  • Soft velvety violets with a tiny citrus mist. The Belle Époque at its finest: luxurious without needing makeup or being extravagant. Its subtlety caresses the face like a spring breeze. At the start, the iris stands out, followed by a shy carnation, sweet heliotrope, and the most romantic ethereal violet, completing the composition. This makes Après l’Ondée one of the most beautiful florals in history: soft and fragile, yet emotionally powerful. Maybe that impression comes from the fact that it opens as a fresh cologne with iris, violet, and carnation, then minutes later reveals a sweet, slightly vanilla base, with anise, mimosa, musk, benzoin, and sandalwood interwoven. It remains clearly floral, even as it flirts with oriental components. There’s unmistakably L’Heure Bleue DNA here; the influence is undeniable in this 1912 creation where they added clove, tonka bean, spices, more benzoin, and sandalwood. The fixative is soft, so keep that in mind.

  • Après l’Ondée is one of my favorite fragrances. It features my top notes: lily, violet, and heliotrope. At first, you catch an anise tone that lingers throughout the entire life of the scent, before the magical blend of violet, lily, and heliotrope emerges—soft, powdery, like old cream or face powder. The longevity is impressive, but the sillage is minimal; you only notice it if you get close to the skin. It’s a perfume from another time, reminding me of the Art Nouveau era and the women of that period. Highly recommended.

  • A meteorological iris water from crown to toe. It smells like fields of violets under a summer rainstorm, a thunderstorm while driving down a road with petrichor and hot asphalt. It’s violet talc soaked in rain, creating a beautiful grey marengo landscape. Vintage, classic, and absolutely stunning. It defines Guerlain’s identity, that scent of makeup and violets. A rainy day in Paris.
