Descripción

Bois Mystique by Houbigant is a woody fragrance for men. Launched in 2018, this composition was created by perfumer Luca Maffei. Its top notes of cardamom, pink pepper, ginger, absinthe, bergamot, and neroli give way to a heart where incense, cinnamon, cypriol, black pepper, and iris build a warm and spicy structure. The base settles on cedar, myrrh, amber, guaiac wood, cashmere wood, and musk, closing the olfactory experience with a resinous and earthy depth.

Guys, I tried it yesterday but today I gave it two sprays on the nape of my neck. First impression: nothing new under the sun, just like with Fougère Royale, but the QUALITY is on another level (the bottle and cap are top-notch). It smells zero-chemical. It has that fresh, clean old-school DNA, but with woods and spices that make it ideal for fall and winter. It’s modern, elegant, and very natural. The downside is that it’s a skin scent, not a beast in projection (what a pity), but I’ve tested the longevity and it’s incredible. EDIT 1: After 30 minutes, it becomes denser and sweeter, improving even more. EDIT 2: At 8 hours, it’s still on the skin, linear but delicious; it loses its freshness to become amber and woody without being cloying. EDIT 3: At 12 hours and after showering, a very faint trail remains but it’s there. It doesn’t project, but it truly lasts. It’s a safe gem, no one will hate it. Bois Mystique isn’t looking for originality, it’s looking for QUALITY. EDIT 4: I’m in love with it inside and out. Perfect if not for the projection, but with that longevity, a 10/10. If it projected more, I’d give it a 12/10 Cum Laude.

  • I tried it with a Houbigant sample set that was gifted to me. It’s a masculine classic dominated by wood. As mauriciodelaceuz says, it smells like quality, but it doesn’t hook me; it smells like something I’ve heard before and is very linear, so it feels a bit boring. On skin, it lasts little, projects little, and after six hours I can’t smell it anymore. Ideal for daily wear, for going to work, or grabbing a coffee. A bit generic but high quality, for those who prefer to go unnoticed. Of the ones I tried, it was the second-to-last least favorite, just above Cologne Intense, which smells like a classic cologne type like Aqua di Parma but well-made. • I was able to try this perfume because I was gifted a set of Houbigant samples at the perfumerie with my last purchase. It seems like a classic and masculine aroma where the wood stands out the most. As mauriciodelaceuz says it oozes quality everywhere like almost all perfumes from this brand but it’s not a scent I feel like wearing. I could wear it but it doesn’t speak to me and it’s something I’ve heard before elsewhere… And combined with the fact that it’s very linear it makes it a bit boring for me. Also on skin the longevity isn’t that good; it projects little and I stopped smelling it after about six hours at most. It seems like a daily perfume for going to work or grabbing a coffee in the afternoon. A somewhat generic aroma but of quality for those who like to go unnoticed. Of the Houbigant perfumes I could try thanks to this set I think it’s the second-to-last one I liked followed only by Cologne Intense which keeps reminding me of typical classic colognes (like Aqua di Parma) with good quality and good longevity. • One of the best fragrances I’ve ever had. Mystical woody scent a pleasant blend of oriental and western notes agreeable and very unique with that classic elegant fougère touch without being a fougère proper. I’m glad that this house with 4 centuries of experience and heritage now led by Perris Montecarlo had the delicacy to continue this beautiful art. Napoleon shopped at Houbigant. This fragrance is only 2 years old. Notes I love include neroli cardamom cinnamon high-quality woods myrrh amber and musk. I won’t talk about longevity and projection since anyone interested should try it and have their own experience. For me it lasts a long time with a moderate trail which is how I like it. For me fragrances should be part of you and therefore non-intrusive as many know they can be annoying. But everyone has their tastes. Weak opening that builds up gradually. At 20 minutes the fragrance appears with its unique wonderful potential that reaches you and makes you vibrate with its welcoming elegance. At 4-5 hours it starts to dry down leaving a trail of the base scent with the neroli gone but still releasing some glimmers for a few more hours. I’ve even noticed it at 10 hours. For me 10/10.

  • This is simply a masterpiece of perfumery. Elegant beyond measure. In the vibe of Royal Oud. 10/10.

  • Simply one of those few perfumes you could smell for the rest of your life. INCREDIBLE a masterpiece.

  • It’s one of those few perfumes you could smell your whole life. INCREDIBLE, a masterpiece.

