“You can definitely sense Antoine Lie’s signature here: Black maintains the Tom of Finland or Rien style, playing with contrasts between the dark and the bright, the tarred leather, and that signature metallic floral. It’s very good, though without innovation, it follows the same creative line as several of his other works.””
“Tried this Puredistance and I just say: I love it. Since the notes are secret, let me tell you what it smells like: a Cuba Libre with cola on a smoky terrace, party vibes, night, and vice. It reminds me of my youthful nights out with CH 212 VIP, but different. My nose is bad, so take what follows with a grain of salt. The opening is balsamic and smoky, like Amouage’s Interlude or Black Afgano, so it surely carries incense or resins like opoponax. There’s also something sweet, maybe amber or benzoin, but no vanilla. I detect coffee, a green-spicy touch like cardamom, dark woods like patchouli or a very subtle oud, and finally leather and tobacco, giving it a masculine character without being unisex. Did I get it? 😂 The dry down is sweeter, like burnt sugar, similar to Raghba, but I don’t think I nailed it. In short, it smells good, it’s elegant, and not intrusive. Longevity is extremely high because it’s an extrait at 10€/ml (and I recommend their sample sets; the service is top). Projection is moderate, creating an aura without saturating. Ideal for cold weather or mild nights. I recommend women try it first; it might lean masculine, but if you can handle Black Afgano, this is yours. Scent: 9, Longevity: 9, Projection: 7, Value: 5, Versatility: 6, Originality: 8, Overall: 9.””
“Tried this Puredistance perfume today and I just say: I love it! Since the notes are ‘secret,’ let me tell you what it smells like. To me, it’s a Cuba Libre with cola on a smoky pub terrace with people smoking; it’s alcoholic cola, smoky, party vibes, night, and vice. It reminds me of my youthful party scents like CH 212 VIP, though very different. My nose is bad at identifying scents, so take everything I say with a grain of salt. The opening is balsamic and slightly smoky, reminiscent of Amouage’s Interlude or Nasomatto’s Black Afgano; they share that incense and smoke character that Black also has. I’d add that it probably carries incense or balsamic resins like opoponax. Within the resinous base, there’s something sweet, perhaps amber or benzoin, but no vanilla. I detect dark coffee or cocoa notes (more coffee), a green and spicy touch, likely cardamom. There’s also dark wood like patchouli or a very subtle oud, without the medicinal side. It could carry leather and tobacco, giving it a masculine yet unisex vibe. Did I get any notes right? 😂😂 The dry down is much sweeter, like burnt sugar, similar to Lattafa’s Raghba. Even if I missed the mark, you can see how I perceive it. It’s intense but not intrusive; it’s very well-made and elegant. Longevity is extremely high, expected in an extrait at 10€/ml (I recommend their sample sets for the price and exquisite service). Projection is moderate, creating a close and discreet aura. Ideal for cold climates or mild nights. Although unisex, I recommend women try it first; it might lean masculine. If you can handle Black Afgano or Laudano Nero, you can handle this.
