Descripción

Black Mango by BORNTOSTANDOUT® is an oriental woody fragrance from the olfactory family, crafted for men and women. Launched in 2025, this new scent was created by perfumer Violaine Collas. Its olfactory pyramid unfolds with top notes of mango and orange; a heart composed of mango, balsam of Peru, and Bourbon vanilla; and a base that reveals the depth of oud wood, leather, nagarmota (cyperus rotundus), and sandalwood.

  • In the style of Borntostandout, this one splits opinions: you either love it or hate it, and I’m in the first camp. The opening is an incredibly intense, ripe mango with a touch of tropical bubblegum that has me hooked. Others might find it overwhelming, but it’s in the dry-down where it truly shines: an animalic, dirty, sensual oud base paired with smoky leather, as if you’ve set the sandalwood stick on fire. It also smells like toasted caramel, almost like burnt almonds. People say mango smells rotten, but no—it’s just when it’s soft and chopped, edible or not. Some compare it to a disco bath, and here it is, with that animalic, dirty, radical, nocturnal side that makes some nauseous while others are magnetically drawn to it. It’s pure ‘to standout’ in alternative settings but still highly enjoyable. Projection and longevity are brutal (up to 24 hours on skin and over a week on clothes); just 1-2 sprays (keep it away from the neck so you don’t suffocate) are more than enough. Perfect for layering, add a touch over something fresh in summer and it will pop.

  • Like the rest of the Borntostandout lineup, this is polarizing: you either love it or hate it. I’m in the former camp. The opening is a brutally intense, mature blast with a hint of bubblegum or tropical hair mask that hooks you immediately. On Fragrantica and other sites, people complain it fades quickly, and I get it, but it truly shines during the dry-down. The base is oud, animalic, dirty, and sensual, featuring leather and smoke as if it were set on fire (if you’ve ever burned sandalwood, you’ll get it). There’s also a toasted caramel note, almost like cocoa or candied almonds. Some say it smells rotten, but no—it’s exactly the moment before: soft, chopped, inedible but not because it’s rotting. Others detect a nightclub bathroom vibe, and I admit there’s a bit of that, but it’s that animalic, dirty, radical, nocturnal, underground facet that makes some feel nauseous while driving others crazy. It’s pure ‘to standout’ in alternative settings, yet highly enjoyable. Projection and longevity are beastly (up to 24 hours on skin and over a week on clothes); just 1-2 sprays (keep them away from your neck if you don’t want to suffocate) are more than enough. I think it’s ideal for layering—a tiny dab over something fresher on a summer night will give it an extra glow.

  • While Black Mango starts off sticky and innocent, it quickly reveals its true face: the mango ripens in fast-forward, blending seamlessly with leather and oud to create a delightfully dirty vibe. Expect smoky, burnt, and nutty notes. If you move from cold outdoors to a warm, enclosed space, you’ll feel it wake up, like embers being fanned. It has that certain something of cured leather, a worn-in object, an old wooden tool. All in the best way: pleasant and highly original. As expected, it has above-average longevity (still going strong at 12 or 13 hours), though sometimes these fruit-leather-oud combos can be overdone. Black Mango is perfectly wearable and enjoyable. It’s not pretentious. With moderation, it works fine in a normal office, occasionally, without issues. HR or your company psychologist won’t come after you. It’s just as good for daily wear as it is for going out. It’s casual, and I don’t think it’s strictly for cold weather. From my experience, it sparks curiosity. It might not please everyone since nobody smells like this and it could be off-putting to some, but the truth is, I’ve received several compliments. Overall, I believe that even if you prefer moderate scents like I do, it’s well worth knowing and owning small formats of creations like this.

There are smoky, burnt, and nutty nuances. If you move from cold outdoors to a warm environment, you’ll notice it waking up, like embers being fanned. It has that certain something of cured skin, a well-worn item, an old wooden tool. All in the best way: pleasant and very original. As expected, it performs above average (still bubbling strong at 12-13 hours), but sometimes these fruity oud-leather combos are overhyped. Black Mango is perfectly wearable and enjoyable. It’s not pretentious. With moderation, it can be worn in a normal office, occasionally, without issues. It won’t get you flagged by HR or sent to the psychologist. It works for daily life and going out. It’s casual and, from my experience, sparks curiosity. Maybe it displeases people because no one smells like that, but I’ve received several compliments. Although I prefer moderate scents, I think it’s worth knowing and having small formats of creations like this.
