Heavy, mature, fine, and elegant perfume. The Shelby by Versace. Very good proposal if you’re over 30: it’s dense, ideal for night outings and cold climates. The opening is heavy, with marked cardamom and oud; it evolves into a stable-like aroma, but not unpleasant. It’s very well crafted in the oud chords, with similarity to Tom Ford Oud Wood. Due to its clear aroma, it’s niche, just like Dunhill Icon Absolute; these three go hand in hand. 100% masculine. Without a doubt, if you identify with these uses and personality, you’ll love it.

  • Ozymandias

One word: elegance. A civilized, elegant oud, a class act, a gentleman oud that dialogues with the other notes, far from the wild and primitive of Tom Ford. I love it. I disagree that it’s a night scent; it’s very enveloping, it wraps you up and generates confidence. In nighttime use it could be seductive, but it’s perfect for daytime. Ideal for a stylish older gentleman. The dry down is wonderful with the sweetness of patchouli. The only flaw is that the trail doesn’t pass 3 hours; it falls short, although on skin it lasts all night. Otherwise, it’s close to a 10.

  • Mr. Baskerville

Well formulated, pleasant, elegant, civilized but… complacent. The opening has a hint of strength with bitter citrus and spice that fades quickly as the alcohol dissipates. The development is excellent, with aromas coming and going over a cushion of patchouli and solid wood. That wood lets you feel a very faint dirty oud aroma at the end, when, after dying out with dramatic slowness, it passes without a trace. I’m not surprised it’s liked; although I don’t find mystery or sex appeal in it, it has the means to stimulate them in those who seek them. It’s a good investment I doubt will disappoint anyone. Its complacency isn’t frivolous; it’s calm, tamed, and shows good manners. Personally, I think it’s a good purchase. Moderate longevity and projection, but good quality/price ratio. Recommend trying it.

  • For the price, the quality is excellent. The oud note is very well crafted. Moderate longevity, about 5 hours. It doesn’t project much, but it has gotten me several compliments. It adds elegance and makes you feel sophisticated. The entire Versace line is good: Dylan Blue and Pour Homme are excellent for different occasions. Don’t buy blind.

  • Smells very good and elegant, but it suffers from Croxatto. After 30 minutes, it becomes a scent stuck to the skin with zero projection, though it’s still detectable beyond 6 hours. Essential to apply it on clothes, although it won’t project well either. I don’t analyze the notes because it’s a pity its lack of projection; it smells adorable and of good quality. Perhaps that’s why I’m so annoyed: a true ‘want but can’t’ that isn’t worth spending money on. Pity.

  • Alejomorales03

I don’t know, but unlike what everyone says, I can still detect it on my skin after 9 hours and the projection is decent.

  • Finally arrived after impatiently waiting for its oud notes and the mystery it promises. I’m more than satisfied; it smells fantastic. It’s a gem, a gentleman among so many generic flankers today. I reserve it for formal or intimate occasions. It’s not that frantic trail of a Paco Rabanne or a chemical Carolina Herrera… this is organic, old-school. Opening: fascinating bitter orange, neroli, then soft warm pepper. The oud appears magically and mysteriously from the first instant, accompanied by incense, saffron, and leatherwood. Pleasant patchouli in the base. It’s a niche scent; I don’t recommend buying blind or to seek applause (for that, go with a Dior Sauvage). For me, it’s a resounding 10/10. After a full day (9 AM to 9 PM), the waves continue and it lingers on clothes. Excellent fixation, different from other opinions. Update 01/03/2022: it stays on clothes for weeks, even after washing.

  • Great Versace perfume, pity it requires blind buying. If you want to try it first, buy the Esenza equivalent, which is a good match. They say it doesn’t last or project, but on me it lasts over 8 hours in cold weather. Projection is short and very intimate; it’s not a Croxatto, not skin-scented, but the trail is moderate. Ideal for the office; it smells similar to Oud Wood and the classic M7, good for dressing up or going out, though there are better options. It smells clean. I haven’t received compliments; for me, it’s the alter ego of Dylan Blue (the one that always gets applause) and with Oud Noir I go unnoticed due to lack of projection. Versace delivering great quality at a moderate price.

  • Note: don’t buy this expecting compliments. The opening is powerful; the oud is noticeable. The only downside is longevity and projection: about 4 hours on skin and barely 2 hours of trail. I wore it on a cloudy day; I’ll try it at night to see if it improves.

  • I just tried it in the store even though it’s discontinued. It definitely smells like Tom Ford Oud Wood but softer and more wearable. If you like that fragrance, this Oud Noir will be a huge hit.

