Finally tried it, and it has that classic transparency and quality of Roger & Gallet, with that traditional cologne touch that defines the whole house, even when they veer off into other paths without losing that familiar citrus base. Here, it doesn’t smell much of verbena, but rather a luminous myrtle mirage, with the right dose of green roughness and sweetness. Finding the gentian was a real struggle; it was exactly the note I bought it for blindly. Just as I was getting used to the citrus myrtle tone with little hope of finding it, I suddenly felt it—very low, camouflaged, but with its characteristic bitter, orange, and wrinkled aftertaste. The truth is, it’s a shame because it doesn’t last more than ten minutes. In the end, the residue is that of a luminous, citrusy French cologne, in the style of Mugler Cologne and similar ones. I usually prefer rougher, smokier colognes, more soap-like; this isn’t bad, but it’s sunny and warm, not very mossy, so I gave it to my mother, who is happier than a bell because it’s exactly the kind of perfume she loves.

I need to try it… finally a fragrance with gentian after the Guerlain (1999) and Hermès (2009) versions, that bitter and exquisite little wild flower that nobody remembers when creating a cologne. I like all the notes: gentian, rosemary, nutmeg, ginger, basil, bergamot, cedar, guaiac, and absinthe. Has anyone tried it yet?
