Chance Eau Vive by Chanel is a floral musk woody fragrance for women. Launched in 2015, this composition was created by Olivier Polge. The top notes unfold the freshness of blood orange, grapefruit, and citrus; the heart reveals the elegance of jasmine and white musk; while the base notes land with the sophistication of vetiver, cedar, and iris.

  • I was eager to try it because I love Chance and Eau Tendre, but it disappointed me: it’s too soft, I can barely smell it. I ordered a sample, and today on my skin it smells fresh at first and then like peach; my boyfriend said it smelled like lemon to him, but very soft, I barely feel it. No one at work or family has noticed anything. For the price, it’s not worth it.

What a disappointment. Since it’s Chanel, I thought I’d like it, but I didn’t. It smells like orange peel and grapefruit juice; it’s not bad, but not for the hype. To make it last, you technically have to drench yourself or put it on clothes; with 10 or 15 sprays, the longevity is decent, but it remains very soft.

  • I expected more given Chanel’s reputation. It reminded me a bit of Eau Tendre, like an energizing water version that smells nice, but it fails on sillage and longevity. On my skin, it was almost imperceptible by the hour. It’s too soft, and the price doesn’t justify it. I wouldn’t recommend it.

  • I absolutely loved it, but watch out: it depends heavily on the wearer’s skin pH. I tested it on friends and family, and the scent changed drastically; for some, it didn’t suit them at all and faded quickly. On me, it lasted almost the whole day and is super fresh, perfect for work dates. Although, I still prefer Chance Tendre.

  • Eau Vive didn’t like me at first when I applied it because the scent was too intense, but as time passed, I really started to enjoy it. At first it’s elegant and sophisticated, a floral fragrance, and I give it extra points because it lasts for hours and hours. I want it.

  • I tried this perfume because my mom brought it back from a trip… it’s very citrusy at first and I think it disappears completely after two hours… it’s a Chanel! I expected a bit more. I agree with some other girls; I’m sticking with Chance Tendre… it’s more sophisticated and lasts longer… it’s a shame that the general complaint is that perfumes don’t last long… I guess that’s what we all want: to be perfumed all day!

  • andreaXimena

Totally disappointed… the scent isn’t anything new… bitter, very faint citrus with perhaps a hint of wood… it doesn’t do justice to its Chance predecessors… it doesn’t last long and the combination is linear and very simple.

  • This is my favorite scent in the Chance line. It’s fresh and perfectly balances fruity and floral notes. I like wearing it in spring or summer. Since there’s only an EDT version, it lasts until lunchtime (though much longer than another EDT I own); an EDP version would be perfect.

  • I love this Chance flanker! It’s subtle and delicate. I think women of all ages can wear it without issues; it’s almost angelical with that refined Chanel touch. Perfect to avoid having girls wear only candy-like scents. It’s a great blend of flowers, wood, fresh vetiver, and citrus. Light, feminine, and beautiful. Perfect for mornings when you wake up early for work. I want it!

  • I absolutely love this Chance flanker. It’s subtle and incredibly delicate. I think women of all ages could wear it without any issues… it’s almost an angelic fragrance with that refined Chanel touch. It seems like the perfect candidate for a young girl’s first perfume if you want to avoid the stereotype that girls ‘should’ wear candy and gum scents. It’s a wonderful, soft blend of florals, wood, fresh vetiver, and a precise citrus note. Light, feminine, and gorgeous. Perfect for mornings when we wake up early to work. I want it!

  • I gifted it to my girlfriend five months ago, and I love it when she wears it; it’s my favorite gift ever. I’ve smelled the entire Chance line, and this is the one I like the most, even more than Tendre which has better reviews. I love its citrus-floral balance, very feminine. It suits her perfectly, and it actually attracts me more when she wears it.

