The American cowboy image is faithfully captured here. Chaps was probably the first hit from the USA school, thanks to marketing and that scent embodying the rough male of the 70s. It smells of mature, transparent leather, with an intense and heavy oakmoss-sandalwood accord that recalls old cypresses and fougères, but marking a key aromatic advance: it’s the genesis of the brand’s style, the original version of what would come after, Polo, Crest, Safari… My aunt gifted me the bottle from my uncle (+)(55/120ml). It’s the traditional (splash) but comes in a leather shirt case, looking luxurious or perhaps an early edition. After two hours, a fresh and mature leather reigns with oakmoss, wood, lavender, and a spiced citrus touch. Chaps is a blast! It’s the perfume of an era when people smoked Marlboros and boots were the in, with quality ingredients. Although hard to find and not timeless, it’s an authentic American perfume, the first of a style that still reigns in the brand’s philosophy.

Manly, manly, maaan… I want to be a tough guy. Smells like Marlboro, 1979 vibes, and stuff like that. Nowadays, you can’t find anyone on the street smelling like this.
A very pleasant fragrance in my opinion. The downside is that it doesn’t last long on my skin, probably because it’s an aftershave and I understand those are less concentrated in aromatic components; but I’ll buy it again if they don’t discontinue it.
