. In summary, 100% recommended. Rating: 7.5/10.

  • Here, there’s truly a good fragrance at egg prices (though nowadays, honestly, eggs aren’t cheap, haha). A scent that resembles YSL La Nuit but with more flaws in its construction. As for performance, it does quite well for 7 to 8 hours. In summary, 100% recommended. Rating: 7.5/10.

  • A great fragrance. Upon application, it brought back memories of Ted Lapidus Black Soul; then, an hour later, that sensation fades, and Black Soul feels heavier. Clearly, it’s very similar to YSL La Nuit at a very low cost. Longevity and sillage are fantastic. Its scent in cold or semi-cold weather is very pleasant. Ideal for night dates and cold days/nights. I recommend it highly; it’s an elegant scent that doesn’t go unnoticed.

  • FedericoAlexisB

I bought it for the good price; it’s rich and elegant, not for wearing while dressed poorly. I see it as very nocturnal, a bit heavy for daytime use. On my skin, it lasts 6-7 hours, projecting for 2-3 hours. An excellent option for special occasions. Not my style, but it has great quality. Final rating: 8/10.

  • A fragrance that, despite costing little, has a wonderful scent. In the first hour, black pepper feels quite sharp but not annoying, then it shifts to a makeup pencil touch. It’s simple for cold seasons or fresh days. It has moments with those La Nuit bursts. Longevity of those occasional fragrances that leave a good impression; great for a night date, works in open or closed spaces without being overwhelming. Longevity: 8, Sillage: 8, Projection: 7, Price: 10. Undoubtedly, a beautiful, pleasant fragrance that creates a sense of closeness.

  • JohnAcosta25

Excellent quality-to-price ratio. Smells refined and expensive. A great option for a first fragrance, with an iris heart. Seems totally winter-appropriate and perfect for intimate nights. It’s not invasive. Try it before spending on YSL La Nuit and derivatives. Sometimes it gives off a crayon or fine makeup vibe. I almost see it as unisex, but it’s not.

The French house Ted Lapidus ‘modernized’ its men’s catalog with this fragrance, Poker Face, alongside TL Intenso and the Stories saga. It’s a blend of 30% YSL La Nuit de L’homme (2009), 30% of the Dior Homme saga (that powdery scent with a strong iris/orris note, leaning towards feminine makeup), and 10% of the discontinued CH Men Privé, with a tiny touch of softened, sweetened leather, especially in the opening. The best part: the price, between 25 and 35 euros, and its good availability in Spain (Prieto perfumeries, chip section). The bottle looks cool, and the atomizer works well. The worst: its longevity is extremely short; on my skin, max 2 hours (my bottle is from 2022; I don’t know if it’s been reformulated, but I’m floored by what people say it lasts 7-8 hours… either I got ripped off or everyone smokes oregano). Sillage is max 30 minutes, never passing 30 cm. By hour three, bye Pedrín, as if you walked out unperfumed. Originality? Zero. Nowadays, it’s more overused than the handrail on Gran Vía metro.

  • naso_en_ciernes

This perfume gives more than it costs. A ‘sweet’ iris mixed with La Nuit de L’homme vibes is a hit. It has evolution and aromatic quality you wouldn’t expect from another expensive perfume (Poker Face is gift-price). It opens with noticeable iris, dries down, sweetens precisely, and cardamomo appears, then it gets powdery. A daytime scent, perfect for autumn and winter; nocturnal, less so for extreme temperatures. Longevity and projection are decent; it offers more pros than cons, making it a blind buy for any iris lover or La Nuit nostalgist. I’m not revealing a hidden gem; many already know it, and it’s easily accessible. Definitely, this scent won’t leave anyone with a ‘poker face’. Edit: halfway through the bottle, it smells more to me like orris or iris root; it’s become more intense. I feel qualified to recommend it blindly to iris lovers; I’d buy it again, something I wouldn’t do with any cheap perfume in my collection.

  • Mezamati13

I remember La Nuit de l’homme from 2020; I thought it was one of the most charming and seductive, but it lasted barely anything. A few days ago, I picked up Poker Face by Ted Lapidus without high hopes, and it really captivated me. It’s a scent very close to La Nuit, with a notable iris base and a sweeter touch. It’s almost identical—a safe purchase. Sometimes I think everyone should own one, but I don’t want it to get too common. Haha… in my country, it’s not a typical scent; everyone goes for sweet PR or JPG fragrances, so Poker Face makes you stand out. It’s exquisite and sensual; unlike La Nuit, it lasts! I wear it to university and it lasts all day. It doesn’t project much, but that’s the charm: it’s a scent that invites you to get closer. I wouldn’t say the projection is bad like La Nuit’s; it’s right on point. Besides the quality, the best part is the price: I got 100 ml for $18 with shipping, which is insane. When I showed it to my brother, he thought it was $70 and couldn’t believe the receipt. It smells way more expensive than it is. The value proposition is crazy; it crushes Zara perfumes that feel synthetic and last a breath. I went to a perfumery and tried La Nuit again; Poker Face is the perfect clone; in some spots, they’re indistinguishable. Don’t doubt this beauty. You have the right not to like it, but objectively, it’s not bad—it’s the opposite. It has the three ‘B’s’, makes you stand out, and the atomizer doesn’t hurt. If it runs out, getting another one is almost a gift.

  • This fragrance is an absolute steal. High-quality scent for a ridiculously low price. Buy it blind, no hesitation.

