Boss Soul by Hugo Boss

My favorite Hugo Boss scent. I used to love Dark Blue, but the formula changed. This one brings back so many great memories from 2005, 2006, 2007, and 2008.

My cousin gifted it to me a few weeks ago; her husband brought it from Spain and had it stored for years, using it only a couple of times before letting it gather dust… It’s a seductive perfume with a sweet touch but feels modern, not like something for an older gentleman. I see it for someone dressed for the office or casual wear but well-groomed, with dress shoes and a long-sleeve shirt. It reminds me a lot of BOSS Bottled; they’re very similar. As for longevity, close to the skin, it lasts about 8 hours because, having been stored for years, it seems to have aged beautifully.

For me, and this is a very personal opinion, it’s the best perfume I’ve ever owned. The scent is unmatched by any other; it has its own identity. It’s warm without being overwhelming, discreet, and close to the skin. Its heart and base notes provide excellent support that contrasts with the delicate opening. It’s perfect for romantic, intimate encounters where a strong perfume would be uncomfortable. The spicy aromas stand out, and although not mentioned, it has a leather touch that makes it very masculine. As I said, it’s a perfume you know others won’t wear in the same space. It’s exclusive and unique.

A very pleasant and easy-to-wear fragrance. Perfect for a date, a walk, dinner, or shopping; it makes the person with you feel lucky to be around someone with class and good taste. It doesn’t offer anything new today—maybe it proposed something different when it first launched—but it has the great merit of combining trendy notes to perfection: cardamom, pepper, cinnamon, vanilla, and tonka bean. It’s spicy and subtle, not as nose-piercing as Spicebomb, and lacks the dark tone of Bvlgari Man in Black. Boss Soul, with its amber sweetness, feels more refined and mature.

My story with this fragrance is similar to @jimblue’s. It was one of the first I owned; I was testing scents in the store and, perhaps overwhelmed by the options, when Soul arrived, that picky pepper note hooked my nose. I bought it, and the next day, I loved the pepper opening, but after 30 minutes, the mix of cinnamon and nutmeg became terrible, giving me a headache and nausea that lasted the remaining 4 hours I could smell it. In the end, I didn’t enjoy the musk; the invasive nutmeg and cinnamon were still lingering. I don’t remember what I did with the bottle. I guess I was very young and amateur back then (I was 16). Maybe it’s time to try it again now with a more trained nose.

I have a distant memory of this perfume… I bought it at a small shop, strongly influenced by the owner because she couldn’t sell it to anyone (I realize that now). I wore it for a while; I remember its extreme sweetness, ambery, with a slight anise touch. I gifted it to a relative, who I think enjoyed it.

This scent bears a huge resemblance to La Rive Black Line; both are exquisite. The opening is intense with cardamom, cinnamon, and nutmeg, then it transitions to vetiver, orange, and lavender… Very good, a safe and timeless purchase, which is the best part of all.

It ran out, and I will definitely buy it again.

It’s a bit strong, but rich and wearable. The pepper and anise notes, combined with the citrusy lemon touch, are noticeable right from application. The downside is the short longevity (about 2 hours) and a moderate trail. The bottle is simple but pretty. I’ve worn it day and night; in my opinion, it’s better for winter days because the scent is a bit strong, and at night only in smoke-free areas, otherwise it fades quickly due to its short duration. Overall, it’s good, and I recommend it to those who don’t like soft or fruity perfumes but prefer a marked spicy scent.
