Blind buy, guided by reviews, and very satisfying. Although I don’t usually wear the same perfume day after day, I’ve already worn this for three days :P. It opens with a sharp, vigorous citrus burst, like traditional cologne waters. As it dries down, it becomes a powdery citrus, like Insolence de Limon, or a refined Shalimar EDP for hot weather. It seems to mutate: sometimes it smells like makeup, sometimes like lemon meringue, or the green tablet from Heno de Pravia. After a few hours, it leaves a clean, enveloping vanilla that can last until the next day. Great performance for a simple ‘eau’:)
Ideal if you want to wear Shalimar but dislike the smoky vanilla tone of the dry down. If you prefer powdery or mossy notes, this is your alternative to avoid the heaviness of the original. It keeps that burst of citrus and resinous candy notes, but makes them more interesting thanks to an acidic, cool lime that teases the soapy side without falling into vulgarity. The development maintains that citrus, gourmand, and medicinal vibe of the first spray. Then vanilla and iris enter: it’s not artificial; it’s velvet-like with a powdery aftertaste and hints of amber and broom. At one point, it reminds me of Goutal’s Ambre Fetiche. It seems like a mix of Shalimar, a light Ambre Fetiche, and Versace Baby Blue Jeans, but without the disinfectant vibe of the latter. They share lime, tangerine, bergamot, vanilla, and iris. They’re cousins, but this one is more sparkling and resinous with better quality. Versace’s latest is basically a scented weed killer that’s hard to wear. Between flutes and whistles, a beautiful updated flanker: classic but not old, unisex, with body and luminosity. It deceives the ‘Eau’ label because it’s hardly water. Rumor has it the bottle without the base wins out due to a different formula. Longevity and trail are good.
Eau de Shalimar is in a league of its own; it’s not the classic version, nor does it belong to the Souffle line, and I think it’s actually better. I have a sample from the bottle without the base, one of the earliest batches. The opening has a strange, slightly acidic touch, but seconds later comes a sweet lemon dessert note, high quality with no messy modern mix. There’s style and finesse here. The pre-2018 Souffles come closest, with that pastry element (but not industrial—live a little, cavities and all). The 2018 Souffle is more floral and less sweet. The sensuality at the start pays homage to the original Shalimar, but then it turns very feminine, modern, and fluffy. Ideal for anyone wanting a current Shalimar with vintage execution. I absolutely loved it—a gourmand scent with style, distinguished, nothing vulgar. The trail on my skin is light, but on clothes, it’s acceptable. It’s not water; it’s a soft, silky, carnal vanilla oriental. Even the opening has a talc-citrus touch that later becomes comforting. Definitely worth smelling. Sample from Odette 🙂
If I had to pick one signature scent, it’s Guerlain. Today I’m wearing Eau de Shalimar, perfect for this chilly day, even though it’s from the spring collection meant for fresher weather. I stumbled upon it at my favorite perfumerie with no real expectations, and there it was—the hidden gem. Instant love, a refined and elegant aroma. It reminds me of Habit Rouge but fresher, and the Shalimar EDT but more spring-like. Notes of lime, bergamot, orange, jasmine, rose, vanilla, resin, and iris. On my skin, what I notice most is the vanilla with resin and iris; right after spraying, the citrus dominates. The trail is wide and lasts about 5 hours. For an ‘Eau’, it’s great. A solid 10 from Guerlain, as always.