  • FecoParfums

@nestordff, old man, nobody compares it to the 2009 Nuit de l’Homme, nor the EDP. They compare it to the one sold TODAY in stores for 130 USD, which lasts 2 hours and disappears. I grabbed this one for 15 USD, it delivers the same, super charming and tasty, with that powdery iris that fans appreciate. It serves you for what it serves and lasts what it lasts. Now, if you want to cheat yourself by paying what Nuit de l’Homme costs, go ahead, you’re just paying the cost of your ego. Pokerface is vastly undervalued, it could cost the same 130 USD. I insist, it’s compared to Nuit de l’Homme, not the EDP version. That’s something else.

  • nestordff

Gentlemen, take note: this doesn’t even come close to the sole of La Nuit from 2009, let alone the current Eau de Parfum. It’s a decent perfume that reminds you of La Nuit, but it’s light years away in quality. Poker Face is sweeter, powdery, and flat; YSL, on the other hand, has a slow dry-down, an effervescent and deep opening that lasts longer. Plus, the cap and atomizer on YSL are top-notch, while here they’re a disaster. It’s not bad if you can’t afford La Nuit, but the quality differences are night and day.

  • Ignacio Bravo

Very pleasant to wear on autumn and winter days, like today. An elegant fragrance at half the price is not to be despised these days, maybe it will go with me for the next few years. A soft sweetness and powdery touch to spray on a nice shirt and head out to the streets.

  • I bought it blind in 50ml version in case I didn’t like it, because they recommended it as an inspiration for YSL LNDH. The truth is my favorite is YSL L’homme, but so far I haven’t found any clone. I think I just like it on my own, haha. Long ago I bought Al Nashama Caprice which they sold as a clone of LNDH Bleu Electrique, the truth is I thought it was horrible: it didn’t last at all and had a disgusting synthetic smell. I ended up selling it on the marketplace and the person who bought it from me also resold it, haha. As for Poker Face, unlike Al Nashama, I loved it. I felt very good quality and a scent very similar to LNDH. I think if you want to have the YSL one and aren’t such a fanatic, it’s a better option to have Poker Face. Today I’m testing it on an outing to see what’s up. PD: If anyone knows an affordable fragrance similar to YSL L’homme, please comment!

  • I tried it and took it home. It’s a lasting scent that doesn’t project much (but you should spray more), smells similar to La Nuit, I’d say 70%, it also has a bit of Dior Homme Intense due to the iris note. I sense more lavender, cedar, iris, and cardamomo, plus floral notes. Personally, the iris makes it a bit feminine, but it does resemble La Nuit and the price is ridiculous. I even recommend buying it blind if you like that type of scent. It’s more versatile than the original and suitable for medium climates like autumn or spring. Suitable for dates.

  • Surprisingly good. The opening is like La Nuit Edt, but with a powdery makeup touch. Comparing both wrists with La Nuit (2023 batch), I’d say Poker Face has more intensity, trail, and projection, a bit heavier, while La Nuit is fresher. Both are seductive, not loud, ideal for dates or good sex with your partner. I’m a cardamom lover and I won’t buy more La Nuit, but I will definitely repurchase Poker Face for the price and performance; it smells more expensive than it is. In my country, you can get it for as little as 40-45 dollars on sale. The drydown isn’t linear as I read, it has nuances if you have a good nose. It also has more notes than LNDH. Obviously, it’s not for a blind buy, it’s for lovers of the La Nuit Homme style.

  • Review of Ted Lapidus Pokerface. I was pleasantly surprised by its scent and commercial value, very accessible. To the point: it opens with well-marked lavender and citrus giving way to pepper and cardamoms, its star notes, giving it a spicy profile. Although Fragantica doesn’t list vanilla in the composition, it undoubtedly carries vanilla to temper those spices before giving way to cedar and tonka bean. The projection is about half an hour before fading slowly, and the duration is around five hours. It’s for all occasions and all four seasons, day and night. In short: a spicy and vanilla fragrance for everything, quite economical in my country (Argentina), and it will receive compliments from both male and female audiences. Greetings.

  • Rich and cheap, ideal to take anywhere in cool or cold weather. I never had the pleasure of smelling the fragrance it’s supposedly inspired by, but as an independent perfume, it’s very good.

  • Exquisite, elegant, and serene fragrance. For cold climates to feel all its power. Worth a thousand times the price. +30 in my opinion.

  • Franubilla

Given the price, it’s an obligatory blind buy. If you want to smell like a black pepper nuclear bomb and already have YSL L’Homme in your collection, this is a notable alternative.

  • Fragranticman

What a relief, a very correct and pleasant fragrance. I bought it blind, as a good colonial perfume addict, and when I tested it on my wrist with just two sprays, I realized I didn’t do it justice. Obviously, I already had another scent on that day, but the next day I wore it to the max and wow, it’s much better than that first impression with those two miserable sprays. It’s not that old-school or vintage style Lapidus usually has, but totally modern, mainstream, and easy to wear. The opening feels a bit weird for about 10-15 seconds, not unpleasant but uncomfortable: synthetic and messy. But that passes quickly. Then the iris appears, very pleasant and the star, accompanied by lavender and cardamom-pepper that give it cleanliness with a spicy touch. It continues like this until the patchouli, tonka bean, and cedar enter, giving it a softly sweetened woody vibe where it stays until the end. It lasts about 5-6 hours with intimate projection. Saying it reminds me of Dior Homme is anecdotal, just because of the iris. I don’t know about the similarity to LNDL, I’ve never tried it, but it has its own path. I wouldn’t wear it if it’s over 20-22 degrees because of the powdery iris, and I’m not sure if it will perform under 15 degrees since it’s so intimate and could get lost. In summary: more than correct, very pleasant, usable in the office in cool weather, and for 16€ for 100ml, it’s perfect.