  • JCDUQUE1111

What a great perfume!! I bought it because people say it smells like Tom Ford Oud Wood; I own that one and like it, but at this price, I treat it like a baby. This Versace Pour Homme Noir feels a bit fresher when dry down compared to TFOW, with a spicier, more wearable touch. TFOW, despite having a reputation for the easiest, soapier oud, is still a niche scent with high fixation, and that opening oud is a bit strong. As for performance, let’s say it’s average; projection and longevity are good, but don’t expect it to linger 8 to 9 hours away from you.

  • Magalydiaz

A beautiful scent with its own identity; it doesn’t project much but leaves a subtle, exquisite trail. I found it recently, one of the last units before it disappears, and I went for it immediately 😍

  • Danielo23

When you smell something high-quality, you feel it instantly, and this perfume oozes quality with its balance and notes. It’s a rich, addictive fragrance that I have to avoid wearing too much because it’s discontinued and needs careful dosing. For me, it’s very versatile, featuring an easy-to-wear oud that shines on special occasions. It’s noticeable at close range and provokes subtle reactions due to its subtlety, creating a deep surprise. It’s the perfume that has given me the most indirect compliments (people commenting days later that they loved it). Great performance, and even though the price went up, it’s still worth it. A true gem.

  • IvanPerfumista

You can really smell the orange, cardamom, and oud. I compared it side-by-side with Creed’s Royal Oud today, and the difference isn’t huge. Given the price of this one, I think it’s a steal. Honestly, it feels more youthful than Creed’s and much more sensual. I love it! It’s on my wishlist. 10/10.

  • sergiobinetti

I’ve been wearing this for months and absolutely love it. At first, it smells peppery and slightly spicy, but then the bitter orange and oud come through with a subtle sweetness that isn’t cloying. I’d define it as woody and spicy. It’s versatile enough for day and night wear, not provocative, and everyone seems to like it. The downside is that it’s discontinued and hard to find, so I treat it like precious treasure. It doesn’t have massive projection, but it lasts 8 to 9 hours close to the skin, projecting only for the first two. It’s not a beast, just moderate. I recommend it if you want to try oud—it’s super enjoyable. I wouldn’t wear it in summer except on cool nights, but it’s perfect for autumn or winter.

  • If you’re new to perfumes, buy it without hesitation; if you’re an experienced collector, don’t get your hopes up too high.

  • Versace Oud Noir is a woody, spiced, leathery, and balsamic fragrance. Its opening is slightly citrusy and spiced, but the citrus lasts less than 10 minutes, leaving behind a spicy scent of cardamom and saffron. As time passes, a controlled woody oud accord becomes noticeable beneath the spices, along with a balsamic and incense-like element. At times, I seemed to detect a leathery accord, although leather isn’t listed in the notes, unless Leatherwood is responsible for that. This fragrance maintains a great resemblance to its already discontinued sibling, Versace Man, as they handle almost the same spices; the difference is that Versace Man leans towards tobacco, while Oud Noir focuses on oud as its name suggests. It also carries some memories of Tom Ford’s Oud Wood, with which it is frequently compared. This fragrance is ideal for use on cool days or night outings, in seasons like early spring, autumn, and winter, for special or formal situations, etc. Regarding skin longevity, it’s good, lasting close to 10 hours; the first two hours are noticeable around the wearer, then it fades a bit, but it maintains good presence. Now that I’ve discovered this fragrance and realized how close it is to Versace Man, I have mixed feelings: on one hand, sad because they stole my nearly new bottle of Versace Man, which I had barely started using, and on the other, happy to see there’s a fragrance I can use as a substitute (although it’s also becoming harder to find).

  • I don’t find anything similar to Oud Wood, which is my favorite perfume… I’ve had it for a year and have never found any similarities.

  • molletmod.73

Discontinued and hyped up ridiculously. Paying almost 100 bucks on Notino or the gray market for this seems like a waste of money. It smells good, but the longevity and projection are very moderate. If you’re obsessed with this soft oud scent, you can pick up Tom Ford’s Oud Wood in 50ml for 135 bucks, a bit more than this Versace, and the issue is solved. And if you don’t want to spend that much or don’t have the cash, look for some cheap clones; there are plenty out there that are quite good, and you’re good to go.

