I went in with high hopes, looking for something similar to Marc Jacobs’ ‘Rain’ (which is no longer available). Expectations were high, and the disappointment was huge. Upon application, I couldn’t smell anything; it was too soft. On my skin, it’s barely noticeable, and after four hours, it smells a bit more. Great letdown: it conveys nothing new, nor the summer notes, sea breeze, or salt it promised. Where are they? I’ll keep looking.

  • It smells good, but don’t get too excited. I detect salt and a marine touch, could it be the seaweed? The only downside is that it doesn’t last at all. I bought 100 ml for €106 and the longevity is terribly poor. I went back to Jo Malone the next day and they admitted it doesn’t last long; Wood Sage fans usually wear the body cream (which costs another €63). In short: it doesn’t smell bad, but I wouldn’t spend €106 on something that doesn’t last half an hour, nor would I buy the cream. Better to invest in something better.

  • Delicious, fresh, and delicate. It evokes a sea breeze, opening a window, and looking out at the ocean. It doesn’t leave much of a trail, but it’s perfect for summer heat. Definitely a perfume for everyday wear.

  • It’s a delight, unique and fresh. Perfect for feeling clean at the office or by the beach, all year round. Very versatile and unobtrusive; everyone loves it. The salty note is surprising: it smells like salt, but incredibly well. The seaweed adds freshness, the floral softens it, and the citrus makes it sharp. It’s a work of art, though the skin performance is moderate; it lasts longer on clothes without staining. Low projection, only about a meter at first, then it becomes intimate. I enjoy it so much I smell it on the shelf several times a week. So simple I’d buy it blind without a second thought. Take care of this beast, it’s got us all bitter! Cheer up, troops.

This fragrance smells like summer in the Hamptons (at least that’s the image it evokes for me). It radiates class and cleanliness. It’s for personal enjoyment, though I imagine it would perform better when combined with other products from the line.

The opening is a delight—super fresh and addictive—but by the mid-notes, it stops hooking me; it smells like salt and something creamy, which together remind me of salty caramel popcorn, a scent I don’t want on my skin. By the end, it sounds good again. It’s weird; I feel a love-hate relationship with it. On my skin, it had good longevity and projection.

The opening is delicious, super fresh, and addictive. But in the heart stage, I didn’t like it; it smells too much like salt and something creamy, which combined give me the impression of caramel popcorn with salt, a scent I don’t want on my skin. However, in the dry down, it smells rich again. It’s strange; I feel an love-hate relationship. I felt it had good longevity and projection on my skin.

  • I really liked it; it doesn’t last too long, but I like it, and it’s ideal for layering with other fragrances.

Wood Sage & Sea Salt is a light, transparent, ethereal, almost conceptual fragrance. It’s very hard to describe. It’s linear and very soft from the start. It doesn’t project; it’s for personal enjoyment, but it lasts many hours on skin and especially on fabric. I wore it today layered with Blackberry & Bay and could still smell it after 9 hours. It’s perfectly unisex and excellent for layering with other Jo Malone colognes, giving them a sweet, polished touch. I don’t feel it’s salty like Olympea, J’adore in Joy, or Womanity, because in those perfumes the salt note sometimes smells like sweat, whereas WS&SS is supremely clean and fresh. It evokes a luxury beach hotel… expensive, modern, and impeccable.

It smells like a cliffside, the sea, sage, untamed nature, a bit melancholic. It’s unisex, but on my skin it tends to lean masculine; if anyone knows something similar but more feminine, please let me know. Longevity and sillage are low, what a shame.

  • My experience is totally different from what’s posted here. I don’t smell salt, citrus, or sage, but something very clean that I think is ambrette. It smells like the facial cream my mom used in the 90s, which is a letdown. I had high hopes and ended up with that ‘meh’ feeling. Maybe I should try it in warm weather. Despite smelling like nothing, its projection is strong for an EdC. I see it as unisex, for daytime in hot months, like you just got out of the shower. Pleasant: 5/10 Interesting: 3/10 Versatile: 7/10 Original: 7/10

I don’t get why some people dislike it; it’s the simplest, cleanest scent in the world. It suits anyone: men, women, non-binary folks, kids, teenagers, you, tell me who and I’ll say yes. I’m not going to talk about notes, but about the feeling: fresh, light, like you just showered and stepped out for a walk on the beach on a crisp day. It’s my go-to for calming nerves; it’s not a beast, but several people have asked me what I’m wearing because it’s so private, nothing showy. The only perfume I own two bottles of at the same time *facepalm* (-‸ლ)

  • I’ve smelled it several times at the counter and tested it on my skin. I don’t know if it reminds others of Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue, but to me, it does—they’re in the same family, just not identical. This Jo Malone version is softer and has a fruity touch, like peach 🍑. I don’t detect any salt or seaweed…

  • @DíasBuenos, if you’re looking for that vibe but something more feminine, try Nettare di Sole by Guerlain. It’s delicious, sharing the same salt, sun, and freshness concept but warmer due to honey. It has moderate sillage and average longevity; I suppose adding more musk would make it harsher without losing its essence. To me, it’s gorgeous and addictive. Cheers!

  • I tried it yesterday at Palacio de Hierro and it was a total disaster. A super light, almost imperceptible clean scent; I walked out half an hour later with my nose pressed to my arm and barely noticed it. For over $150 (100ml), it’s an absolute rip-off.

  • I tried it yesterday at Palacio de Hierro and it was a total letdown. A clean scent, very light, and nothing more. After leaving the store, half an hour later, it was barely perceptible even with my nose right against my arm. For a bit more than $150 (100 ml), it’s a true fraud.

