Tremendous fragrance, Dunhill Icon Absolute, quite masculine as my girlfriend says. You can wear it all day, but especially in winter or autumn. The citrus top note is pleasant, the heart with saffron adds a special touch, but the oud wood base takes all the recognition. In my opinion, the best thing is that it lasts a long time; in my case, until the next day.

  • I’m glad to see Western houses daring to tackle Arab fragrances and doing it well here. Icon Absolute has a powerful opening that might scare beginners: raw, dirty oud with a citrus and spicy touch that gives a humid sensation, damp wood, and almost rotten moss. I love it; it’s strange and original. Then that humidity disappears in seconds, giving way to very discreet flowers, rose and saffron, mixed with the oud to create a woody, spiced, and floral scent with tobacco nuances, very pretty, though this part is less original and resembles other market ouds with rose. I truly love the dry down: a mix of oud and leather with spicy tobacco and residual floral notes, semi-sweet and spicy wood with a light jasmine touch, absolutely beautiful. Performance is good but not exceptional, moderate in both longevity and projection. It lasted almost 6 hours on my skin and disappointed me a bit; I expected a beast after reading the previous review, but it’s fine, could be better. It’s for cold and temperate climates, for night, elegant and masculine, perfect for formal events, not for daily wear, that would be a waste. If you’re looking for elegant and beautiful oud, it’s highly recommended and of great quality, but to be honest, in Arab perfumery there are similar ones with better performance and lower prices, like Rasasi Dhanal Oudh Ruwah, very similar but with extraordinary performance for around 20€, so choose according to your wallet and needs; I still bet on Arab perfumery.

  • Love at first sniff. From the very first moment, it smells of saffron, oud, and leather with a hint of rose. Ideal for formal or semi-formal occasions. It evokes elegance without being heavy. Lasting power is acceptable (over 6 hours) with moderate projection that, with luck, reaches about 2 hours. Top-notch quality, but the price seems excessive to me.

Just look at and touch the bottle of this elegant nectar; it’s exactly like the fragrance. Like the whole Dunhill brand, it has good sillage and longevity; the high price is definitely well-justified. Top fragrance.

Just looking at and touching the bottle containing this elixir of elegance, it’s just like the fragrance… As with the entire Dunhill brand, it has good sillage and longevity, the high price is definitely well-justified. Top fragrance.

The saffron note (in both this perfume and Versace Man) gives me a certain feeling of disgust. It’s a super spicy, ultra-masculine, very sober and serious perfume. What makes a scent smell more masculine? Thanks to the perception of notably bitter, acidic, aged, and not-so-sweet notes. This Dunhill Absolute reminds me somewhat of a combination between Bvlgari Man in Black and Versace Man (the violet one). It also reminds me quite a bit of Montale’s Dark Aoud. I tried it once in a pharmacy and it got stuck in my jacket sleeve for several weeks (which surprised me, considering its bad reputation on forums and here). Finally, I bought it and concluded that: it’s not dense, but rather light and with little body. As for longevity, I’d say it’s moderate leaning towards weak, and as for projection, it’s rather soft.

The saffron note (like in Versace Man) makes me gag. It’s a super-spiced, ultra-masculine, sober, and serious fragrance. What makes it smell more masculine? Thanks to notably bitter, acidic, aged, and not-so-sweet notes. This Dunhill Absolute reminds me of a mix between Bvlgari Man in Black and Versace Man (the violet one), also Dark Aoud by Montale. I tried it at a pharmacy and it stained my jacket sleeve for weeks (surprising given its bad reputation on forums). Finally, I bought it and concluded: it’s not dense, but light and lacking body. Moderate longevity leaning weak and soft projection.

  • A perfume delight; maybe they don’t appreciate it because of the price or because it’s not popular, but it speaks for itself: a spectacular masculine aroma. The oud with roses looks almost perfect; maybe it’s not top-tier oud, but the blend is incredible. I recommend at least smelling and testing it. The bottle is very beautiful and has great texture, but the cylindrical shape and weight make it uncomfortable for travel.

Strong opening with oud and leather dominating everything, with a timid pepper note appearing at the 10-minute mark. I disagree with the oud/rose combo; for that, I prefer Mauboussin Cristal Oud, where the rose lasts. Here, the rose appears timidly in the dry-down, once the oud has mellowed. Saffron softens that strong oud, and the leather is animalic—give it a try. Mediocre longevity for the price: the opening is impressive with a great trail, but that’s it. What do I salvage? The semi-rotten oud with unaged leather, animalic, with a faint reminiscence of Kouros. For half the price, I could get a Jacques Bogart Oud Edition or an Exciting Venezia Oud Touch. I only use this Dunhill to spritz before bed. I prefer the Desiree line for longevity, not originality. Separate point: the bottle is beautiful.

