What a great fragrance, sweet and fruity, with a very interesting citrus note. Definitely never fails and is among my favorites. It has a 90s spirit. 9/10. Good longevity and sillage.
My first quality fragrance I bought. I think it wasn’t the best choice: it’s very good, but for an 18-year-old, a perfume with these characteristics doesn’t seem like a good idea.
It reminds me of an early Lynx (now Axe), maybe the Marine. If anyone agrees and remembers, please help me.
As soon as you spray it, you notice a potent sweet lavender roaring like an animal, with subtle citrus touches and a well-present neroli. As it evolves, the pine and moss become more prominent. The leather isn’t very consistent at first, stays calm, and then becomes much more noticeable. It seems to want to combine the freshness of the 90s with the aromatic intensity of an 80s perfume. In terms of longevity, it’s a fixing bomb; you have to know how to administer it or we end up being its prey. With Animale, less is more. In structure, it seems like an amplified Cool Water. At times it’s excessive, not as well orchestrated as Davidoff, but it has its identity. Many talk about Animale 94′ as the best; I should see if I can find it and analyze it. Nowadays, it doesn’t impress me as much; it seems correct but suffers from excess, yet I remember it a lot because, when I was little, it was one of my father’s favorites to go sniff perfumes with, alongside Azzaro Pour Homme. My review is about the 90s Eau de Toilette.
Does anyone know where to find the batch of this fragrance?
Nothing like Animale compared to Eternity. I owned both when they launched and found no resemblance. In fact, I stopped using Animale because its scent got on my nerves, while I liked Eternity. They don’t resemble each other. Animale has a note that exhausted my olfactory senses; I don’t know if it’s the moss or the geranium, but that’s what stands out most. In short, I can’t stand it. On other people, and for a moment, I do like it a bit, but it’s not for me.
I’ve read many reviews associating it with CK Eternity, but my nose links it more to the old cylindrical Polo Sport. Being from the 90s, it keeps that fresh, citrusy, and aromatic line of the era with that floral touch, like CK One, CK Be, or Eternity. Excellent longevity, good sillage, and better than average. On my skin, it lasts over 10 hours, projecting about 6 depending on the temperature; it shines in warm climates, spring, or summer. Later, it lingers close to the skin on clothes for days. Great price-to-quality ratio. It never fails, generates compliments, and breaks the mold. In my opinion, it makes a difference. In Uruguay, you can find it at a good price at certain perfumeries. A very pleasant fragrance, definitely one of my favorites.
As a Cuban, I was looking for deals at the perfumeries and stumbled upon Commodo. This one caught my eye not because of the low price, but because I’d always heard good things about it. I had tried it before, so it wasn’t a blind buy: Animale for $26, another one for the collection. Top notes: freesia, lemon, and neroli; heart: juniper berries, lavender, and geranium; base: leather, oakmoss, and vetiver. Fragantica classifies it as a spicy oriental, but I perceive it as aromatic-floral. It’s interesting because, being from the 90s, it still has that 80s touch in its opening. It’s not fresh, but it works in heat if you don’t overapply. The best part: spectacular longevity and projection for the price. The floral notes of neroli, lavender, and freesia stand out. It feels a bit synthetic, but at this price, it doesn’t matter. It’s a compliment generator. For me, it’s more of a night scent, though versatile with casual wear and outings. Highly recommended, it won’t leave you indifferent.
It’s a serious scent, highly contagious, and lasts forever. Definitely one of my favorites.
Thank you so much, it works. I got this flanker wrong; I meant to review the original, so I deleted this and posted my review in the correct section.
Noble woody fragrance, perfect for men with character and intellect. I recommend it to guys aged 30 to 40; on my skin, it lasts easily about 7 hours. The price is very affordable, but be careful: don’t overdo it, 4 or 5 sprays are enough for a full day. Greetings from Medellín.
Very rich and masculine; aromatic, citrusy, fresh, and mossy. A classic for receiving compliments; great for daily use.
A 90s fragrance that brings back memories. It’s one of those scents that makes you turn around to see who’s wearing it. Very distinctive and rich. Fresh, with a marine touch. Fair price and excellent value for money. One of my favorites.
A measured Animal: my first designer fragrance at age 10 back in 1996. It has a vintage yet timeless fruity-floral blend. Lavender gives way to leather and moss, contrasting the initial citrus and florals, very balanced. Thinking of Animale is thinking of a youthful fragrance that competed with Fahrenheit. Today it’s versatile, for young 30s to mature 45s; it literally grew up with us. Try it before buying. Works well day and night, where the leather helps. Ideal for cool temperatures, tolerates heat but not enough to unleash all its charms. The fixative is very good. At the current price, it’s an excellent buy if you like medium scents with flowers and leather. Sprays: 5 to 8. Fixative: 8. Trail: Medium. Intensity: Medium.
