Oud Aquilaria by Omanluxury is an olfactory fragrance for men and women. Launched in 2020, the nose behind this composition is Dominique Ropion. Inevitably, Promise comes to mind—nearly identical notes and the same perfumer. I imagine Frederic Malle isn’t thrilled, since OA is more affordable and competes head-on in quality. They’re like twin sisters, but OA is tasty, refined, and elegant. The green apple gives me a hint of Asturian cider, and the rose-oud combo looks luxurious without any fecal notes. It’s fairly linear but evolves in nuances and lasts forever. Two days after showering, I could still smell it. Performance from another era! It even makes more sense than a designer scent. I think this will be one of the most hyped perfumes in a long time. Au revoir.
Absolutely spectacular! A fragrance for all seasons. Given its performance, it’s almost impossible to finish the bottle. Highly recommended.
A exquisite fragrance with the best quality-to-price ratio on the market. Lots of apple, rose, and a very elegant, wearable oud. The entire OmanLuxury line is spectacular. Quality/price rating: 10/10.
I bought Promise and decided to grab Oud Aquilaria blindly for the price. At first, I smelled Promise, but then things changed: it’s an acid green apple bomb with lots of clove. The dry down has a shy patchouli, but that’s about it. It only resembles Promise in the opening; the base is very boring and monolithic. It reminds me more of Calvin Klein Eternity. Nice scent, but flat. If you’re looking for a cheap Promise, save your money and buy the original.
Sea is my signature fragrance, a scent I feel connected to. It’s versatile, opening with exquisite apple, adding roses, and holding up with oud. From niche perfumerie, Oud Aquilaria is an all-rounder lasting over 8 hours and projecting more than 4. Blind buy rating: 10/10.
Tried both, Oud Aquilaria and Promise. While I prefer Promise for its dirtier, more interesting vibe, the one I chose is Ropion’s ‘autocopy.’ Oud Aquilaria smells like cider and lasts longer on my skin, playing with clove to replace the cypriol and becoming more luminous. Both have that fermented apple-with-rose accord I’m looking for, but Promise’s nuances don’t justify paying double.
I’m going to get pelted with stones, bricks, spears, and arrows, but comparing this perfume to Promise… I’ve tested both for several days, and while they’re similar at first, after that initial period, the difference in quality, longevity, and projection becomes obvious, even if you’re not experienced. Aquilaria is a well-constructed beast, but it’s synthetic and sharper than Promise; to me, it feels much more refined and elegant. As for value? It depends on your expectations, budget, and taste, having tried both.
Let’s see… I’m going to get stones, bricks, lances, and arrows thrown at me for comparing this perfume to Promise… well. I’ve been able to compare them both for several days, and while they are very similar at first, after this period, the difference in quality, longevity, and projection between the two becomes noticeable. Aquilaria is a well-constructed masterpiece, but much more synthetic and sharp than Promise; for me, it’s much more refined and elegant. What about the quality-to-price ratio? It depends on expectations, budget, and each person’s taste, having tried both.
It’s not Promise, obviously. But how good it is, keeping points of contact with the other. It starts green, fresh and spicy, already buzzing; you can feel the apple adding sweetness throughout the development, and of course, the rose and oud are the stars that give it class and notoriety. I see the opening as brighter and sharper; as it dries, some notes disappear and the scent gains harmony, where the proposal stops being just rose + oud. With a patchouli base and something resinous. I perceive it as an exceptional option for cold days and formal occasions. It carries you on its own. Even not being a rose fan, there’s great work here. And I repeat, Promise is better, but it’s certainly not a bad scent. Plus, it performs and projects very well, lasting beyond 6-7 hours with good projection. The price is fair.
It’s not Promise, but it’s really good. It hits some familiar notes with a fresh, spicy green opening that’s already buzzing; the apple adds sweetness as it develops, while rose and oud take the lead, giving it a nice polish. The dry down is bright and sharp, then some notes fade away to reveal more harmony, leaving basically rose + oud with a patchouli and resinous base. I see it as exceptional for cold days and formal occasions—it carries you all on its own. Even though I’m not a rose fan, the execution here is great. Reiterating: Promise is better, but this isn’t a bad scent. Plus, it lasts and projects really well, easily past 6-7 hours with great sillage. The price is fair.
I don’t like the opening at all; if you want to smell like a barrel of cider, this is a good option. After 1-2 hours, it softens and leaves a rich rose-oud scent (for those who like rose, I understand it will be a good choice). In short, it’s not for me.
The opening doesn’t work for me; if you’re looking for a barrel of cider, this is it. After 1-2 hours, it softens and leaves a lovely rose-oud trail (if you like rose, this is your cup of tea). In short, it’s not for me.
It just didn’t convince me. It’s very similar to Promise, which already has those forced and synthetic touches, but here I feel them even more strongly. Longevity is as long as you want. If you put it on your clothes and forget where your house is for 5 days… for 5 days you’ll probably be smelling it. Sometimes it feels like a race, and people take pride in being heard two floors up or three streets down… we’ll see perfumes that last weeks, haha.
