  Despite what the label says, on my skin this is all fruit and acid. Fig takes the lead, while bergamot lifts it to a brutal citrus height. It doesn’t smell like wood, but fresh greens (you can definitely taste the capers!), with potent mint dissolving into the fig’s sweetness, accented by basil. Maybe that doesn’t convince me because it’s quite sugary; it would have been better if it had gone a darker, more unisex route, but of course, it’s a matter of taste. This Divinum Ficus is made for a market that loves jams. The base is very powdery sandalwood, and I wish there was a bit more cedar. I love the design of these Aqve Romane bottles—elegant and sober, reminiscent of a classic. If you’re looking for a fig perfume, this is it, but it’s not raw, juicy fruit; it’s an acidic jam with fine herbs. It’s light and sparkling, but it lacks the realistic, woody freshness of Philosykos. It’s closer to Roger & Gallet’s Feuille de Figuier, but sweeter and less harsh. It’s like a perfect pop song for the radio. I expected something else, but it’s not a bad perfume, just not for me.
