Honestly, I was caught off guard. Looking at the pyramid, I thought it would be fruity, but it turns out to be leather. Yes, there’s a touch of peach, but it’s like saying Oud Maracudja smells like fruit—it doesn’t. The peach is there, especially at first, but what dominates is the leather. It’s not an overwhelming leather; I don’t like the ones that smell like the inside of a car or a market bag in Marrakech; this is much more refined, though it still is leather. I liked the blend; it didn’t drive me crazy, but it did convince me.
It’s a masterpiece and has become my signature—it’s simply my favorite. It’s simple, sensual, and striking. At first, it smells of peach, very faithfully, and as it dries down, it transforms into a sweet, soft leather. It’s a peculiar combination that just enchants. The thing is, peach on skin doesn’t suit everyone, because on many it evolves into something synthetic or sour; for me, blessed with a love for fruity and gourmand scents, they sit perfectly and shine in all their glory. Many will say they don’t like it because they can’t pull off that combination on their skin, so the best advice is to test it before buying. It’s my most praised perfume, a true Guerlain jewel.
I didn’t like it. It’s simple, loud, and a shame for a house like Guerlain, the creator of masterpieces like Shalimar or Mitsouko. It reminds me of a leather shop with peach air freshener and sticky blackcurrant syrup. I’m a huge leather lover in fragrances and don’t see it as masculine or unpleasant, but here it smells synthetic and plastic, like they’re using cheap air freshener to mimic real leather. I don’t detect any flowers or other notes besides peach, leather, and blackcurrant. The peach is sour, the blackcurrants are sweet, and that leather is synthetic. All the ingredients feel cheap and unrefined, rough and crude to the nose. I don’t think it’s a good composition from any angle. I wouldn’t recommend it. If a product this expensive from the top line can fail this badly, I wonder what’s in store for the mass market.