  • I gifted it to my girlfriend a few months ago, and I love it when she wears it. It’s the second perfume I’ve given her, and she has several, but this is my favorite. In fact, I smelled all the Chance line, and this was the one I liked the most; not even Tendre, which has better reviews, appealed to me as much. I love its perfectly balanced citrus and floral touch, very feminine; it suits my girlfriend perfectly, and I’m even more attracted to her when she wears it.

  • La plus belle

I absolutely love this fragrance; it’s a very elegant citrus. I was always looking for something like this: discreet yet elegant, and I found it. I used to wear Azur de Lancôme and found it a bit overpowering; however, this is a joy to wear anytime of day. It makes me feel fresh out of the shower and ready to take on the world. Its longevity is enough to feel good on the skin, but on clothes it lasts for days. I wore a blouse and decided to change it at the last minute; my surprise was that after several days, the scent was still there. Eau Tendre is also great, but I think it’s more for summer evenings. Citrus is for waking up in the morning or early afternoon. But if it’s super hot, I think it wouldn’t be bad for summer nights either.

  • charlotinable

I liked it quite a bit; it smells like rainy summer citrus, clean, wet grass fields, and very aquatic. But ooohh surprise, it’s not the best I’ve smelled from Chanel; previous ones smell better and last longer. That said, I still like it, even if it’s not groundbreaking in fragrances. I recognize it has an air of elegance and distinction; it has the Chanel class but lacks the longevity of other better perfumes from this magnificent French house.

  • La plus belle

Just say, try it, it’s a delight. If you like freshly squeezed fruit, this is yours. The notes are super balanced, giving it a refined and pleasant touch. The longevity is excellent, about four or five hours. I like it more than Eau Tendre.

  • Damn, I love it and hate it! I adore its unique scent: citrusy, youthful, and fresh, yet sophisticated, elegant, and mysterious. The Venice girl in the ad explains it all perfectly; it’s not a body splash, it’s the best. But I hate that it doesn’t last—maybe two hours—and it’s hard to find on clothes even after drenching myself in it. When I repurchase, I’ll get the 100ml version to really soak into it because it defines me so much. Zero sillage… EDIT: After a week, I realized it’s more persistent than I thought. I still smell it on my wrist at 3 hours and on clothes days later. The thing is, it’s subtle; I’m used to strong perfumes. I like it because it’s unconventional and different from the rest of my collection.

  • This Chance Eau Vive has a citrus opening, a slightly sweet and subtle development. I’ve loved it; I have Eau Tendre and Eau de Parfum, and this one stands out as different, floral, soft, and non-intrusive. It lasts on my skin, although it doesn’t have a great sillage. This Chance is different, elegant, cheerful, and youthful.

  • Confite Berlinés

I bought Eau Vive with great excitement. With hopes set on how it smelled on the blotter when they sprayed it, I went home happily with the bottle, box, and red ribbon. My pH broke the charm. I clarify that it’s a beautiful scent; I adore how it smells on clothes and other people, but my skin ruined it once again. It’s curious. The candied orange peels, the fruity forest, the vanilla, and the typical Chanel trail, which is easy to identify, in me later get lost and turn sour. Listen to how my heart breaks. I thought I needed to hydrate my skin more, that it was the heat, or that being an eau de toilette meant it wasn’t a perfume. But no. On my mother, it smells beautiful. With all the pain in the world, I lent it to her. If your pH doesn’t alter fragrances and you love the original Chance, you’ll love this flanker.

  • I bought it blind and I loved it. I already have Chanel Tendre and Fraiche, which I like, but my favorite is Tendre. This one I liked a lot, it’s very soft and fresh. I’m missing the original Chanel to complete my collection.

  • Crisindian

It cost me a lot to decide on the high price and that it’s an eau de toilette, but it conquered me for summer. I sprayed it on my wrist and it lasted more than 8 hours, alternating the soft and sweet aroma of jasmine and iris with the citrus. It makes me feel on another level, it’s wonderful. I recommend testing on skin because everyone’s pH is peculiar; it happened to me with expensive perfumes that didn’t last at all, but with this one I got lucky.

