Review of the old version with the blue box made in Spain and the sticker on the glass. In the Chaz commercial Tom Selleck goes cowboy lassos cattle with a booming ‘yeah’ then showers dries his chest and rubs his face with the bottle. A flawless seventies masculinity ritual. Chaz embodies that lost masculinity of impossible mustaches now as parodic as it is charming. It’s a very animalic leather with a slight sweetness probably from musks. A leather crowned by aldehydes and above all by a very light rosemary that reminds me of the opening of Paco Rabanne Pour Homme. In the heart a sober geranium; in the dry down something that smells of wet not sweet unlisted patchouli and oakmoss with smoky touches. It’s a perfume of contained elegance not refined as suggested by the commercial’s ending with Selleck in a tuxedo and cowboy hat. Chaz doesn’t smell like perfume but like the illusion of smelling a man’s skin after hours of sweating. It’s the scent of the club where Al Pacino danced in Cruising possessed by sweat testosterone and amyl nitrite. Chaz is the vestige of a lost masculinity.

  2. All I remember is that in 1986 it was the richest-smelling perfume I’d ever experienced and then it vanished in the 90s. Two drops lasted for hours excellent.

A fragrance that wins you over at first glance solid very natural and truly delicious. A child of its time yet it doesn’t feel out of place today; quite present and fruity at the start it surprises with the unexpected kindness of its scent. The perfect perfume for Magnum spinning around in his red Ferrari and for those who aren’t satisfied with modern launches and seek a perfume with personality soul and great longevity. A small treasure discovered thanks to the magician Bofifa.

  4. Chaz has been a real surprise for me. It’s a very old-school cologne. The opening is particularly aggressive loaded with herbal and citrus notes in the most ‘ripe fruit’ part but it fades quickly giving way to delicious woods especially patchouli and amber balancing everything. It smells like a total 80s cologne powerhouse (back then it was advertised by Tom Selleck so no need to say more). It’s pure hard-core machismo at its peak (imagine a Bogart One Man Show but more timid); perhaps its originality lies in the fact that it’s not loud trying to be soft or subtle with a trail that becomes moderate quickly (lasting about 4-5 hours). Here comes the surprise: very rarely do I receive compliments for the perfumes I wear (nor do I expect them) but Chaz has shown it has an unusual hook. Maybe because despite its softer structure and an unknown aroma in the commercial market it grabs attention in a good way. Reading reviews I see it was very famous in the US in the late 70s and many people appreciate its seductive qualities from memory. Well even though I don’t believe a perfume is decisive for seduction I can say that the results at least have caught my attention. And it’s the last thing I expected from this genre. Rating: 8/10 IMPORTANT: Nowadays Chaz is made by Jean Philippe (the bottle looks like the photo above). It seems reformulated and is pure trash. The version I used is the original Revlon with the blue box. If you’re looking for these perfumes I highly recommend searching for Revlon; in Spain they appear occasionally especially in neighborhood drugstores. It’s also recommended to apply generously despite the opening: the adorable vaporizer with a soft and continuous spray invites you to do so.
