Sensual Instinct is a juicy rose with an extreme amount of oakmoss, and a supposed praline that I can’t detect at all. To me, it’s more sweet and ambered, and mixed with the coffee note, it feels very similar to Ristretto Intense Café. A faint memory of Baccarat Rouge 540, but it resembles Burberry For Her Intense much more. I didn’t like it. It felt artificial, sharp, boring, and vulgar. I won’t try another Montale.
I had such high expectations… I expected it to be sweet and sensual. But no, IT IS VERY MALE. At first, I smelled an old man’s cologne, like someone in their 60s. By the heart notes, it felt slightly more feminine; I caught the praline, but it wasn’t a pleasant feminine scent. It smelled more like a restaurant or a hotel air freshener. It’s another scent similar to Baccarat Rouge 540, like Mancera’s Instant Crush, Burberry Her Intense, or Ariana Grande’s Cloud. This type of smell is becoming so common now, whether in designer, budget, or niche perfumes… A huge disappointment. UPDATE: After a few hours, it gets sweeter, but it remains very masculine. Definitely not unisex for me, it’s male. My boyfriend smelled it on my skin and said: ‘It smells like a man and a clothing store.’ 😂😂
DELICIOUS! I really love this fragrance. Just as the name says, SENSUAL INSTINCT is sensual, mysterious, and sophisticated. I’d say it’s an inciting perfume, ideal for a first date. The coffee and cedar are prominent here; when it dries down, it leaves an exquisite praline, a sweet woody extract with a hint of floral, which makes it feminine. I’d recommend it for any age, not for daily use, but for those special moments where you want to leave a mark.
DELICIOUS! I really love it, just as the name SENSUAL INSTINCT suggests: it’s sensual, mysterious, and sophisticated. I’d say it’s an inviting perfume, perfect for a first date. The coffee and cedar are prominent, and when it dries down, it leaves an exquisite praline trail—a sweet woody extract with a hint, but only a hint, of floral notes that make it feminine. I’d recommend it for any age, not for daily use, but for those special moments when you want to leave a mark.
Even though most statistics say it’s more feminine, I find it more unisex. I think it’s because men’s fragrances have become sweeter lately. That’s probably why most Montales are unisex and appeal to a wider audience. As for the scent, it’s addictive. It’s sweet (but with a certain nuance that balances it), bright, and well-balanced. In my opinion, it smells VERY similar to Paco Rabanne’s One Million Lucky. It didn’t seem as long-lasting as, for example, Pure Love.
Overall, I’m absolutely in love with it, though on my skin it lasts about 5 hours. The opening is very sweet; I don’t detect roasted coffee, but rather a light coffee with honey that evolves into the sweetness of praline. The rose is subtle but present—it’s not your typical powder-room rose, but a fresh, freshly-cut garden rose. The projection is good within a meter, which I like because it’s not invasive, yet when someone gets close, you can really smell that delicious sweetness. In the dry-down, it becomes discreet, skin-close, mossy, and ambered. It feels predominantly feminine due to the sweetness, but usable by a man who enjoys something honeyed in the opening. Rating: 8/10. Sillage: 7/10. Longevity: 5-6 hours.
Overall, I’m in love with this perfume, although on my skin it doesn’t last more than 5 hours. The opening is very sweet; I don’t detect roasted coffee notes, it reminds me more of a light coffee with a touch of honey that evolves into the sweet praline. The rose note is subtle but present; it’s not the typical bouquet water rose, but a fresh, freshly cut garden rose. It projects well within a distance of less than a meter, which I like because it’s not invasive, yet when people get close, you notice the delicious sweetness. In its dry down, it becomes very discreet, felt more next to the skin, mossy and ambered. I think it’s predominantly feminine due to the accentuated sweetness, but perfectly usable for a gentleman who enjoys something honeyed in their opening. Overall rating: 8/10 Sillage: 7/10 Longevity: 5-6 hours.
I agree with the reviews, but on my skin it leans quite masculine. It has a well-marked liquor note; I’m not sure if it’s the praline, but it smells like exquisite alcohol. The cedar, amber, and oak moss give it that masculine base that, in my opinion, makes it less feminine. As for projection and longevity, I have zero complaints—it lives up to the brand and lasts easily 8-10 hours on my skin.
I agree more with the notes than the ratings: on my skin, it’s very masculine, with a very marked liquor note (maybe the praline) and exquisite alcohol. The cedar, amber, and oak moss give it that masculine base that keeps it away from the feminine side. No complaints about projection and longevity; it delivers on the brand’s promise and easily lasts 8-10 hours.