  • naso_en_ciernes

In summary, a soft oud aroma with spiced citrus. It’s original, exploring another vibe of non-conventional oud perfumes, certainly not the most intense or challenging ones. I see it as more masculine, mature, and informal; daytime use, neither for cold nor extreme heat. I don’t know if they toned it down a bit, but the longevity is conventional for an EDT, with low to very moderate projection depending on the number of sprays or if applied to clothes. I recommend trying it, as it’s not a mass-market scent, but it will catch the attention of curious noses. I think it’s highly recommended for oud lovers to give it a sniff before it becomes even harder to find and without paying a fortune (I suppose it’s no longer produced, though the official website hasn’t confirmed it). Versace seems to have taken a risk by launching something that wasn’t quite mainstream, trying to include the oud note in their repertoire, and it seems they succeeded.

  • I bought this fragrance blind without high expectations and was absolutely surprised. It’s a delicious oud, discreet but which, combined with the other notes, manages to impose a lot of character. Personally, I find it more similar to Tuscan Leather than to Oud Wood, especially in the opening (I imagine it’s the saffron). Without a doubt, I would recommend it without a second thought. I see it more for cool climates and evenings, but if you’re willing to take a risk, it could be a good signature scent (except in high temperatures; I wouldn’t recommend it above 30°C).

  • Diegolocoperfumero

To be honest, it has an air of Tom Ford’s Oud Wood, but they aren’t the same. The oud is similar, but Tom Ford’s has spicier notes and a more citrusy opening. It’s pure class, although Oud Wood has superior quality, keep in mind that Oud Noir holds its own. The oud doesn’t feel synthetic, but for me, the biggest difference is how sensual and creamy the cardamomo adds. Projection is good, not brutal, at least on me, with decent longevity and even better on clothes. For me, it’s the best Versace fragrance right now, but don’t buy blindly; smell it first.

  • RoswellSS

Love at first sniff; it feels like a luxury fragrance for special occasions, making you feel unique and empowered. To connoisseurs, it might seem typical, similar to Tom Ford’s Oud Wood, and although the oud is synthetic, it makes a huge impact on the general public. I think it suits all ages, but for daily wear, I recommend it for those over 30. The fragrance invites you to wear it all the time, just be careful not to spray more than 5 or 7 times in the heat because it can become suffocating. I’ll keep this as my signature scent; it’s just a matter of learning where to apply it based on temperature so you don’t overwhelm yourself or others. If it’s hot, avoid the neck and aim for the nape of the neck, forearms, and shoulders under the clothing. Believe me, you’ll want people to remember you by this scent, and you’ll succeed because nobody smells like this among the crowd.

  • Edward2024

Thanks to fragrances like this, we feel inspired to discover bolder scents and explore the niche world. Here we have a charming, sophisticated, and classy aroma. A wonderful entry point for anyone wanting to dive into the oud note.

  • This is a gentleman’s perfume… Elegant, it doesn’t go unnoticed but doesn’t overwhelm either; it’s simply extraordinary. A scent that commands attention and is very masculine, nothing unisex.

  • Oscar Segovia

What a beautiful perfume Versace has released this time, totally different from what they usually offer. It’s a noble, elegant, and refined scent. It does contain synthetic oud, but of very high quality; the saffron adds a lovely powdery touch. Performance is like a good EDP, lasting 7 to 8 hours, with a trail that extends well beyond the arm.

  • Citrus and oud wood aroma (necessary to try before buying). Longevity: 6 hours. Projection: noticeable for two and a half hours, then until the fifth hour it’s a personal bubble. Sillage is moderate. I spray 5 times indoors and 7 or 8 outdoors. Reapply at 5 hours. Climate: cold to temperate. Uses: formal, dates, elegant. It’s elegance and seduction in a bottle. For me, what stands out most is the pepper, bitter orange, saffron, and oud; the latter is very friendly for beginners. Starting from the first hour, it becomes much friendlier, perceived as sweet and woody. It performs well; it doesn’t stand out but it doesn’t fail either; the first hour is the most intense and challenging if you’re not used to it, but believe me, once your nose gets used to it, it’s super enjoyable. Overall, I get about 8 hours, with the last two hours close to the skin. Ideal for temperate and cold climates; I don’t see it for extreme heat. I’ve received more compliments from women than from men; the ladies described it as sensual, including my partner. I’m not saying people stopped me on the street, but the women in my circle, who know about perfumes, gave their opinion confidently. It’s a serious scent, ideal for dates or formal meetings, work, or family events, elegant occasions. I don’t see it as casual, relaxed, or for the gym. It’s a very good option if you’re looking for formality and seduction. I’ve read it’s discontinued; I bought it in September 2024 with a 2022 batch, so it could be the next unicorn. It’s still available, but at crazy prices (over $100), and that’s why I think it’s not worth it. I was lucky to take advantage of a discount at a department store and got it for about $60, a reasonable figure for this perfume monster. If you’re interested and the planets align to get it at a good price, don’t hesitate.

