  • It smells like a glamorous vintage perfume, just as its name suggests. The star is a violet beautifully supported by a powdery, rough, and astringent iris that acts like a veil, slightly masking the flower and its leaves. It’s not a cloying violet with sugar; it’s green, spiced, with a musky touch. An hour later, a subtle jasmine, vetiver, and a very light suede join in, lasting until the end. It’s not as intoxicating as its predecessor, Black Orchid; with slightly shorter longevity (around 6 hours) and a moderate trail, it still manages to be enveloping. It reminds me of a silent film star: wet-look waves, a tiara, fringe, beading, strap shoes, pearls, applying violet powder in the dressing room. It’s exquisite, elegant, and subtly opulent, conveying more than it says, like a great silent film actress.

I have no idea how I managed to snag this incredible perfume amidst so many absurd discontinuations. I agree with my previous review: Violet Blonde is an incredibly elegant iris, not violet. The initial spray transports me to the dressing room of a 1920s lady with fine brows, a fitted dress, and wet-look waves. It’s green violet, powdery, and barely sweet, drying down to be super woody like a lipstick. It’s a masterpiece—mature, delicate, sophisticated, and refined to the max. It has presence, trail, and medium longevity. It’s like the feminine version of Frederic Malle’s Iris Poudre. Totally unisex for me. I swear it evokes carnal beauty, and I’m lucky enough to have the 100ml bottle.

  • With all due respect, I’d advise against reviewing clones. Even if they smell the same at first, the longevity is different, and that makes all the difference. I’m not saying everyone should buy them, but at least smell or test the original on your skin before deciding.