On my skin, Sensual Instinct starts with a roasted coffee note that slowly gets sweetened by a rich chocolate praline (not cloying like Good Girl, as I thought when I read the notes). To accompany it, there’s an ambered moss note that finishes by making this scent more sophisticated than it already is. While all these notes blend and alternate, a rose begins to appear more and more boldly, fresh as if just cut from a garden. This is my first unisex perfume, and I was pleasantly surprised. However, I recommend trying it before buying. Edit 1: It’s been over an hour since my first application. I love its chocolate praline dry down <3 Edit 2: A day has passed; I still smell it right next to my skin and sometimes in the air. What an impressive longevity! Edit 3: The praline scent is like when you break a bonbon in half and smell it <3
On my skin, Sensual Instinct opens with roasted coffee that gradually softens into a brutal praline chocolate (nothing cloying like I imagined Good Girl to be). Paired with moss and honeyed amber, the whole composition becomes even more sophisticated. As the notes blend, a rose emerges more boldly, fresh as if just cut from a garden. It’s my first unisex and it’s hit me super hard. Heads up: I recommend testing it before buying. Edit 1: After an hour, I’m obsessed with that praline-chocolate drydown <3. Edit 2: A day later and I still smell it clinging to my skin and occasionally in the air. What a beast for longevity. Edit 3: The praline smells like when you split a bonbon in half and sniff it <3
In the opening, on my skin, it smells very much like Angel by Tom Ford and then Cloud by Ariana Grande. It gives me a lot of energy, lasts 5 hours, and then stays close to the skin; if needed, I reapply. I love it; it puts me in a good mood.
⚠️ Sensual Instinct isn’t for every woman. If you are strong, sensual, sexual, mysterious, with an old-money style, it’s perfect for you. It’s a bath of macerated roses soaked in addictive sweet coffee. The praline lingers for hours combined with a burning aroma of woods and moss that dirties the fragrance. This scent will envelop your entire environment; men and women will want to be around you to get lost in this ambitious, luxurious, and powerful perfume. Sillage: wide and overwhelming. Longevity: over 12 hours, a powerful burst. Scent: Spectacular.
⚠️ Sensual Instinct isn’t for everyone. If you’re a strong, sensual, sexual, mysterious woman with that old-money vibe, this is your perfume. It’s like a bath of macerated roses soaked in addictive sweet coffee. The praline lingers on the skin for hours, blended with burning woods and moss that give it character. It envelops everything; men and women alike will love being close enough to savor it. It’s ambitious, luxurious, and powerful. The trail is wide and dominating, lasting over 12 hours with a potent burst. Spectacular aroma.
I’ll just say that out of 14 testers I received today, this was the one that caught my attention the most. It seems like one of those that sticks to the skin and blends with your personal scent, a true marvel. It might be my lack of experience, but I haven’t heard anything like it in my life. A truly original perfume.
It’s my first Montale; I bought it blind and loved it so much. It’s unisex, and I agree with those who say it evolves based on your skin chemistry. Freshly applied, it’s a delight. As hours pass, the praline, rose, oakmoss, and cedar become more noticeable. In the end, the moss and amber dominate; I never really smell the coffee. But it’s a delight; I recommend it 100%.
I don’t understand why people compare it to Baccarat Rouge; in my opinion, they don’t resemble each other. It’s a very original scent. I admit I was afraid of the rose; it’s not one of my favorites, but here it’s very integrated and blends perfectly. The dry down on my skin is sweet with a liquorish touch, charming. It’s unisex, leaning towards no specific gender. I recommend trying it before buying; it’s intense and might not be for everyone.
Sensual Instinct is a true beauty from Montale. It opens with exquisite coffee and evolves into a sweet, mossy, amber heart that’s addictive. I’m struck by how people compare it to other fragrances; I see it as original and bold. It definitely meets Montale’s standards: over 12 hours on skin and a delightful projection of more than 4 hours. It’s totally unisex and I recommend it. If you’re looking for something unique and enveloping, it won’t disappoint.
For those who can recommend it based on the Baccarat Rouge 540 DNA, this Sensual Instinct is one of the best. For me, it’s the amber BR base (without the medicinal touch) with a pleasant sweetness, mixed with Montale’s Intense Café and a subtler rose. The result is excellent, very well blended; it highlights the praline and coffee, a silky rose, and that elegance and seduction in the name. The balance is perfect, very unisex, though only in cold climates. Ideal for a date, though some might think they’ve heard it before. Rating: 8.5/10 (Discovery Set).
It’s another cheap, poorly executed version of Baccarat Rouge, with a clear Montale style. I don’t dislike it, but I barely use it because it’s strong and tiring. It’s sensual, but not the kind I like to project; sometimes it smells a bit dirty and desperate for attention. I definitely wouldn’t buy it again.
I tested it in-store: the opening was very strong, almost medicinal. On my skin, it became pleasant after 10-15 minutes. It shares that DNA with Baccarat and Instant Crush due to its warm, spicy character. The dry down is very noticeable. I’m not adding it to my collection; it doesn’t feel special to me, but if you like it, it’s versatile. Lasts quite a while.
Hey, it doesn’t smell like Baccarat. I tried it again after years and now I love it even more than before. I’m not a rose person; I hate that note in almost all Montale and Mancera scents, but here the rose is sweetened by praline and mixed with a subtle moss. Incredible, I loved it. Powerful and sensual, just like the name suggests.
