I picked this up in the 90s to try something different from my usual classic, but in the end, I went back to my safe bet because this one didn’t quite convince me.
A classic that rewards those who know how to see beauty. Massimo condenses the past, present, and future into a bottle. It’s a classic structure, but with a blend and proportions that keep it at the top: an elegant old-school masculine with a balsamic, woody, and spicy base. It’s a safe haven, fresh and clean, yet with touches of aniseed tarragon and thyme that pair beautifully with excellent spicy cinnamon. The floral heart of geranium and cardamom is bright, while abundant sandalwood and cedar anchor the base. Although it’s from its era, Massimo escapes the outdated to enter the eternal because it doesn’t overdo the herbs or stick solely to the barbershop image; it’s a perfect hybrid with forest notes. Notable in its vintage version (though the house plans a new one), it’s not for teenagers or overly sophisticated noses.
I miss you, Massimo. You accompanied me through my early youth. Now I’m seeking more ‘exquisite’ tastes, but you smell better than many current perfumes, and I’d love to have a bottle to remember those nostalgic days. You have that green scent of freshly cut grass (alongside Boston) that few surpass in your price range. Due to my sentimental bond and on its own merits, the price-scent-performance ratio is excellent. Although it’s recognizable, it doesn’t smell like anything today, which gives it an air of exclusivity if you can find it. P.S.: In November 2020, I managed to get a glass bottle, not a spray, so one of the first ones, and I reclaimed part of those years. Au revoir.
What a great perfume for the price. I grabbed the EDT and the 100ml aftershave at an outlet, both for 7€. The opening is orange and warm, like a hug. Then it settles into a pleasant herbal base thanks to the mint. It’s not as herbal as Paco Rabanne Pour Homme, Loewe Essence, or Polo Green, which don’t suit many (but they do me). Quite the opposite, it has a warmth those others lack. Longevity matches the price, great sillage, and perfect for summer. If I find it, I’ll take several… it has a certain addictive quality.
I love it; it’s warm and elegant. It passes for a much more expensive cologne. If it lasted longer, it would be fantastic.
