It would be like the ODP of Nina Ricci Rouge, but sweeter, more intense, and with more sillage; they’re heading down the same path.
I bought it blind because I was recommended La Folie Rosé, and since this was cheap, I grabbed it. What does it remind me of? To my nose, it’s very similar to the red apple in Nina Ricci and Nina Rouge… I also bought those blind before. How do they differ? This one loses the freshness of Nina; it’s very sweet, whereas the other is more wearable. I’d define it in three notes: at first, I smell sweet red apple, then fresh new roses with a hint of caramel. In the drydown, there are roses, apples, and red fruits like strawberries, all very sweet. It’s a sweet red scent, nothing citrusy. It’s not unbearable, but it’s definitely more of a winter fragrance. It’s nothing groundbreaking, not a difficult perfume, and I don’t detect strong woody notes or anything anyone who likes strawberry scents wouldn’t wear. Longevity? I’m not sure yet; I’ll come back to edit once I use it more.
The red bottle is gorgeous, like a sophisticated diamond. It’s not just the packaging that’s divine, but the scent too. Experts compare it to the famous Baccarat Rouge 540; it’s not a copy, but Mauboussin is a warm, cozy fragrance that invites passion. On my skin, I detect juicy apple with peach, peony, and rose. The drydown is very woody, and luckily, I don’t get that cloying praline sweetness. I don’t like sweet, sugary perfumes, and this isn’t one. Longevity and projection are excellent. I wear it in winter, but I’d also use it in spring, summer, or fall. Edit today, July 6, 2024: I now own Baccarat Rouge 540 and can confirm it does resemble it, especially in the drydown.
Red apple with a hint of Ambroxan. If you love Baccarat Rouge 540, you’ll definitely like this one. It has great projection and longevity, plus it’s way cheaper than the original.