  • It was hard for me to distinguish it from the original Chance EDT because both are orange citrus scents. But since I work in perfumery, I gave it time. I sprayed it cautiously, fearing my pH is ruthless to citrus (it already happened with Coco Mademoiselle). It opens with a sweet, natural red orange and soft green leaves, like grapefruit and mint juice. Then it evolves into something serious: the orange becomes bitter and the vetiver shines, but it doesn’t turn sour, just loses sweetness. It lasted from morning to night, a record. The pyramid works for a long day where you start energetic and don’t want it to vanish in crowded places at night. I like the fruity-floral touch, and the Chanel personality is there, but with unique traits. Worth it.

  • It took me a while to separate it from the original EDT because both are orange citrus to me. But since I work in perfumery, I dedicated time to it. I sprayed it on my wrist, fearing my relentless pH with citrus, which already played a bad trick on me with Coco Mademoiselle. It opens with a sweet, almost natural red orange, with soft green leaves like grapefruit and mint juices. Over time, the evolution becomes serious: the orange turns bitter and the vetiver shines, but it doesn’t sour or rot, just loses sweetness and sparkle. It lasted from morning to night, a record. The pyramid works for a long day where you start energetic and don’t want it to disappear in polluted places at night. I like the fruity-floral touch and the Chanel personality is there, expressing its unique traits. Worth it.

  • I had been wanting to try it for so long, and when it arrived, it was like a terrorist attack on my pH defending itself. On paper, it’s fresh, summery, and pairs well with Eau Tendre; I thought I’d like it too… oh, horror. On my skin, it transformed catastrophically; the saleswoman and I were scared by such a disgusting smell that she had to find alcohol and cotton to remove it, and the worst part is it wouldn’t go away. I bet if I had liked it, it wouldn’t have lasted this long. Betrayal, PQH!

  • I had been wanting to try it for so long, and when it arrived, it was like a terrorist attack on my pH, which defended itself alone. On paper, it’s fresh and summery; I thought I’d like it as much as Eau Tendre, but oh no, horror. On my skin, it transformed catastrophically until the saleswoman and I were scared; the smell was so unpleasant she had to use alcohol and cotton to remove it, and it wouldn’t go away. I bet if I had liked it, it wouldn’t have lasted this long. My pH is a traitor.

  • Chance Eau Vive is elegant, tender, and soft. It starts with freshly squeezed orange and dries down to that indefinable scent I love. Even though no one around me notices it, I can still smell it the next day. Who cares if others don’t notice it if I enjoy wearing it? I love it.

  • Chance Eau Vive is elegant, tender, and soft. The opening is freshly squeezed orange; then as it dries, it leaves that soft scent I can’t describe but love. Although people don’t perceive it on my skin, I can feel it until the next day. But, what matters if they smell it or if I enjoy it? I love it.

  • Citrusy and super refreshing, it’s the freshest in the Chance family. Aromatic orange with a touch of synthetic white musk that blends well with sour vetiver; I don’t detect cedar or jasmine on my skin. Ideal for women of all ages looking for something fresh, friendly, and non-intrusive, perfect for daytime or work if you’re young and extroverted. Not sensual for night, but fresh with distinction.

  • FranSeatJones.

Probably Eau Vive is the most overlooked perfume in the Chance line, and I don’t know why… It seemed like a super-energetic, wearable creamy citrus with frankly good longevity for an EDT. It’s slightly powdery citrus with a pleasant iris, backed by a very noticeable vetiver base. Perfect for hot afternoons or nights; it embraces you with that halo of elegant cream. I don’t sense anything floral, just citrus and woods. Simple, unpretentious, pleasant, slightly elegant, perfectly informal. I’ve loved it a lot. More than Eau Tendre but less than Eau Fresh. I’m going to enjoy it this summer. A citrus worth getting to know.

