  • With This Is Love!, we have a perfume that strays little from the classic This Is Him! It tries to be different but doesn’t quite succeed; it has some flair but lacks enough intent. Here, there are more declared notes, vanilla and incense, the latter much more subdued; these are the backbone of the line and are very present. They tried to replace the grapefruit’s freshness with the floral freshness of neroli, but they didn’t manage a significant shift to make it a clear substitute for warm days. In fact, I’d say it remains a scent closer to cool climates than hot ones. The perfume starts fresh, yes, thanks to the bergamot that makes an appearance for just a few minutes, but shortly after it quits, leaving the fresh note position vacant, and no other note fills it. Right at this moment, a powdery, soft vanilla appears, along with the neroli, forming the heart of the scent—a aroma that isn’t sweet or gourmand but is dry, as is typical of the line. The thing is, This Is Love! is also linear, so at one point, the creamy sandalwood joins the composition, and from that moment on, it remains unchanged; this dry vanilla, sandalwood, and neroli aroma will be the one accompanying us for the duration of the perfume, which isn’t very long. Don’t expect apothegmatic performance; far from it, the performance is medium to low in both longevity and projection. It’s not a perfume that smells bad at all, absolutely not, but in my opinion, it’s a ‘want but can’t’ situation—a redundant interpretation that I can’t prefer over the original, even though the latter doesn’t have the performance of a few years ago, because the scent is too similar, their uses are practically identical, and both in aroma and performance, This Is Him! surpasses this This Is Love!… ‘This would have been love…’

  • Too bad I can’t read more reviews to compare… I tried it yesterday and it left me intrigued; it’s quite different from the mainstream. It’s not super complex, very little (or nothing) evolving, and it performs only moderately, but it felt like a curious enough scent to test again. It gave me the impression that it’s not for everyone with those floral tones and that final blend (I think with more power it would become cloying for many people), but it deserves a sniff.
