  • GIRLS CAN SAY ANYTHING by ZADIG & VOLTAIRE: nothing new on the front lines. It’s a ‘bookish fruity chypre’ the brand launched to keep its slice of the mass-market pie. Both the ad and the bottle target a youthful crowd that hasn’t known anything else in their lives (the last decade) but ultra-sweet, ultra-linear, and ultra-intrusive perfumes. I laugh when they water down chypres, fougères, aromatics, and orientals claiming we shouldn’t overwhelm or bother anyone today, yet they flood us with fruity chypres that are overwhelmingly dominant. This one starts like a flamethrower of sweet-floral-fruity intensity that pushes you back. It’s neither oriental nor fougère; it’s an Ultra-Sweet Fruity Floral. I don’t detect the peony, iris, or fern. I smell a very artificial floral molecule based on freesia, raspberry, and forest berries, seasoned with another equally artificial fruity note of peach, mango, and pear. The sugar reaches diabetic-coma levels with a hyperglycemia index sticking out of your ears, thanks to Ambroxan-based candies, vanilla, white musk, and a Willy Wonka-style red passion syrup extract. The sillage and longevity are enormous. I’d give anything for this to be a Givenchy Gentlemen or a Chanel pour Monsieur. This is what youth perfume means: sparkling, cheerful, carefree, and slightly rude. Suitable for that silly teenage age where you think you can say ‘Anything you want anywhere and anyway’, but then you realize that unless you’re a millionaire’s kid, you won’t be able to keep saying it for the rest of your life.

  • The opening is a powdery slap too powerful for my taste, a hit of iris that softens into a dusty aroma with a vanilla base where tonka is very present and a very musky dry down. I like it much less than its sister, Girls can Say Anything, which it reminds me of at times, especially as it dries down. Here we have a fragrance that’s heavier, slightly less sweet and cheerful than, although I like powdery perfumes, as this one is predominantly so, it doesn’t appeal to me much. It has soft sillage and lasts 4.5 hours on my skin, similar to Girls can Do Anything. I think they tried to add some maturity to the Girls can Do Anything concept in its creation, but the result seemed like a blurred and uninteresting perfume to me. Scent 4.5/10, Longevity 4.5/10, Sillage 6/10, Value 4/10, Versatility 6/10, Packaging 6.5/10. Would I buy it again? No, I didn’t buy it.

I really like this fragrance; it’s a very youthful scent but not in the mood of strawberry perfumes. It’s elegant youthfulness, though it recalls others a bit. It has notes that usually please almost everyone, especially a young audience, and the price… oof! Still, I think it’s good to make perfumes like this, ‘easy-to-please’ ones aimed at a younger public or those following a trend. Tastes vary, and there are as many tastes as there are people, but it’s a somewhat familiar scent (vanilla iris and powdery) and it’s expensive, clear as day, haha. It arrived at my hands via an exchange, and the truth is, when it runs out, I won’t restock it, much to my regret. There are more affordable options in the line. Lasts about 5 hours on my skin with good sillage. You can smell the perfume if you’re close, but it’s not a trail that turns heads as you walk. I like the design and the aroma; when I wear it, I enjoy it immensely and spend the day sniffing myself, but the price-to-value ratio makes me give a resounding no…

  • Love it! It’s youthful yet elegant, nothing like cheap strawberry scents. The notes are almost universally loved, especially by younger folks, and the price… oof! I appreciate that ‘easy-to-wear’ fragrances exist for following trends or younger tastes. But it’s a familiar scent (vanilla iris with a powdery touch) and pricey, haha. I got it through an exchange, and while I love wearing it and sniffing myself all day, I won’t be restocking it when it runs out, much to my dismay. There are cheaper options in the line. Lasts about 5 hours on my skin with good sillage: noticeable if you’re close, but doesn’t turn heads. I like the design and scent, but the price firmly closes the door on buying it again.
