I was completely baffled by Tierra. It’s that kind of fragrance that forces you to stop and think about what you’re smelling and why. My nose doesn’t pick up woods or resins, but something else: a board of aged cheeses, black olives, very Manchego-style, and pickles. It smells like a traditional market, dampness, fermentation, and salt. It’s pure olfactory hyperrealism. I close my eyes and I’m there. It doesn’t smell bad; quite the opposite: it’s fascinating. As a sensory experience, it deserves a ten. That said, I wouldn’t wear it. I can’t see myself using this scent in daily life, no matter how admirable the creative exercise is. Tierra isn’t a perfume to wear; it’s to experience. And in that, Pernoire dares where few do. Sometimes the value isn’t in wearing a fragrance, but in living it.
