It needs to be smelled, but initially, the olfactory pyramid seems boring, not because it’s minimalist, but because the notes are so usual. Still, Issey Miyake has fabulous and long-lasting fragrances. I’ll keep an eye out to try it.
Smelled it yesterday at Druni. It reminded me a lot of John Varvatos Artisan Blu, but that only happens about five minutes after spraying it.
Tried it a few hours ago and personally, I like it a lot. It’s quite a masculine lavender due to the woody touch. Impossible to go wrong with this fragrance; 99% of people who smell it will like it. As an office perfume, it hits all the marks: clean, gentlemanly, slightly mature, and not annoying. What doesn’t quite convince me is the performance, although this is just a first test. A few hours later, I can only smell it right on my skin. Anyway, I like it and I’ll buy it.
A fragrance that, in my opinion, has nothing to do with the Issey Miyake line. Here we have a soapy, clean scent, with a very aromatic base from the lavender, which isn’t sweet but rather ‘rough,’ floral, like when you smell the plant itself. If it stayed there, it would be a sure buy; the problem is that deep down, a note of bitter citrus appears (I don’t know if it’s grapefruit, ylang, bergamot, or whatever) that I dislike a bit. We’ll have to keep testing it.
Sorry, but I’d like this fragrance to be half as interesting as Armand Basi Homme, with more spice variety, a lilac touch, and talciness… This is much more basic: pepper, lavender, and little else. It’s a softened Sauvage, but for me, it lacks that soapy barber-shop twist that others like Prada Carbon have. Very simple to be memorable. And by the way, they aren’t as cheap as before anymore: €70 for 100ml, there are much more interesting fougères out there.
Don’t buy it, it’s not worth it. After two hours, the projection is non-existent, like it’s not there at all, and it doesn’t even last six hours. The scent isn’t bad, but the performance is a disaster.
Imagine Armand Basi Homme and classic Eau d’Issey having a wild night, and their meeting gives birth to a baby: Solar Lavender is that baby. The lavender and cedar touch is quite similar to Armand Basi Homme. Within the designer world, it doesn’t seem like a bad launch. It just arrived, so I can’t talk about longevity and projection yet, but it doesn’t look like a projection beast, which is normal for this type of aroma. For daily wear, signature scent, or office use, it’s perfect.
Very disappointed. I love Issey Miyake’s woody scents, but this is a rip-off in every sense. A very poor fragrance: zero projection, zero longevity, and a very basic aroma. It’s like the original diluted to 90% with a touch of lavender. It’s not bad, but it’s so simple with non-existent performance that I wonder what it’s for. It would be like a CK ONE with even less performance and three or four times the price. It wouldn’t even be worth it below €40, let alone the €60-70 they’re asking for. Tried it in four different perfumeries with several sprays and I can’t see anything positive to justify the purchase.
Imagine Armand Basi and classic L’Eau d’Issey having a baby: that’s what Solar Lavender smells like. It mixes lavender and cedar very similar to the first one. Among designer scents, it’s a decent launch. It’s not a beast in projection, but perfect for daily office wear or as your own signature scent. I just got it and can’t judge longevity yet, but the smell is exactly what I was looking for.
Don’t buy it; it’s not worth it. The projection is zero after two hours, and longevity is only six hours too. The scent is fine, but the performance is a disaster.
Best buy of 2024, a great signature fragrance for daily use. Remember it’s Japanese-cut, so its projection is more discreet, so it won’t bother those around you. For those looking for a bomb, this isn’t your fragrance. It has a super sparkling opening with a clean lavender scent; after drying down, cedar notes emerge, and in my opinion, I think it contains ambroxan for those marine notes I sense. Simple evolution, but quite pleasant and in line with Issey Miyake. Correct longevity; this signature line has us used to fragrances with moderate longevity; don’t expect super performance, nor short duration, I’d say about 5/6 hours of projection. Perfect daily perfume for this spring/summer that certainly won’t leave anyone indifferent. An 8/10 in my opinion.
Best purchase of 2024: a discreet Japanese signature that doesn’t bother anyone. It starts with a clean lavender spark and evolves into cedar and marine notes that smell like ambroxan. Longevity is moderate, around 5 or 6 hours, typical for Issey. Perfect for spring and summer; an 8/10 that leaves a mark without being a bomb.