I think it’s a masterpiece. I’m obsessed with marine scents; I prefer this slightly wild and sweet beach to the crowded ones with suntan lotion. It’s more of an autumn beach. The salt and seaweed are subtle, with a warm and elegant touch. The sage is sweet and fresh, and the grapefruit smells like fragrant skin. I use a vial and I love it. However, the longevity is short, though it lingers a bit for a few hours. Finally, the price seems excessive, as is always the case with Jo Malone.

This fragrance is a masterpiece. I love these marine scents, I’d rather have this half-wild, sweet beach over those crowded ones full of people with sunscreen. It’s more of an autumn beach. The salt and seaweed are perfectly subtle and the fragrance has a warm, elegant touch. The sage is sweet and fresh. The grapefruit is smelling your fragrant skin. I have a vial and I’ve been using it these days and the truth is I love it. However, the longevity seems short to me, although it lasts a few hours. Finally, the price seems exaggerated, as Jo Malone perfumes always have to me.

  • Tulipan_negro

This is the cologne I use the most. Literally, I spray it carelessly, compulsively every morning since I got it. I love how it smells and the trail of salt it leaves on my body; I have to bury my nose in my skin to perceive its remnants. For me, it’s a cologne, like a 160-euro Nenuco that smells fantastic. I went to Jo Malone in San Sebastián looking for something else and tried Wood Sage; according to the notes, it reminded me of Light Blue due to the salt, but the memory faded leaving a very special salt scent on my wrist. I didn’t buy it right away, I spent the whole time searching for its trail captivated, it already seemed to smell faint but I went back convinced that with the bottle it would smell more. Yes, my foolishness. Anyway, I bought the bottle and, of course, it doesn’t project or last. I think that’s exactly what you should expect from a perfume whose main note is salt: what is salt going to project? Nothing. It’s a precious, intimate, and special scent, but for the 160 I paid, I wanted more, I wanted my friends to notice I had changed perfumes. So, without admitting defeat, I went back to Jo Malone ready to fix it. They say their fragrances are made to be mixed and personalized, it’s like they give you permission to put them in pairs. And that’s what I did. But I started trying without criteria, looking for something to boost this ‘base’. So drunk on novelty for my nose, I decided on Lime and Basil, I liked it a lot, it felt familiar, and on the tester strip it said it combined perfectly with Wood Sage and Sea Salt. After 48 hours and 300 euros, I realize why I liked Lime Basil: it’s super similar to DKNY, a perfume I’ve used a lot for years. I set Lime and Basil aside until my DKNY ran out and learned the lesson: don’t obsess. I use it happily after a shower and whenever I remember, almost always I put DKNY or Barenia on top, no risk. Do I like Wood Sage? Yes, I love it, I’ve already written: I spray it carelessly, I love smelling it. Does it last? Nothing. Can I afford this waste? Here’s the crux: for this use, definitely not. EDIT: I’ve been a bit unfair, it’s a cologne and performs like a cologne. It’s put very clearly in the bottle. The problem was mine, I insisted it was something else.

  • It was the last Jo Malone sample I had left. My boyfriend thought it was pleasant and gave it a 7.3 😱 I, on the other hand, smell a lot of salt and it makes me feel physically sick… it twists my stomach. Definitely, I can’t be objective 😂😂 It makes me really gag. I’m going to shower right now to see if I can get rid of it.

  • I really like the aroma but I would never pay that price for something that literally lasts 10 minutes on the skin. It’s a unique and beautiful fragrance that transports you to a house on the beach on a windy, cold day, looking out over a cliff, or reading a book on the sofa with a blanket. I thought it would be one of my favorites, but the longevity makes it impossible. I don’t know how they hype it up so much when there are much longer-lasting scents from the brand.

  • natalia1993

I bought it based on the reviews. On my skin, it didn’t last more than 3 hours, and the whole time it smelled like an old lady’s drawer with cloth handkerchiefs and mothballs. It’s not a scent I dislike because it reminds me of childhood, but for the price, I didn’t expect such short longevity or that smell.

  • manuelcapilla

My first niche perfume and already a classic. A mix of exquisite salt and a shy citrus at the start that settles with sage and musk. Simple composition but works perfectly. Like almost all Jo Malones, the longevity is scarce but the scent is delicious. A must-have jewel for personal and intimate use. Completely unisex and suitable for all seasons, though for me it brings back memories of a cold summer, a morning near the sea with a cloudy sky. Perfect for spring, summer, and the first days of autumn.

  • ANDRESLAGM1998

A rich, salty, marine aroma, very aromatic with a citrus touch. It’s clean and refreshing; the name ‘wood’ doesn’t fit because there’s no wood anywhere. For a niche brand, it’s wearable and pleasant, but like almost all Jo Malones, the longevity is terrible. I know many people feel the same. Better to buy a good dupe from an independent brand that specializes in that.

  • The scent is special and magical. I feel clean, comfortable, and calm. Salt and sage dominate, very natural and realistic notes. It feels true to what its name evokes; I haven’t heard anything like it. Lasts about 6 hours on clothes and barely 2-3 on skin. The price is high for the performance, but if you want to feel clean and at peace like the serenity of the sea and the price isn’t an issue, it might be worth it. 17/12/25 Edit: I love this perfume and used to wear it very quickly because it’s hard to get in my country, reserving it for special moments. I’ve noticed the scent has transformed; now the opening is much more alcoholic. I bought it early this year, so I haven’t had it long. I think given its composition, it’s not worth keeping it around too long or you’ll lose all its magic.

  • Very curious and super comfortable. I’m already thinking about buying the big bottle. What’s funny is it makes me drool… could that be it?

  • Weird, it smells like Diptyque’s Duelle even though they don’t share any notes. I’ll have to investigate why they’re so similar. I liked it.