90s classic: pleasant, long-lasting, and practical. Despite the reformulation, it’s still going strong. Ideal for those over 25 (though age doesn’t matter). In my collection, Yanbal’s Temptation for men is 95% similar, just swapping lemon for tangerine and leather for cedar, but this Animale has more staying power. You’ll get good compliments. In mild weather, it shines at work and social events without being intrusive or cloying. It’s versatile, a Swiss Army knife if you don’t overdo it. Incredible price, don’t spend on expensive clones like Polo or CK; Animale lasts longer on skin and clothes. For stylish men, this is old school. Tiens!
Starts with fresh lime, then lavender comes out, finishing with moss and leather. A rich, well-made fragrance that remains attractive after almost 30 years. It used to hit me harder, maybe because I wore it a lot, but after 10 years it revived my college days. Smells great, though it can get a bit much for me. It’s a basic essential for any wardrobe, accepted by everyone, balanced, youthful, and perfect for informal daytime wear.
Good cheap perfume, no flaws. Smells clean and makes you feel fresh when you wear it.
If you’re thinking of buying it now: it smells just like it did years ago. I was the kid who smelled the best in the classroom back in the 90s; now at 35, someone gifted it to me and it smells exactly the same. If you’re looking for something rich and different from today’s overly sweet trends, this is the option. It generates compliments, it’s versatile, informal, and youthful. Nobody dislikes it.
Did they reformulate it? I smell it exactly like before. I’ve worn it from childhood into adulthood and will keep buying it. It’s unique, nobody else uses it, and you smell delicious. Incredible trail, not uncomfortable, with excellent phases. On clothes, it’s brutal—a super 90s classic at a crazy $40 price. For night out, don’t overapply like you would in the morning. I love the original bottle. Top 10 of the 90s. For an EDT, the performance is impressive. Rich, masculine, doesn’t smell old. I’ll be looking for the 200ml size, I’m running low.
Best aromatic scent and affordable: fresh, clean, and understated, perfect for any occasion. Ideal balance between vibrant notes with floral touches that make it friendly and seductive, and a warm finish with vetiver and suede that keeps it grounded. Might seem vintage at first, but it’s a cozy, delicious masculine classic with an amazing trail. Great for daily wear, summer, the office, or going out. It’s become an addiction.
A friend used it and smelled great, but when I asked for a little, there came a point where I couldn’t stand it. It was just one note—I don’t know which one—that took away my desire to wear it. It smells good overall, but that note seemed strange and piercing to me, almost cheesy; I don’t know how to describe it. At first, a friend brought it over and it smelled amazing, but unfortunately, I can’t take it anymore.
I was pleasantly surprised: for an EDT, it lasted about 8 hours without issues. The scent might seem vintage compared to today’s fragrances. It has a fresh, woody opening that dries down to a noticeable earthy vetiver with a touch of leather. I recommend trying it before buying because it’s not a common aroma. It’s very versatile for any weather, though I’ve been told it smells fresh. The price is a huge advantage; I got it for about 700 Mexican pesos. The scent doesn’t feel too synthetic, and the bottle looks inexpensive. Worth it.
I agree with Josesan; I have two bottles and bought another because I really liked it, but it’s not the same anymore. Even the manufacturer changed; the current version smells very synthetic, nothing like the original from years ago.
I used it in the 90s, and girls went crazy for it—it was incredible. Wherever I went, it captivated people, and it was impossible to go unnoticed. It had a citrus top note with a leather heart that evolved over time to become the dominant note, projecting more than two meters away. You’d perfume yourself, and it lingered on the skin until the next day. Something similar to L’Eau d’Issey Pour Homme by Issey Miyake.
This was my first perfume when I entered the world of fragrances. It smells very fresh but quite synthetic; my friends love it, and it’s my girlfriend’s favorite, though I notice the synthetic notes a lot. The opening is potent, reaching out to the arm and beyond, then it settles closer to the skin—not skin scent, but close. I wear it when people are near. It lasts quite a bit, around 8 hours, which is a plus. I recommend it for any time or season except winter. As a first perfume, it’s not bad; it’s accessible and doesn’t hurt to apply several sprays. It smells very fresh and literally aromatic. The juniper berry note is very prominent. They say Animale For Men and Animale are the perfumes for the bad boy. It’s not a bad perfume; if you want it, go ahead, though the scent is very different from today’s trends and you might not like it at first. Scent: 8/10, Projection: 6/10, Longevity: 7/10, Price: 9/10.
A solid fragrance that makes a strong impression. It’s one of those scents where everyone asks what you’re wearing. You can’t go unnoticed. I’ve used it for a while and consider it fresh and bold.