Honestly, I expected much more after buying it blind. Imagine adding a bit of ambroxan, bluish dyes, and lavender to the original: voilá! The performance is just right for my skin: it blasts out like a hurricane and turns into a breeze in minutes. Must be my skin, I guess. I’ll only use it for sports or on hot days. A small disappointment.
L’Eau d’Issey pour Homme Solar Lavender is an aromatic, talc-like, and woody fragrance. Citrus opening, slightly earthy/mineral, and spicy. Over time, it reveals a lavender accord very similar to oils or talc; it’s noticeable, but it doesn’t behave like in fougères with strong herbals; here it smells more like lavender tea. After 2 hours, it settles into a woody and musky base. Solar Lavender can be used all year except winter; it lacks intensity in woods, it’s more for daytime use, perfect for spring, summer, and autumn. Relaxing aroma, for casual outings or personal enjoyment. Longevity is regular; on me, it lasted a maximum of 6 hours, and except for the first 30 minutes, it stays very close to the skin. The scent is very pleasant, I liked it a lot, but I think it falls short on performance; still, I recommend trying it and forming your own opinion on whether the purchase is worth it.
L’Eau d’Issey Solar Lavender smells like infused lavender, not harsh herbs; it’s fresh, mineral, and woody, perfect for spring and summer. The projection is soft, almost skin-close after half an hour, and it lasts about 6 hours. It’s a relaxing scent for daily wear, but it lacks a bit of punch for winter. I really liked it, though ultimately the decision is yours on whether it’s worth it.
Between using this perfume and using nothing, there’s no difference. It’s one of the worst blind buys I’ve ever made.
There’s no difference between wearing this perfume and wearing nothing. One of the worst blind buys I’ve ever made.
It doesn’t list yuzu as a note, but it smells very similar to the original Issey, just more muted. It doesn’t add much to the universe of flankers for this perfume. Rich aroma, but very just and scarce longevity.
Just tried this 10 mL sample they gave me and… what, does this only have pepper, lavender, and cedar? Haha, no joke, but come on, not even close. The original has a ton of notes, and this one is very, very similar to the original. Since I like the original, I like this one too, but that’s not good because it’s a letdown. I had a great impression with Le Sel I just bought, but… what? What was the idea? I don’t get it. It’s like putting a pinch of jam on a French omelet to see what happens. I wouldn’t buy it if you own the original because it will make you feel cheated. Lacking the original, it’s a decent and light proposal for hot days or after a shower when you get home. That lavender will relax and calm you down 😌. Anyway, a real slap in the face to Miyake with this one! 😠. Cheers! Tested with two sprays on skin. Fresh, mature, soapy, and ideal for daily wear but nothing more. The lavender is very noticeable and it smells like cheap fragrance to me. It doesn’t smell bad, but I see it for people over 40.
Leaving an opinion that might not align with the majority, but that’s what it’s about. It’s a great daily ally; leaves a clean scent that’s hard to find. I’m a lavender fanatic, and it’s noticeable here, though subtle—not too concentrated, but enough to blend freshness and naturalness. It projects an intimate aura, more close than expansive. In my case, it doesn’t leave much of a trail, but up close it’s clear. My girlfriend loved it, even though she recently wore JPG Paradise Garden, which is an absolute exquisite. It generates an indescribable sensation, as if you could taste it. Incredible! I consider it totally unisex.
Spoiler: @carloslopezz doesn’t improve its performance by even a little bit.
Comforting and clean lavender with that signature light yuzu touch typical of Miyake. Smells great, but the sillage and longevity are very poor, staying as a super personal and intimate scent.
Sure to be a hit for lavender fans, though the longevity is scarce. I’ll let it macerate for a few months. Unlisted fruity opening notes plus that bitter citrus from the L’Eau D’Issey DNA. The lavender is well-executed. Ideal for hot, daytime wear. EDIT 5 MONTHS LATER: no improvement after macerating. Still recommended for good weather and daily use, and it can be found on sale between 30 and 40 euros.
Spoiler alert: @carloslopezz doesn’t improve its performance at all.
