Descripción

Prelude to Love by Kilian is a fruity floral fragrance for men and women. Launched in 2008, this composition was created by perfumer Calice Becker. Upon opening, bergamot, Amalfi lemon, orange, and bitter orange deliver a vibrant citrus top note. The heart reveals neroli, orange blossom, lavender, freesia, cardamom, pink pepper, and rose, building a floral and spicy structure. Finally, the base settles with iris, musk, Russian leather, and cyperus, providing a woody, animalic, and exotic foundation.

  • Prelude to Love: Invitation is exactly what its name suggests: an invitation into the Kilian Hennessy universe. It’s like finally opening a book you’ve been dying to read; it brings back that childlike wonder of discovering something new. I’ve had similar experiences with Penhaligon’s, L’Artisan Parfumer, and Serge Lutens, but those felt interesting without ever really hooking me. With Kilian, it’s different: it’s a fascinating world where the more I smell it, the more I learn. That’s why I adore it. Yes, the prices are brutal, but the pure ingredients and noses like Calice Becker’s justify every penny. Each fragrance is an image or a feeling, and together they form a story of emotions, a life book. The first chapter, L’Ouvre Noir, is a romantic attempt. As Ramón Gener says, if you’re a young, romantic woman who enjoys tranquility, this is for you. It starts with soft citrus: bergamot, orange blossom, and neroli, all very tender. Then the neroli gives way to iris, majestic and elegant, lasting until the very end. You can be beautiful without artifice, and this iris lady proves it. Everything is tender and pleasant. For me, it evokes a clean, fresh, well-tended field, perfect for taking a deep breath. It’s a place of wellness and softness, or that first thought when you realize you have deep feelings for someone more than just a friend. It’s one of my favorite perfumes. I invite anyone who hasn’t tried it to give it a go.

  • Prelude to Love: Invitation is exactly what its name says: an invitation into the Kilian Hennessy universe. It’s like opening a new book you’ve been eager to read; that childlike illusion of discovering something just by knowing it exists. I’d already felt that sensation with Penhaligon’s, L’Artisan Parfumer, and Serge Lutens, but those reads, while interesting, didn’t captivate me. With Kilian, however, I found a passionate world where the more I smell it, the more I learn. Sure, the prices are astronomical, but the pure ingredients and top-tier noses like Calice Becker’s justify them. Every fragrance is an image, a feeling, and together they form a life story. It’s no coincidence that the first chapter is called L’Ouvre Noir, a romantic attempt. As Ramón Gener would say: if you’re a woman with a young spirit, romantic, and who enjoys peace, this is your perfume. It begins with soft citrus: bergamot, orange blossom, and neroli, so tenderly. Then the neroli yields to iris, majestic and elegantly simple, holding on until the end. You can be the most beautiful without artifice, and this iris lady demonstrates it. Everything is tender and pleasant; for me, it evokes a clean, fresh field that invites a deep breath. It’s a place of wellness and softness, or that first thought when we realize we hold deep feelings for someone more than a friend. It’s one of my favorites. I invite anyone who hasn’t tried it to do so.

  • Thanks for the Woodrose review. I have a sample of this perfume; I bought it along with Frederic Malle’s ‘Iris Poudre,’ but I haven’t had time to try it yet and had forgotten about it. I’ve read that it’s classified among the best iris perfumes. Since I love iris, I’ll give it a calm try and add something to your great review.

  • I confess I’m a fan of white florals. Their richness and luminous sparkles always hypnotize me and transport me back to my childhood: my mother, a typical Mediterranean lady, after the bath ritual filled with mimosa and laughter, would put on a classic Spanish eau de toilette, all natural. Citrus opening with bitter orange, orange blossom, rosemary, and lavender; heart of neroli and dry down of Atlas cedar with oakmoss. A portrait etched in olfactory memory like a maternal imprint. Calice Becker recreates those Mediterranean classics with a creative twist under a modern perspective. The opening is citrusy and fleeting, with orange blossom on top and spices that boldly contrast; pink pepper hits my skin immediately, spicy with the orange blossom. When the spices soften, the best part arrives: the neroli. Those fresh, cheerful floral nuances highlight the beginning like a rainbow appearing and reappearing. The neroli evolves into the dry down accompanied by an iris with violet nuances that radiates calm like a summer breeze, prolonging its notes until the end. I was surprised and delighted because it seemed they would never fit, but these antagonistic flowers combine brilliantly. Musk and soft suede finish the dry down convincingly. For a white floral, the longevity and sillage are above average. The quality is excellent. By Kilian is expensive but delivers great work. Prelude to Love transports me to that stage of my childhood and manages to recall that intimate process I keep as a treasure. Excellent work. Rating: 9.3

  • I’m a fan of white florals, and this one transports me back to my childhood with my mother, those baths and laughter at home. Calice Becker recreates that classic Mediterranean style with a modern twist. It starts citrusy and fleeting with orange blossom and a spicy hint of pink pepper, then releases neroli, fresh and cheerful. At the end, the iris with violet nuances brings peace, alongside musk and suede that close it off perfectly. The longevity and quality are top-notch. Worth the By Kilian price. I love how it mixes flowers that seem incompatible. Note: 9.3.

It’s a summer explosion of citrus: lemon, bergamot, and orange. Sounds great at first, but it doesn’t last long, only about 4 or 5 hours. Then the iris appears, soft and without changing the light atmosphere. It’s perfect for the office, like a prelude to uncomplicated love.