This perfume smells like non-intrusive incense wood spiced with lots of cloves licorice and an opening note like melted wax for hair removal. If it has a mystical air due to the incense and shows great harmony and elegance it’s evident of high quality and reminded me of TF Noir but with a more elegant touch.

Seriously what a great perfume. I’m not joking when I say this fragrance is a journey: a divine opening that reminds you a bit of Fougère Royale but quickly shifts to spices with a quick nod to some sweet candy-like scent before moving on. Then comes that nostalgic smell reminiscent of other eras BUT with a modern focus. Modern in that it’s not a powerful scent like perfumes of the past but it has extra presence. Bois Mystique presents itself with this round accommodating aroma; it simply makes you feel good surrounded by this halo of modern nostalgia. It’s like an old car that’s been restored and given a modern interior touch. Yes it’s woody but with sweetness and above all spice. It doesn’t leave much of a trail. On the other hand if you apply it to your clothes it will leave a VERY good scent that I’m sure will please those who get close enough to you; they won’t guess what you’re wearing but they’ll notice it’s one of the high-quality ones. The journey continues as you smell your wrist all day like a junkie but how could you not? It’s truly a masterpiece as one review below says. Describing it by notes is already describing its own thing; what it’s about is describing the sensations it evokes as it evolves which are numerous and hard to explain. It’s one of those perfumes you have to wear at least once to understand what I’m talking about.

For real, what a great perfume. No joke, it’s a journey: a divine opening that reminds me of Fougère Royale but quickly shifts to spices, with a quick nod to something sweet like candy. Then comes that ‘nostalgic’ smell from other times, but modern: it’s not as powerful as the old ones, it has presence but doesn’t shout. Bois Mystique is rounded and makes you feel good, surrounded by this ‘modern nostalgia,’ like a restored vintage car with a modern interior. It’s woody, sweet, and above all spiced. It doesn’t leave much of a trail, but it smells great on clothes; you won’t guess what I’m wearing, but they’ll notice it’s quality. The journey continues as they smell my wrist all day, like a junkie, and who wouldn’t? It’s a masterpiece, as another review says. You don’t describe it by notes, but by the sensations it evokes as it evolves, and there are many and they’re hard to explain. It’s one of those perfumes you have to try to understand it.

  • It’s a fragrance of very high-quality woods. It has a bit of the Royal Oud vibe but I wouldn’t say they’re similar; Creed’s is a bit sweeter and spicier in my opinion. I love the elegant darkness of Bois Mystique which I assume comes from the cardamomo that my nose picks up immediately. I think it needs to mature in the bottle once opened as the performance is very low right now. I’ve had it for a few weeks and it probably needs more time.

  • In the opening it has quite a resemblance to the fresh part of Fougère Royale—light and transparent. In the heart it reminded me a lot of Montale’s Vetiver Patchouli just more natural and balanced as if Montale’s version was a Lattafa-style clone of Houbigant’s. After an hour and a half the dry-down is a huge reminder of Creed’s Royal Oud. I like all three DNA profiles but none of them conquered me in their original perfumes and even less so in this very discreet progression. It’s a good perfume but it reminds me too much of other creations which detracts from its originality. Plus its performance is average for this type of scent and price. I liked it but I wouldn’t buy it. Cheers.

  • If you’ve read the other mostly unanimous reviews I don’t have much more to add. I agree with everything. It’s a masterpiece of a woody scent with a central woody skeleton harmoniously blended with lots of spiced incense and amber. It creates a classic masculine aroma that’s innovative enough to appeal to everyone while remaining timeless. This is a hit no matter how you look at it.

  • Aside from that black olive opening that lasts only a couple of minutes I absolutely love the rest. The olivey top note fades quickly giving way to citrus and a lot of spice. That spicy note dominates the entire evolution of the fragrance shifting subtly as time goes on. Then comes the iris—neither greasy nor overly bright just right in the middle—and paired with vetiver it creates an elegant vibe without being heavy. It works well for the office or formal events even if that’s not its natural habitat. It’s that kind of fragrance that moves well: discreet but with a mature personality never overdoing it. The woody vetiver base adds masculinity. It’s very wearable and versatile though it gets too dense in the heat. I’m not completely smitten; what I enjoy most is the delicious iris. The rest adds polish but it doesn’t dazzle me. If I liked it I wouldn’t buy it. The longevity is decent about 6 hours which is perfect for a wardrobe staple for days when you don’t want to be the center of attention.
