A meteorological iris water right to the crown. Smells like fields of violets under summer rain, a storm while driving down the road with notes of petrichor and hot asphalt. It’s violet-soaked talc creating a beautiful grey marengo landscape. Vintage, classic, and absolutely stunning. Defines Guerlain’s identity, that makeup and violet scent. A rainy day in Paris.

It’s violet talc soaked in rain, creating a beautiful grey marengo landscape. Vintage, classic, and absolutely stunning. It defines Guerlain’s identity, that scent of makeup and violets. A rainy day in Paris.
Après l’Ondée is one of my favorite fragrances. It features my top notes: lily, violet, and heliotrope. At first, you get an anise tone that lasts throughout the entire scent journey, then the amazing combination of violet, lily, and heliotrope emerges: soft, powdery, like old cream or face powder. The longevity is impressive, but the sillage is very low; you only notice it if you get close to the skin. It’s a perfume from another time, reminding me of the Art Nouveau era and the women of that period. Highly recommended.

Soft violets like velvet with a tiny citrus mist. The Belle Époque at its finest: luxurious without needing makeup or being extravagant. Its subtlety caresses the face like a spring breeze. At first the iris stands out followed by a shy carnation the sweet heliotrope and the ethereal most romantic violet completing the composition. It turns Après l’Ondée into one of the most beautiful florals in history: soft and fragile yet emotionally powerful. Maybe that impression comes from how it opens as a fresh cologne with iris violet and carnation then minutes later a sweet slightly vanilla base emerges with anise mimosa musk benzoin and sandalwood intertwined. It’s clearly floral though it flirts with oriental notes. There’s unmistakably L’Heure Bleue DNA in this 1912 creation where they added clove tonka bean spices more benzoin and sandalwood. The sillage is soft keep that in mind.

The fixative is soft, so keep that in mind.
