I gave it a second chance and I have to admit, I liked it more this time. While I still prefer L’Occitane’s ‘Eau de Vétiver’, I tried this one on skin and blotter today. The longevity is moderate, but as Drakecito mentioned, the sillage is poor; after all, it’s a Cologne, meant to perfume the body after a shower, though nowadays we use it for convenience if there’s no EDT available. It’s a great option for vetiver lovers: cheerful, spicy, and light. With moderate longevity and low projection, just remember it’s a Cologne.

My first impression wasn’t great, but I plan to give it another shot. Compared to the L’Occitane counterpart, ‘Eau de Vétiver’, it feels a bit duller. At first, it seemed bland and unremarkable, but I’ll give it a second chance today if I can make it back to the nearest store or branch. The longevity seemed very poor, although the sales associate applied a generous amount to my wrist. The sillage, keeping in mind it’s a Cologne (the box just says ‘Les Colognes’), shouldn’t be big, and indeed, it isn’t.

If @Shiseido, it’s an ‘Eau de Cologne’ both in name and concentration. I’ve tried the L’Occitane version, and they follow the same line, but the Goutal one smells more natural and realistic (though it is pricier, of course). The performance is similar, but keep in mind that the L’Occitane one was reformulated and probably diluted; it used to be called just ‘Vétiver’. The issue with this Goutal is that, while it lasts quite a while (over 6 hours), the trail is very poor and you have to get close to smell it; plus, the scent fades quickly and it’s quite common. Only for vetiver lovers who prefer the freshest version for summer use.

A very refined vetiver by A. Goutal. The opening is very citrusy and sparkling, quickly blending with the vetiver and a salty note that gives it a marine effect. You can also detect a very soft floral note that rounds out the fragrance. It’s much fresher than the discontinued EDT version (which was darker) and more recommended for summer, though I sometimes wear it in winter. The vetiver note is frankly well-crafted, very natural, and of tremendous quality; one of the best on the current market without resorting to vintage formulas. Longevity is very good, especially for a Cologne (over 5 hours), and the trail is skin-hugging. An option fresh vetiver lovers shouldn’t miss. Recommended!