  • I went to Chanel at Galerías Pacífico in Buenos Aires looking for Chance, but they didn’t have it. They offered me to try other variants, and I found this one. I liked its springy, daytime style, sparkling and youthful like all these versions. I detect orange and grapefruit with a certain sweetness, followed by a splash of jasmine that warms up with the musk. The vetiver isn’t dominant; I don’t feel it’s unisex; the iris base gives it luminosity. It’s a feminine, cheerful Chance, less citrusy than Eau Fraiche and less innocent than Tendre. Simple, with a flatter evolution than the original EDT. Would I buy it? Absolutely.

  • Exquisite opening: citrus, fruity, floral, like walking through an orange and lemon grove. Within minutes, the citrus drops and the flowers arrive; it remains delicious, and at the end, you notice wood, musk, and florals. The downside is that it lasts very little on my skin, which is a shame. You have to reapply up to 4 times a day; it’s a torture. In the end, it feels like a young, elegant, wealthy woman. I insist: the longevity and projection are poor; you have to be very close to smell anything.

  • Eau Vive is what lasts the longest on my skin; I put it on in the morning and it lasts until the next day. It projects well. I think it’s because of my skin, because it didn’t feel the same on paper—I only fell in love with it on skin. The citrus and musk are very noticeable. As it evolves, it stays sweet, with lots of vetiver, cedar, and iris coming out; it feels intense, almost overwhelming. I use a maximum of 3 sprays or I get bothered by it. It’s not for everyone; on other skin types it smelled different and didn’t last at all, but if you have the right pH, you’ll love it for the longevity, projection, and scent.

  • Chance Eau Vive is citrusy, herbal, and talc-like. The opening is fresh with little sweetness. Over time, it gains a talc-like, green, and woody sensation, but always stays fresh and citrusy until the end. Unlike Eau Tendre, it’s less floral and fruity, but it remains a daytime scent: casual and elegant, for the office, hanging out with friends, or shopping. Longevity is 7 or 8 hours; sillage is noticeable for the first hour, then drops but leaves a light trail. They’re pricey, but they smell good for the general public. I’d almost recommend it blindly, but better to test it first.

  • Perfumadict

Opens very citrusy and soapy, then settles into a fresh, floral scent with wood touches. I recognize the quality, but it’s nothing extraordinary. A fair balance between acidity and sweetness.

  • beto_ruiz

Chance Eau Vive is citrusy, herbal, and powdery. Fresh and citrusy opening, not very sweet. Over time, it gains a powdery, green, and woody sensation, but always stays fresh and citrusy. Less floral and fruity than Eau Tendre, it’s daytime, casual, and elegant: office, friends, shopping. Lasts 7 or 8 hours; the trail is noticeable for the first hour, then fades but leaves a mark. Chanel isn’t cheap, but it smells good on everyone. I’d almost recommend it blindly, but better to try first.

  • Playas1010

It has citrus notes; it reminds me of Mochino Love Love and Coco Mademoiselle. Like all citrus scents, it’s perfect for summer and the beach.

  • A work of art made into perfume, exquisite, delicious, sublime—it left me speechless. When it dries down, I imagine ethereal beings like angels.

  • Sounds a lot like Gabrielle, but safer and more youthful, with that elegant, clean touch. Chance Eau Vive is more energizing; Gabrielle lasts longer and feels more conservative. I love both of them.

  • vikstrasza

My favorite citrus scent, a staple in my collection. My mom gifted it to me after I graduated, and I wore it constantly. I used it from January to February 19 in Heidelberg, perfect for the last chill of the year. It smells citrusy and musky, giving you energy with the snow and the hope of thawing. It helped me study and get through uni, keeping me focused and confident. Ideal for closed spaces and work; it smells like just out of the shower with a complex citrus gel. I loved it so much that now I wear it whenever I need presence, whether strolling the beach or at important meetings. It’s youthful; my mom thinks it smells weird, like an old cologne. I’m already on the second bottle and thinking about buying the whole line. A solid 10/10.