Don’t buy it, spend the money on anything else because buying it is throwing money away. I made the mistake of buying it on sale and because it’s one of those perfumes that for some reason you idealize. It only has an opening. A few minutes later, the scent disappears, not because it fades, sweetens, or becomes skin-scent, nothing like that. The scent just goes, disappears as if it never existed. When you spray it, your reaction is very positive, even that wood combo (would be a crime to call it oud) with rose could remind you of Promise by Frédéric Malle, but it’s all an illusion. It’s a magic perfume in the style of the Houdini razor, I don’t know how, but it disappears without leaving a trace, not even on clothes. I hate wasting money, and this has cost me a real letdown. Doesn’t matter if it’s on sale, and if you buy it because the bottle is pretty, better buy a limited edition Coca-Cola bottle, which are true classics, and you’ll get more out of it. It’s the perfume in my collection that I regret buying the most, and it’s not even worth it as a room freshener.

Don’t buy it, spend your money on something else. I made the mistake of buying it on sale and idealizing it. It has zero sillage. Within minutes, the scent disappears; it doesn’t settle or linger on the skin, it vanishes as if it never existed. Right after spraying, the reaction is positive; that wood combo (would be a crime to call it oud) with rose might remind you of Promise by Frédéric Malle, but it’s an illusion. It’s magical like the Houdini cologne: it disappears without leaving a trace, not even on clothing. I hate wasting money; this was a real letdown. Doesn’t matter if it’s on sale or the bottle is pretty, a limited edition Coke in a classic bottle is more worthwhile. It’s the biggest regret in my collection; it’s not even worth using as a room freshener.

  • Dunhill Icon Absolute (I’ve read it’s discontinued) is one of those perfumes with an oriental-Arabic imprint that imitate the oud note in a very synthetic way. But at least they try, which is remarkable for a Western house. The result is an intriguing scent, with flashes I’d even say unisex-masculine despite the masculine potency format they wanted to give it. Beyond the synthetic notes, you can tell it’s a fragrance made with quality. Pepper, saffron, and as a previous comment says: the recreative note of semi-rotten oud. I don’t see it as too versatile in its use. It’s one of those rare perfumes that serve more to complete a collection or keep for personal enjoyment. The Icon Racing (Invictus vibe) and the Icon Elite (vetiver vibe) are much more usable. Another point to highlight is that while the opening seems like a super bomb, its performance is moderate to low, like all Dunhill perfumes. Although maybe I should be grateful that its performance leans towards soft because a strong and long-lasting scent like this doesn’t suit me at all. Should I recommend it? Only for collectors. To complete the Dunhill Icon collection and as an olfactory experience to learn a bit more about this class of perfumes inspired by the mysterious, luxurious, and almost inaccessible oud wood.

  • Dunhill Icon Absolute (rumored discontinued) is an oriental-arabesque that synthetically mimics oud. At least they try, which is remarkable for a Western house. Intriguing aroma, with distinct unisex-masculine notes despite the masculine bottle. Beyond the synthetic aspect, quality shines through: pepper, saffron, and that playful semi-rotten oud. It’s not versatile; better suited for collection or personal enjoyment. Icon Racing (Invictus vibes) and Icon Elite (vetiver vibes) are more wearable. Although the opening is a bomb, the performance is moderate-to-low, typical of Dunhill. Maybe I appreciate it being soft because I don’t like strong, long-lasting scents. Recommended? Only for collectors wanting to complete the Icon line and try this mysterious, luxurious wood.

  • BassoProfumo

I already reviewed its weak performance; on my skin it was almost imperceptible. But yesterday my brother wore it, and it was incredible how much he could smell it. I don’t know what to conclude: it didn’t work on me, but these contradictory and paradoxical results seem strange to me.

  • It’s garbage. I bought it, used it once, and threw it away because of its disgusting smell. I don’t see anything resembling Tom Ford’s Oud Wood.

  • It’s trash. I bought it and only wore it once before throwing it away because of the disgusting smell. I don’t see anything similar to Tom Ford’s Oud Wood.

The longevity is trash. But don’t worry, that’s not the only limitation of Philipp Plein with this scent; the longevity is exactly how it’s supposed to be.

Bad opening: the semi-rotten synthetic oud doesn’t get neutralized by the bergamot and smells awful at first. Over time it mellows and becomes more tolerable, but it clings to the skin, lacks projection, and fades into insignificance. Rating: 3

  • JvlivsCaesar2912

It smells bad with that synthetic oud that smells like rotting wood, and the bergamot doesn’t fix it; it’s a disaster at first. Over time, the oud calms down and you can wear it longer, but it clings to the skin, lacks projection, and becomes boring. Rating: 3/10