Fresh, tasty, and clean with good longevity. I wear it on Sundays when I’m free, but it works daily too. Recommended: you can apply several sprays and it lasts about 8 hours without issues.
Pure nostalgia, from my first fragrances. I’ve always bought it, and it’s a staple in my collection.
Smells great, rich up close, and not overly sweet. The sillage isn’t huge, but it performs wonderfully in the short term. I keep it alongside Versace Dylan Blue; while I sometimes mix them, Animale doesn’t even come close to matching Dylan Blue. The dry-down isn’t its best, but it still deserves a 7.
A 90s classic that holds its own against Polo Sport, though perhaps with more character and a spicy kick. Perfect for workouts—it’s super fresh and clean. Animale has some cult perfumes that nobody really appreciates. Rating: 9/10.
The perfume is wonderful, and yet I regret buying it. Animale is a fragrance I would never put on someone under 35. The wood and leather scent is potent and even spicy. It smells like the nineties at their peak, and precisely because of that, it’s hard to wear. You need a certain age or personality (action movie protagonist type) to carry it comfortably. That said, the perfume is excellent. A great option to gift to a man 40 or older; he’ll surely get a nostalgia trip. It can also work in romantic situations, especially if the other person is of a certain age. Due to its pungency, I would never wear it daily. I feel it deserves to be used for special occasions out of respect for others, as it will shine, especially at night.
Solid nineties vibe. Few compliments.
Nineties barbershop vintage. It’s a classic scent for casual use, weak in projection and low longevity. The price is very good so you can buy it without fear. I like it but only use it casually.
Nineties formal man scent; my affection for it comes from the fact that it was the first one that made me fall in love with perfumery. When I was a teenager, I’d grab it from my dad’s shelf, and upon noticing, he’d gift it to me. How can you forget your first perfume? I felt like an alpha when I wore it to school. I think its name describes it well: it’s a wild essence, the kind of fragrance a clean bear would wear if he could. The opening is rich and fresh, but what stands out most are the herbal base and heart notes with leather, not aggressive but very wearable, even citrusy. It’s very versatile, but not at all youthful or modern; I’d probably recommend it for 40+, and at that age it could be a signature scent. At 25, I wear it comfortably in semi-formal situations, like family gatherings, and occasionally just to enjoy its scent at home alone. It’s brought me compliments, but mostly from my mom, my aunts, and older folks, I imagine due to 90s nostalgia. An excellent perfume, especially for its quality-to-price ratio.
I’ve had it for several years and copied it from my father, yet it DOES NOT SMELL OLD; it’s a super sexy, young-elegant scent perfect for cool evenings and semi-formal events. The opening is citrusy but has something that prevents it from being too much for extreme heat; as it dries, that sexy touch remains. I find it a bit tricky to find the ideal moment due to its light, formal character. Regarding projection and longevity, it always seemed low to me, though it lasts longer on clothes. It’s the fragrance I wouldn’t reveal I have, something sexy and unique, since no one has ever spoken to me about it; it’s like a hidden gem. I might have olfactory fatigue making it invisible to me after half an hour; if so, and it projects moderately and lasts, I’d give it 8.5/10, otherwise a 7/10.
A gem I used over 30 years ago. 9/10 across the board. Maybe it might smell dated today (NO), still a classic jewel, the kind that leaves its mark.
The three fragrances I used extensively in my youth: Watt Blue, Samba for Men, and this Animale, which I’d rank third and yet is the only one that survived. I don’t know the current version, but the original was very good. Recently I bought Azzaro TMWI and got some reminiscences, only at the opening. This was the example of how to make a strong, masculine scent; in the dry-down, which was the best part, it felt like wearing a mantle of testosterone. The men who asked me what I was wearing weren’t the fops or the weaklings, but the tough guys, bodybuilders, and studs—that was this scent.
An excellent vintage perfume I’ve used for over 20 years and had completely forgotten about. I bought it for my collection about three weeks ago and was pleasantly surprised; it’s very agreeable and timeless. Longevity and projection are acceptable; even though it’s from 1993, it smells modern, perhaps which is why it was a hit in its day. When I first sprayed it, my wife was about 5 meters away and noticed it immediately. She loved it despite being very picky. Really surprised and pleased me.
What a wonderful fragrance, a classic. Niche-level quality but affordable.
Great one. It smells vintage but isn’t Polo Green or old; it’s a well-groomed ’30s type that gets copies made in the office and leaves coworkers staring. I get the vibe it would be perfect with a straight tobacco scent. Robust and clean, the leather note is done really well; I expected something else and it turned out better than I thought. Scent 8.5/10, Price 9/10, Projection 7/10, Longevity 8/10