  • My batch 3081B, manufactured in March 2023, is already almost two years old. It reminds me of Encre Noire and Shades Wood by Armaf, but it’s more versatile, with a spark and charm. It’s like an excellent mix and much more wearable. It’s my first Versace and I have no regrets. It’s elegant; people don’t ask much, just which perfume you’re wearing. It’s not a beast in projection or longevity, but what it lasts is enough to smell good in formal situations. I don’t see it for dates, but for adult gatherings, like salons, weddings, or the office, lasting an hour or more. Everyone uses it as they please; I tried it for the grocery store. Its six hours performed very well. They say it’s discontinued; I bought it in Laredo, Texas, at the Versailles perfume shop in the Convento, at an accessible price, under $100, and they still had stock. All of this is my olfactory experience. Hope it helps. Greetings.

  • What an exquisite, elegant, and seductive fragrance. I have several Versace perfumes in my collection, but this Oud Noir has become my crown jewel.

  • I’m from Argentina and watch out, this perfume actually arrived here. I’m literally the envy of my perfumer friends, who told me it would never reach the country. I got it at the same price as a 100ml Eros. The aroma surprised me: I never imagined Versace could do this; it moves far away from their fresh, summery DNA. It comes out strong with citrus, but in seconds the oud and incense take over, making it elegant and sensual. It’s not for everyone because of the oud; it’s a trade-off: you love it or you hate it. But if it weren’t discontinued, it would be perfect for starting with oud; it’s not invasive, gives a smoky touch to stand out, and the incense closes with sensuality. In my opinion, it leans more toward Bvlgari’s Man in Black (except they swap tobacco for oud). It has that ‘important man’ vibe that makes you stand out, for better or worse. If you’re not scared of oud, it’s a scent to make a statement.

  • I bought it without knowing what was going to happen, looking for something to start me in the world of oud. I love it: it’s a soft oud, nothing as aggressive as Terre d’Hermès. You can smell the bitter orange and the incense; they give it a super elegant touch. Ideal for dressing up and making a statement, even as a personal signature.

  • Very much in the line of Tom Ford’s Oud Wood… I’d been looking for something like this for a while because I read it was similar to Versace Man (which I love), but it’s not the same at first. Right out of the bottle, it smells identical to Oud Wood, until I sniff it to confirm. It smells like woods (not just oud), pepper, and a smoky incense, almost resinous, with cardamom. It has a very subtle base that reminds me of Versace Man, in bursts. It’s moderate in longevity and sillage. The opening is potent but fades away gradually. If you like Oud Wood, you’ll love this because it’s almost identical.

  • Recent purchase and it easily becomes one of my favorites: 80% Oud Wood. Don’t buy blind.

  • ManucoSeven

Smells like dark but wet woods, very different from the super-woody perfumes I’ve tried. It seems to want to be noble but doesn’t convince me; I prefer sandalwood. With cardamom, it seems to want to pull something sweet, but they’ve tied it down. It’s curious, sitting between fresh and a bit confused between wood and heat. Of Oud Wood, I’ve only tried dupes, and this dupe I like more than the original Versace version; I even get the impression it’s trying to recall Tom Ford’s Noir Extreme, with that powdery cardamom and saffron note. It’s hard to wear lightly or layer if you don’t like the familiar stuff. The Perfumería dupe is usable year-round; this one seems to ask for fresh weather. I tried it with neroli and it ate it up, don’t know if it’s good for layering.

  • I was looking for something else. I like the dark citrus opening, but it dries down to incense, saffron, and oud. For now, I don’t think it fits my personality 🙁

  • Emerson Aldair

I need some clarity on this batch. I picked this up this year for $82 from a trusted seller, so I’m 99% sure it’s genuine. The code is 007f0fc and it doesn’t show up on CheckFresh, even with O/0 variations, just like current Versace releases such as Eros Najim (015f0sc). Was it relaunched? As for the scent, it’s a gem. The opening is citrusy and spicy, the neroli gives it a soapy touch, and it dries down to be warm; the oud doesn’t smell like poop, it’s a designer interpretation. The bottle is gorgeous and the projection is good, lasting 4-5 hours. It’s not eternal, but it’s worth every penny. 10/10.