I bought several decants of this brand and was impressed by the quality of Zafar and Oud Aquilaria. The latter, in particular, has a great scent, potent at the start, then softens and lasts forever. Here, the price-to-quality ratio is 100%; it’s worth every penny. A perfume with great performance and longevity. One of my go-to gift options; I see it as more unisex/masculine. Masterpiece.
Mithrandir gave me the chance to try this proposal. I don’t know Promise so I can’t compare, but does anyone else think it reminds them of Interlude Man? It’s even easier to wear and friendlier. For some, these scents are nightmares and malicious chimeras; for others, they’re something beautifully abstract with inherent magic. It’s important to have experience in perfumery to truly appreciate it. The top note is vigorous: it smells fresh, green with green apples, herbal with rosemary, sage, clove, and a spicy touch; upon spraying, it sticks and transforms into a second skin of smoke and spices (in this phase, it reminds me of Amouage). The heart releases floral effluvia, like sailing a sea of rose petals. The base is subtle, oriental thanks to a soft and pleasant oud, wonderful woods, creamy and warm. It’s not a daily or conventional scent, nor for an inexperienced nose; it can be dismissed immediately. If it were a bit deeper, I would have been thrilled; still, it seems like a very good option for fans of this range.
Hi everyone, and a special shoutout to @jerry drake. Dear Jerry, you can’t stop yourself from checking out Promise; that’s where you’ll find the depth you were missing in Oud Aquilaria thanks to the castoreum note. These are TWO masterpieces, not redundant ones, both worthy of a beautiful collection. OA is friendlier without that animal note; Promise is for those who love the gems of perfumery. OA is a safe blind buy if you like perfumes that make a statement, though I could have bought Promise blind and never regretted it. If you want to see greater similarities, go for SERENITY, the older brother of OA, you’ll go crazy. OMÁNLUXURY deserves the laurels that other houses with less merit and synthetics get. Along with the two mentioned, check out Royal Incense, Wanderlust, and keep researching. I’m dying to smell Khanjar, Angham, Dejan, etc. Amouage and Oman are my top two picks for price/creativity/quality ratio. Listen to me, Jerry, at the very least grab a decant and you’ll be EMOTIONAL. Hahaha. Greetings from Argentina.
It smells good, but generally, it didn’t convince me; on my skin, the wood note is way too prominent. I see it as a very mature fragrance, for someone over 50. Performance is average. I think I’m getting tired of the rose+oud combo; they smell great but they all end up sounding too similar, and I never find a moment to wear them. I’ll stop trying perfumes in this style; it’s starting to feel like a waste of time. By the way, I tried Sohan by Penhaligon’s yesterday and liked it much more than this Oud Aquilaria. That’s my recommendation if anyone is feeling adventurous.
This is the kind of masterpiece everyone loves but I just can’t quite appreciate. It makes me angry. It’s like going to a contemporary art museum, staring at a weird painting for a bit, and seeing people with their mouths open. That’s exactly what happens with Oud Aquilaria. At first, it smells just like Promise from FM. Maybe there are nuances, I won’t deny it, but I haven’t given it enough time or attention to find them. I’ve smelled both, and they seem identical to me. And in both cases, I don’t get the picture. I can’t say they’re bad perfumes; I understand their complexity and quality, I just don’t like the final blend. It smells old, closed off, like a wooden house in the forest that’s been shut for decades. I don’t like it at all.
This kind of ‘art for everyone’ that I just can’t appreciate makes me furious. It’s like being in a contemporary art museum, staring at a weird painting while everyone else is gaping in awe. Oud Aquilaria does the same thing to me. It smells old, closed-in, like a wooden cabin in the forest that hasn’t been opened in years. Maybe there are nuances I missed because I wasn’t paying attention, but I’ve smelled both and they seem identical to me. I don’t get the picture, and I can’t say they’re bad perfumes; I understand their complexity and quality, I just don’t like the final blend.
Fresh, bright, and herbal opening with a spicy twist; the sweet apple stands out against rosemary and clove, that last bit being a bit sharp and not really my thing. It settles quickly: the apple balances fresh and sweet, while the rosemary and clove fade into a subtle wood note. Then the rose kicks in, creating a rose-oud combo that’s way fresher and brighter than usual. On my skin, Oud Aquilaria always keeps its brightness, with apple and rosemary dominating over a soft wood and rose base. It reminds me of Promise by FM: both have that juicy green apple and rosemary, but Promise is more intense, dry, and realistic, with a cyperus bomb that evokes dark green and wet wood. Promise is pricier but has more nuances and quality, truly a work of art; OA is lighter, brighter, and fades away more as it dries. A good perfume to get started with, but Promise is superior. “A decaf’d Promise and more versatile” – Scent: 7.5 – Longevity: 7.5 – Projection: 7.5 – Versatility: 8.5
