Descripción

Oud Or by Houbigant is an oriental woody fragrance for men and women. Launched in 2023, this composition was created by Luca Maffei and Antoine Lie. The top notes unfold with raspberry, rose, and orange blossom; the heart reveals saffron, geranium, Iso E Super, cashmere, labdanum, and patchouli; while the base notes settle on oud wood, guaiac wood, cedar, and vanilla.

The final dry-down is brutal it smells so good. That soft woody and vanilla scent lingering on the skin is divine. The top and middle notes smell great even though I’m not a huge fan of raspberry that dry-down is in a league of its own. All the new Houbigant releases are delicious; the only one I don’t like is Patchouli Sauvage because it offers nothing original and smells like the 80s. This Oud Bois Mystique and Tabac Nomade are pure elegance. They smell glorious and evoke nostalgia nothing synthetic. They aren’t for a young crowd; they smell vintage yet modern at the same time. So far I haven’t tried anything from Houbigant that I didn’t like.

I loved it; it’s a very wearable oud. If you want to start with something non-aggressive or don’t know oud yet, this is the one. Perfect for formal moments and dressed up. It felt like a fresh oud and a great creation from the historic Houbigant.

  • What a difference between paper and skin: on paper it smells very heavy. The top is too much rose perhaps with a hint of raspberry I can’t quite detect but for me it’s too much. Then something shrill emerges I think geranium (which I can’t stand) and a bit of rancidity which ruins the blend. The dry-down is another story: it’s a rich wood blend with a gentle almost imperceptible oud very enjoyable. Too bad those middle notes ruin everything for me.

  • Houbigant Oud Or is without a doubt one of the best European rose-oud combinations I’ve tried in two years. It has character but it’s wearable if you know how to modulate it so it doesn’t overwhelm. It asks for maturity but it’s not a beast or anything weird; it tames easily with an experienced nose. It doesn’t seek to be innovative but rather to bring class to the combo. I compare it to Oud Aquilaria: similar profile but without the apple in the top with more personality and longevity. The rose comes out acidic from a spiced raspberry then the saffron geranium and herbal notes give way before reaching the medicinal oud in the base. Performance is 8 to 10 hours on skin projecting well for the first two hours and then settling into a personal bubble. Ideal for formal or semi-formal situations; I wear it to work and it works well. It can be used year-round except in very hot weather due to the vanilla and saffron. My advice: always test niche perfumes on skin before buying; your skin is the best judge.

  • At first, it seems a bit heavy, but after two hours it blends seamlessly with the skin, leaving a very subtle trail of oud and herbs. It reminds me of Nasomatto’s Black Afgano, but much more understated.
