Chanson d’Eau by Coty

Super light EDT, clean and serene joy, but very poor longevity, more like a cologne. Smells more citrusy than aromatic, and I don’t detect any mango. I love it for being fresh and green; perfumes overwhelm me, and I prefer this style. It costs 9 euros for 200ml with a spray at Druni (sometimes sold at Mercadona without the sprayer). It’s a shame it doesn’t last, but at this price, you can reapply whenever you want. Summary: a cute 90s EDT for daily wear, to feel fresh, optimistic, serene, and youthful right after a shower.

I was almost a teenager, and its ads were everywhere. One day my mom brought back samples from her shopping: The Three Sisters getting drunk on perfume. How rich, fresh, and vital! For my nose, which wasn’t yet looking for mature fragrances, it was exciting to have it, but our income didn’t allow it. We were in a rough patch, lower-middle class leaning towards poor. The problem is that if you don’t catch them while they’re on sale, you’re out! Now I think I can afford it (I have my own income), but it’s not sold in Argentina. What a real pity!

Fresh, pleasant, uncomplicated. A delightful fragrance without pretensions but elegant and long-lasting. It’s summer in caps.

Coming back from the beach with sun-kissed skin, a cold shower, and lounging on the terrace listening to the waves while reading a good book, Chanson D’eau feels so fresh and full of positive energy. It relaxes me and stays with me as I read and drift off to sleep with its comforting scent. Summer after summer, for as many years as I’ve worn it, it remains just as I like it. It’s one of those summer colognes you wear all day to cool down without getting tired of it; it has strength and great personality. It makes me feel fresh and clean, and I feel a great sense of well-being noticing the waves of its fragrance. It’s spicy, a lavish blend of cardamom and fragrant jasmine, very green and slightly bitter. My daughters say it “smells like plants,” yet it has a touch of sweetness from the fruits and becomes pleasantly woody as it settles, with sandalwood adding an elegant touch for my taste. The longevity is more than acceptable considering it’s an eau de toilette and very affordable; a big brand could sell it for five times the price and it would still fit. Fortunately, it’s a quality fragrance at a great price to apply generously and refresh yourself on the hottest days. A delight!

Has anyone reviewed the original Chanson D’eau and not the reformulated Coty version? Edit 2023: I actually have the vintage Astor version in perfect condition! Quick comparison with the Coty one (current and mega-reformulated). The only thing that improved is that it lasts a bit longer (miracle). The notes that distinguish it remain the same or similar (I’m not a perfumer, so I don’t know if they changed or synthesized them). There’s a fresh green note with a pleasant synthetic roll that makes it distinctive, but the original version is much more “real green,” natural, and special. Don’t compare a real leaf to a synthetic one, no daughter, no XD. “Smells the same”… man. It seems the same, but with an original 90s bottle and a current one, you see a huge difference, not just the aroma, but the bottle, the letters, the color. It matters to me, it’s not defining, but it matters that they change the beautiful into the bland. Before it was more elegant, classic, giving the sensation of something less cheap, pampered, and more “natural” both in smell and in the bottle and box. I wouldn’t put the current bottle on my bureau, but the vintage one would :_) Now I have the oval tin with embossed leaves, lovely things they no longer make. The bottle with uneven, curved letters like ribbons, the dark cap, everything very vintage and romantic, like its mythical song. It’s my second favorite of the Chanson line, fighting for first place with Chanson de Nuit. The least popular Chanson d’Air stays out of my favorites, but it has a unique vibe not heard these days; its caramelized touch isn’t my favorite. I know my review is random, but I hope I’ve shed some light and that the gentlemen at Astor are crying over their profaned mythical jewel :_)

What a beauty, what nostalgia, what a pleasure to remember Sally Oldfield’s voice singing “Mirrors” in this cologne’s ad. It was one of my first fragrances and has returned to my hands, welcomed with open arms. It smells like bath foam 🛁, just as aldehydes are supposed to smell like 🧼; Chanson smells like the fresh scent left after using it with hot water. It smells like “home”—cozy and slightly refreshing. So comforting. The calming sensation of rubbing your skin with a soft natural sponge 🧽 full of foam carries the signature of Chanson d’eau. We are, we are, we are Chanson d’eau.

For me, it will always be the Eau parfumee au the vert (Bvlgari) of the working class in Spain 🙂

It’s a cologne that smells amazing, taking me back to when I was a girl and we’d go to the municipal pool in the summer. It smells fresh, green, and youthful, like a vacation. The problem is it doesn’t last at all; I only smell it right when I apply it, and after two minutes it’s gone. It’s not street-worthy, but for home, it’s worth it for the size and price, although Heno de Pravia is better. Update 12/20/21: I’m still using it in summer and fall; in the fall it has more presence and smells clean. I’ll buy it again for winter.

It makes me feel like I’m in a waterfall surrounded by aquatic plants. I used to wear it in my teens, and it smells amazing (if you like exotic talc-herb blends, you’ll love this). It’s discontinued in Mexico.

I love it for after a shower. I live in Argentina and it’s not available here; a relative brought it for me, and then a friend did too. I have one unopened. I used it in my teens, it’s super refreshing for summer, and I adore it.

It brings back memories of my adolescence… In the summer, it was my mother’s fragrance, though I used it too. It’s a very fresh and easily recognizable eau de toilette, at least for those of us who wore it in the nineties. Nowadays, you can find it in Spain at online perfumeries for a ridiculous price, and I wouldn’t mind enjoying it again in the summer. It’s a fragrance that doesn’t get old, and although I haven’t smelled it in years, I can perfectly recall its aroma. It’s fresh, clean, and endearing at the same time; perhaps this is due to the memories it evokes. It’s green and barely citrusy, certainly thanks to the heart and base notes. For me, it’s a spot-on eau de toilette.
